YouTube does not provide a universal “loop this file” switch in Live Control Room: set up and test repeat playback in the encoder or service you choose. Before broadcasting, enable live streaming, test the stream privately or unlisted, and confirm you have permission for every part of the recording.
Before you start: enable YouTube Live and clear the recording
Check channel eligibility early
Your channel must be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the class is due to air. YouTube’s encoder guide says, “Encoders let you stream gameplay, overlays, and use hardware like preamps, mics, and cameras.” See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Get permission for the whole recording
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may interrupt or terminate a stream when it identifies such material; even licensed material may require the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID. The archived video can also receive a Content ID claim. Check rights for the class recording and for music, slides, clips, images, guest contributions, and any learner information visible or audible in it. YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance explains its matching process.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services and to comply with applicable law. In India, the Copyright Office describes “communication to the public” broadly as making a work available for public enjoyment by display or diffusion. The Copyright Act’s definition of a lecture includes “address, speech and sermon.” The Office’s explanation of Section 52 describes particular exceptions for certain educational-institution activities involving limited audiences, such as specified staff, students, parents or guardians, and people connected with the institution. Educational status alone does not automatically permit an unrestricted public YouTube broadcast; whether a license or exception applies depends on the circumstances and included works. Consult the Copyright Office of India and obtain legal advice where needed.

Choose how to play and loop the class
| Route | Best suited to | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder such as OBS | Creators who want to control playback and streaming from their own computer. | That the selected encoder version plays the intended file and repeats it as required; the computer and connection must remain available for the broadcast. |
| Managed cloud streaming | Creators who want a service to run prerecorded playback without keeping a streaming computer on locally. | Current loop behavior, scheduling, recovery, availability in India, and price for the chosen service. These vary by provider and are not established by YouTube’s encoder guide. |
YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre and describes it as “A cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of pre-recorded videos on YouTube.” That is YouTube’s description, not an independent performance test; check Gyre’s current features, availability, and cost before choosing it. The repeat behavior belongs to the encoder or service configuration—not a universal YouTube Live toggle.
How to stream the recording with OBS
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, complete any verification or activation steps for live streaming. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast using the encoder workflow. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Protect the stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service if available, and enter the key. If OBS asks for a server URL, use the one supplied by Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password; regenerate it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Add the recording as a source. In OBS, add the video file as a media source and select the class recording. Configure the source’s playback or repeat behavior in the OBS version you are using. Test that it restarts when it reaches the end; do not assume YouTube will loop it. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover ingestion setup, not a universal local-file loop control.
- Set output quality and test the connection. Choose a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, RTMPS, and upload capacity with 20% headroom above the outgoing bitrate. Its encoder settings guidance lists technical recommendations; select settings appropriate to your resolution and available upload bandwidth.
- Run a private or unlisted rehearsal. Use a test stream to check the opening, a representative section with typical motion and sound, the file’s end and restart, and whether audio stays in sync. Confirm the Live Control Room preview appears and the stream can be viewed from the intended watch page and on a phone.
- Preflight the scheduled broadcast. YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before. Check the Live Control Room preview, audio and picture, connection stability, and—if you are recording locally—that the archive file is growing.
- Start and end cleanly. Start streaming in OBS and wait for the preview. For a scheduled encoder stream, click Go live in Live Control Room when ready. At the end, end the YouTube event and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; review the archive afterward.
Keep the broadcast reliable
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube’s recommendation is 20% upload-bandwidth headroom over the selected outgoing bitrate. Check upload capacity at the location and time you plan to stream; download speed alone does not establish that the connection is suitable.
- Use a stable connection. Prefer a reliable wired connection if practical. An optional ethernet cable can help avoid some Wi-Fi variability when your computer or adapter and router support it, but it cannot increase insufficient ISP upload capacity or eliminate every source of instability.
- Test the actual recording. A static title card does not reveal issues that appear during speech, motion, music, or a scene change. Check representative picture and audio before the public broadcast.
- Monitor while live. Keep Live Control Room open to watch the stream status and preview. Check that the encoder is still sending and that the program’s audio and video remain intact.
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| No preview in Live Control Room | The encoder has not connected, or its server URL or stream key is wrong. | Confirm the scheduled stream is the one whose URL and key you entered, check the encoder’s connection status, and replace the key if it was exposed. |
| Playback stops at the end of the class | Repeat behavior is not enabled or is not working in the selected encoder or service. | Test the complete file through its end and restart before going public; consult the current version’s playback settings. |
| Video stutters or disconnects | Upload capacity, connection stability, or encoder settings may be inadequate. | Check actual upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, reduce the outgoing bitrate if needed, and rehearse on the same network. |
| Viewers cannot hear the class or audio is out of sync | The source or encoder audio path may be misconfigured. | Check source audio levels and sync in OBS, then verify speech and other representative audio in a private or unlisted test. |
| YouTube interrupts the broadcast or the archive receives a claim | Content ID may have matched third-party material. | Review the claim and rights for the matched material. Obtain necessary permission and, where applicable, ask the rights holder about allowlisting the channel; do not assume that educational use or a license automatically prevents interruption. |
Or let it run in the cloud
