Add the subject graphic as a source in the scene that creates your stream: use text or an image for a fixed course or lesson label, and a browser source only when the information needs to update from a web page or feed. Place it where it does not cover teaching material, then test both the live output and the saved recording. An overlay labels the program; it does not, by itself, keep playback running or ensure recordings are saved unattended.
Choose what the overlay says and how it will change
Start by identifying the information viewers need to orient themselves: for example, the subject, course, lesson title, or instructor. Keep the label focused on that purpose rather than adding details that compete with the lesson.
Then decide whether the label is static or changes during the broadcast. A prepared image or text source suits a fixed label. If the lesson changes, you can switch between labeled sources or scenes manually. A browser source may suit information that needs to update from a web page or data feed, but test its refresh behavior; a ready-made curriculum schedule integration is not established here.
Before configuring anything, identify where the program is composed. It may be OBS, Vimeo’s browser production studio, Livestream Studio, or another system. Source controls and what persists between events differ by platform, so use the instructions for the software and version actually in use.

Add and position the graphic in OBS
OBS scenes assemble the program layout from sources, including text and images, as described in the OBS Studio Overview Guide. The following is a practical workflow; exact interface labels can vary by installed version.
- Open the program scene. In OBS, select the scene used for the outgoing program. If you use several scenes, confirm you are editing the one that will actually be streamed.
- Add the appropriate source. Add a text source for an editable label or an image source for a prepared graphic. Use a browser source only if your workflow has a suitable web page or data feed to display. Set the subject, course, lesson, or instructor information in that source.
- Place and size it in the composition. Position the graphic consistently in an area that does not obscure slides, demonstrations, captions, or other instructional content. Check it in the program composition at the intended output resolution. There is no education-specific safe margin or size established here, so do not treat an arbitrary pixel margin as a standard.
- Check appearance over the lesson. Preview representative light and dark material. Confirm that the label stays legible and does not conceal important content.
- Test the outgoing program and recording. Verify the subject label in the actual stream output and in a saved recording. If your OBS output needs separate streaming and recording configuration, the overview guide notes that advanced output mode can configure them independently; confirm each output’s settings and behavior in your installed version.
Change the subject label safely
For occasional changes, prepare clearly named text or image sources, or separate scenes for each subject, and have an operator select the correct one. Check the label at each transition so the on-screen subject matches the lesson viewers are watching.

For schedule- or data-driven changes, use a dynamic source only after confirming when and how it refreshes. Test a real transition, including what viewers see if the source is delayed or unavailable. Do not assume that a source which updates in a preview will refresh identically in the live output.
Account for platform and restart behavior
OBS
OBS is a scene-and-source workflow: the overlay is part of the composed program. Test the scene and the actual restart procedure for your setup rather than assuming the overlay will be active after an unattended restart.

Vimeo production tools
Vimeo’s in-browser production studio supports lower-third graphics. For recurring virtual events, Vimeo says graphics are retained but do not display automatically on every stream; an operator still needs to show or hide them during the scene. Confirm the behavior in your own event workflow.
Livestream Studio
Livestream Studio’s help describes three graphics overlay channels and options to add a prebuilt template or create a custom graphic or layer. Use its current controls to select and display the intended subject graphic.

Third-party OBS playout plugin
The 24/7 Playout Plugin for OBS repository describes playlist and rundown playback, loop mode, autostart or resume, and transparent browser overlays. Its page identifies a Windows x64 release and recommends OBS Studio 32.x or a compatible version. It is third-party software, not a required overlay component or a guarantee of institutional uptime or security. Before installing it, verify the current release, compatibility with your setup, security, and operational suitability.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test continuous playback and recording as separate requirements
A correctly placed overlay does not establish that the video will keep playing, that the stream will restart after an interruption, or that a recording will be retained. Treat each as a separate part of the deployment.

- Preview a representative lesson and confirm the correct label is visible and readable.
- Test the process for changing the subject, including the actual operator steps or dynamic-source refresh.
- Verify the live stream output and saved recording independently, including where the recording is stored and how it is retained.
- Test the real restart and recovery procedure before leaving the setup unattended, including what happens to the label and playback after restart.
- Check the arrangement against your organization’s accessibility, IT security, staffing, and continuity requirements. The available platform descriptions do not establish a complete 24/7 education-stream architecture or service-level uptime.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The overlay is missing from the live program. | The source may be in a different scene, hidden, or not activated for the current output. | Confirm the program scene and source visibility, then inspect the outgoing stream rather than relying only on an editor view. |
| The wrong subject remains on screen. | A manual change was missed or a dynamic source did not refresh as expected. | Check the selected source or scene and test the update timing using a real subject transition. |
| The graphic covers teaching material or is hard to read. | Its position, size, or contrast does not work with the lesson content. | Preview it over representative slides and demonstrations at the intended output resolution, then reposition or revise it. |
| A recurring event starts without its lower third. | Saved graphics may not automatically be displayed on the next event. | For Vimeo recurring virtual events, explicitly show or hide the retained graphic during the scene; verify restart behavior on other platforms separately. |
| The stream continues but no usable recording is saved, or vice versa. | Streaming and recording are separate outputs and may have different settings or failure points. | Test both outputs and their storage or retention path independently; do not infer one is working from the other. |
| Playback or the stream fails after a restart. | Overlay configuration alone does not provide playout or recovery. | Exercise the setup’s actual restart and recovery procedure and confirm what resumes before relying on unattended operation. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the recorded lessons are being streamed to YouTube, StreamNeo is a cloud option for continuous playout: upload the videos, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. The subject graphic still needs to be part of the video or production workflow you prepare.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; playback runs from the cloud.
- Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, once per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for the service details, then start your free day.
