Wirecast can play selected video clips in sequence on YouTube Live using a playlist shot. Its documented workflow is to build that playlist by adding or dragging in individual clips or shots; the available documentation does not confirm that Wirecast can automatically turn an entire folder into an ordered playlist or keep the playlist updated as files are added.
What Wirecast’s playlist can—and cannot—do
A folder is a place where files are stored; a Wirecast playlist shot is a sequence of clips or shots you select. Telestream’s Wirecast 15 Windows User Guide documents creating and broadcasting a shot containing multiple preselected clips. It does not document an “add folder” command that automatically enumerates every file, nor does the material establish that new files placed in a folder will be appended to a playlist.
So, for a predictable sequence, add the files you want as clips or shots and arrange them in a playlist. If you specifically need automatic folder discovery or continuous monitoring, do not assume that behavior from the documented playlist workflow; check the controls in your installed version before relying on it.
Build a playlist shot from your video clips
The following labels and steps are from the Wirecast 15 Windows guide. Wirecast’s current version history lists version 16.5.3, dated June 10, 2026, and notes playlist and media-playback changes. The precise labels and behavior may differ by version or operating system, so check the equivalent controls in your installation, particularly on macOS. The version history’s note about improved watching of network shares for media-file updates does not itself confirm automatic folder-to-playlist sequencing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Create the playlist shot. In a layer, click the plus sign (+), choose Shots, select New Playlist Shot, then click Add.
- Add the clips or shots you want. Drag them onto the playlist shot. Alternatively, double-click the playlist shot to open its Playlist tab, choose Shots > New Shot, and select the desired clips.
- Set the order and playback behavior. Arrange the playlist items in the intended sequence. Leave shuffle off for a fixed order. Choose what should happen at the end: Loop to repeat from the first shot, or Hold to stop on the last shot.
- Put the playlist on air. With AutoLive off, select the playlist and click Go. With AutoLive on, clicking a shot sends it to the Live Broadcast Area. Wirecast lists YouTube as a streaming destination; configure YouTube as the destination in Wirecast before starting the broadcast. Telestream’s Wirecast product page describes prerecorded-video and YouTube streaming capabilities.
Choose Loop, Hold, or manual control
- Loop: When playback reaches the end, the playlist returns to its first shot and repeats.
- Hold: Playback stays on the final shot. If the last item is a video and you want its final frame to remain visible, set that clip’s own When Finished behavior to Hold as well as setting the playlist to Hold.
- Shuffle: Changes the playlist order. Keep it off if the sequence needs to stay predictable.
- Next and Previous: Use these controls to move between playlist items manually while the playlist is live.
The guide cautions against deleting shots from a playlist while it is running, and says nested playlists are unsupported.
Fixed playlist versus automatic folder updates
| Workflow | What it supports | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed playlist | The guide documents adding selected clips or shots to a playlist shot and arranging them. | Use this when you want a defined sequence. Add or edit playlist items yourself. |
| Folder-driven updates | The reviewed Wirecast guide and version history do not confirm automatic folder enumeration or automatic addition of new files to an ordered playlist. | Do not count on new files appearing automatically. Verify the behavior in your installed version if folder monitoring is essential. |
Troubleshoot a sequence that does not behave as expected
- A file is missing from the sequence: Confirm that you added the clip or shot to the playlist; selecting a folder is not the documented playlist-building step.
- The order changes: Check whether Shuffle is enabled and turn it off for a fixed sequence.
- The playlist stops at the end: Set the playlist’s end behavior to Loop if you want it to restart. For a final video frame that should remain visible under Hold, set the clip’s When Finished behavior to Hold too.
- You cannot change items while playback is running: The guide advises against deleting shots from a running playlist. Make playlist edits before taking it live.
- You expect a nested playlist to run: Nested playlists are unsupported according to the Wirecast 15 guide; add the individual clips or shots to the playlist instead.
- You need new folder files to appear automatically: Automatic folder-to-playlist updates are not established by the cited documentation. Add the files explicitly or verify the feature in your installed version before designing an unattended workflow around it.
Keep the YouTube broadcast running without a computer at home
If your goal is not just to sequence clips in Wirecast but to keep prerecorded video live around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option for YouTube: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is not a Wirecast folder-import feature and does not stream from a camera.
