First identify where the picture stops: OBS preview, a local recording, YouTube’s Live Control Room, or only a viewer’s player. If OBS preview and a local recording freeze at the same transition, investigate the playlist source and media. If they stay healthy but YouTube does not, investigate stream health and the outbound connection. The Telugu language itself is not established as a cause.
Locate the freeze before changing settings
Run a short test that is not public, or make a local recording, and watch the exact moment one playlist video changes to the next. Note whether audio continues, whether OBS reports dropped frames, and whether YouTube displays a timestamped health message. This separates a source or encoding problem from a delivery problem.

This is a diagnostic framework, not a confirmed diagnosis for your setup. YouTube distinguishes encoder output from delivery issues, while OBS’s dropped-frame guidance concerns the connection to the remote ingest server. Check the playlist source and its media
Confirm which OBS source is playing the playlist
OBS’s Media Source is for a single media file. The separate VLC Video source can hold multiple playlist items and uses VLC libraries. VLC must be installed for that source to appear; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. VLC Video also has playlist loop and shuffle controls, visibility behavior, and network caching settings. Changing caching is something to test when relevant, not a proven fix for a freeze at a transition.

Determine whether the playlist entries are local files or online URLs. A local playlist focuses diagnosis on files, decoding compatibility, and source configuration. Online entries also introduce URL fetching and network interruptions. The symptom alone does not establish which applies.
Use a minimal local-file test
- Create a new scene and add a VLC Video source containing two short, known-good local video files. Do not use the original playlist for this comparison.
- Make a local recording and observe the transition in OBS and in the saved file.
- If the test works, add the original playlist entries one at a time to identify whether a particular file or URL triggers the freeze.
- If the minimal test also fails, record the OBS version, VLC version and architecture, source settings, filters, and an OBS log from a reproduction before making more changes.
This controlled comparison helps narrow the cause; it does not imply that the test has been run on your machine.

Check version-specific playlist and filter cases
If you use the Media Playlist Source plugin
Record the plugin and OBS versions. The plugin’s update notes describe fixes for playlists not continuing after a transition and for a repeated or same-path case. They state that the 0.1.0 line requires OBS 31 and that the relevant upstream change was merged since OBS 31. Compare your versions with the plugin update notes; this version history is a reason to check compatibility, not proof that it explains every freeze.
If the source has Video Delay (Async)
In a safe test, reproduce the transition without that filter. An OBS issue marked confirmed describes a crash when changing tracks with Video Delay (Async) in OBS 27.2.3. It is a historical, version-specific clue, not a general diagnosis. See the OBS issue report.

If only YouTube playback freezes
Read YouTube’s stream health messages
When OBS preview and a local recording remain healthy, check YouTube Live Control Room’s health indicator and timestamped messages around the freeze. YouTube identifies possible ingest problems involving codec or container, bitrate, video settings, and keyframe frequency. Follow the current recommendations in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guide for your resolution and encoder rather than copying a generic bitrate from an unrelated setup. Test before going live with similar movement and audio, then monitor stream health during the event.
Use OBS connection indicators to test the network branch
If OBS’s dropped-frame counter rises or its connection indicator shows trouble at the same time, check whether the configured bitrate exceeds what your upload connection can sustain steadily. OBS recommends investigating Wi-Fi instability and VPN, security, or network software, and trying a wired connection as a stability check. Where available, test another ingest server. Dynamic bitrate can mask symptoms but does not resolve the underlying connection problem. These steps are relevant when connection evidence points to the network—not when the source itself freezes in OBS while connection indicators remain normal. Compare encoder output with delivery
If the encoder output looks and sounds healthy but the outbound stream does not, YouTube advises testing the outbound connection. If the encoder output itself is poor, inspect the media, audio, and video sources and encoder load, or compare with another encoder. A 2020 OBS forum post describes a VLC source freezing while playing a YouTube playlist, but it is one user report and does not establish a current, general cause or fix: the forum discussion.
