For a stereo YouTube Live stream, set OBS audio bitrate to 128 Kbps, choose AAC, and set the audio sample rate to 44.1 kHz. These match YouTube’s published stereo live-encoder recommendations; they are not special settings for Indian classical music or for a 24/7 schedule.
Set OBS audio for stereo YouTube Live
- In OBS, open Settings → Output and find the streaming audio bitrate control. Set it to 128 Kbps. OBS labels and available controls can vary by version and output mode.
- Confirm the stream’s audio output is stereo and the selected streaming audio encoder is AAC. YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs for RTMP/RTMPS ingest; OBS describes AAC as its default, broadly supported format. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and OBS’s formats guide.
- Open OBS audio settings and set the sample rate to 44.1 kHz for stereo. YouTube’s published recommendation is 44.1 kHz for stereo audio.
- Apply the settings, then test with representative music before starting the continuous broadcast. Confirm the stream is reaching YouTube and monitor stream health and messages.
The recommended bitrate is for the audio sent to YouTube; it does not mean that increasing it above YouTube’s published stereo target will automatically improve what viewers hear. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple viewer formats, so the settings describe the encoder feed, not a promise that every viewer receives the original audio encoding.
Why the genre and 24/7 schedule do not change the recommendation
YouTube’s official encoder guidance gives a stereo audio bitrate recommendation without a separate value for Indian classical music or for a stream running all day. The 128 Kbps setting is therefore a platform recommendation, not a genre-specific result from listening tests.
A long-running broadcast makes reliability checks important, but duration alone does not establish a different audio bitrate. YouTube advises selecting a stream quality the internet connection can sustain, testing representative material before going live, and monitoring stream health while it runs. A stable feed matters more than choosing an audio bitrate above the published target.

Check the full audio and delivery path
- Codec: Use AAC for a straightforward compatibility choice in OBS. YouTube also lists MP3 as supported for RTMP/RTMPS audio.
- Sample rate: Use 44.1 kHz for stereo, matching YouTube’s advanced stereo recommendation.
- Ingest protocol: YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data into and through Google’s servers. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
- Connection capacity: Choose an overall stream quality your upload connection can sustain reliably, and test the actual music and stream setup before relying on it continuously.

Troubleshoot common audio-setting problems
- YouTube reports an audio codec or stream-health issue: Check that the streaming encoder is set to AAC, confirm the configured audio output matches the stream, and review the current stream-health message rather than assuming every API warning applies.
- The stream is mono or the channel layout is unexpected: Verify the OBS output is stereo before using the stereo bitrate and sample-rate recommendations.
- The feed drops or becomes unstable during a long run: Test using the real content and monitor YouTube stream health. Reduce overall stream demands if the upload connection cannot reliably sustain the selected quality; a higher audio bitrate is not a fix for an unreliable connection.
- Your OBS controls do not match these labels: Output options depend on OBS version and output mode. Locate the streaming audio bitrate and encoder settings in Output, and check the installed version’s current documentation if the controls differ.
