To play recorded videos one after another in OBS without a scene transition, put them in order in a single VLC Video source. The playlist advances between files inside that source; it does not switch scenes. For an immediate cut when changing scenes, choose Cut in OBS’s Scene Transitions controls.
Use a VLC Video playlist for recordings in the same scene
This is the simplest setup when each recording uses the same layout and overlays. OBS’s Media Sources guide documents VLC Video as a source that can contain a playlist; its Media Source is configured around a single local file.
- Install VLC. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to work. Match its architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Add the source. In OBS, select the scene that should show the recordings. In Sources, click + and choose VLC Video. If you do not see it, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
- Build the playlist. Open the source properties and add the local video files in the order you want them to play. Leave Shuffle Playlist off to preserve that order.
- Choose whether playback repeats. Turn Loop Playlist off if the sequence should stop after the last file; leave it on if it should start again. OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default, so check it rather than assuming the sequence will stop.
- Set visibility behavior. Choose whether the source should stop and restart, pause and resume, or keep playing when it is not visible. Select the behavior that fits how you use the scene.
- Test the sequence. Preview it or make a local test recording. Check picture and audio at every file boundary before going live. OBS documents playlist controls but does not guarantee frame-perfect or gapless playback between arbitrary files.
Understand what “without a transition” means
OBS transitions apply when the active scene changes. When one VLC Video source advances to its next playlist item, the item changes within that source; no scene transition is involved. You do not need to set a transition to make this playlist work.
If you also want an immediate change when switching between OBS scenes, select Cut in the Scene Transitions controls. OBS’s Overview Guide describes Cut as an available transition and explains that you can select a transition and set its duration. A cut controls scene changes, not the playlist’s file boundaries.

Use separate scenes only when each recording needs its own layout
If each video needs different overlays or positioning, a playlist in one scene may not fit. Put the recordings in separate scenes and use a method that detects media completion to trigger scene changes; set the scene transition to Cut for an immediate switch.
Automatic scene switching at the end of each playlist item is a different workflow from advancing through a VLC playlist. The OBS Media Sources guide and Overview Guide explain playlist and transition controls, but do not give a current, version-specific recipe for automatically switching scenes when each item ends. Do not assume that behavior is built in; verify any automation method against your installed OBS version before relying on it live.

Before you start the YouTube Live stream
- Confirm the files are in the intended order and Shuffle Playlist is off.
- Confirm Loop Playlist matches whether you want playback to stop or repeat at the end.
- Check that the chosen visibility behavior does not pause or stop playback unexpectedly.
- Preview video and audio across each boundary, including the final file.
- If you use separate scenes, test the scene-switching automation and the Cut transition independently.
