Treat those as separate steps: launch Wirecast, restore the production, put the playlist live and start playback, then start the YouTube broadcast. The last two steps need to be verified in your installed Wirecast version and tested with the actual YouTube event.
What “launch a playlist” can mean
A Wirecast playlist is a shot in the production, not the same thing as the Wirecast app or the YouTube broadcast. A successful unattended startup therefore depends on several separate actions:
- Open Wirecast: Windows starts the application after the account signs in.
- Restore the show: Wirecast opens the saved document containing the playlist.
- Put the playlist on air and play it: The playlist shot becomes live and its media playback begins.
- Start YouTube Live: Wirecast connects to and starts the intended YouTube event.
Decide which of these you actually need. If you only want Wirecast ready after sign-in, stop after restoring the show. If you need a fully unattended broadcast, every stage must work and be tested; opening the app alone does not do it.
Set up Wirecast to open after Windows sign-in
Windows Startup behavior is tied to the user signing in; it is not the same as starting a broadcast before anyone signs in. Configure your Windows account to launch the installed Wirecast application after sign-in, using the Startup apps or another supported Windows startup method for your edition. The exact Windows procedure is not established here, so check the current Microsoft instructions for your Windows 10 or 11 build rather than relying on old menu paths.

After configuring startup, sign out and back in to confirm that Wirecast opens. That verifies only the first stage: it does not show that the correct show loads, that the playlist plays, or that YouTube goes live.
Restore the saved Wirecast production
Save the Wirecast document that contains the playlist and verify that it opens correctly by opening it manually. Then, in the Preferences for your installed Wirecast release, look for an option equivalent to Open last document on startup. That wording appears in a December 2012 Wirecast for YouTube guide; it is a legacy reference, not confirmation that Wirecast 16 uses the same label or offers the same behavior. If your release has no suitable startup preference, Windows opening Wirecast may leave you at the application without restoring the intended production. Do not assume that saving a document makes it load automatically.
Make the playlist live and start playback
In the Wirecast 7 Windows guide, a playlist works like another shot: select the playlist shot to put it in Preview, then click Go to take it live. See the Wirecast 7 Windows guide for that documented workflow. Current controls and labels can vary by release.

The Wirecast 16 Windows User Guide documents media commands including Start Playing All Movies and Shuffle Playlist, and describes AutoLive as placing a clicked shot in the Live Broadcast Area. Those are playback and shot-placement controls; their presence does not establish that playback starts automatically when Windows launches Wirecast. Telestream’s 2014 Wirecast 6 announcement described playlists as a way to queue videos, images, audio, or live shots for broadcasts and archived content. That historical description explains the use case, but is not a current compatibility or automatic-start promise: Wirecast 6 announcement.

Unless your installed version provides a documented and verified automatic-playback setting, plan to start the playlist manually or treat playback automation as unconfirmed. A saved playlist is not necessarily a playlist that starts playing at app launch.

Starting media in Wirecast and starting a YouTube broadcast are distinct. If you want the broadcast to begin automatically, check the destination and event settings in your installed Wirecast release, then test against the specific scheduled YouTube event you intend to use. Do not infer that the event will start just because Wirecast opened or the playlist is playing.

Version history shows why this needs a real test: Telestream listed Wirecast 16.5.1 as fixing an issue where a stream would not automatically start a YouTube event when Automatically Go Live was checked. Its history lists Wirecast 16.5.3 dated June 10, 2026. The fix is evidence that version and event configuration matter, not a guarantee for every setup or later release. Check Telestream’s current Wirecast resources and version history for release details; the support page lists releases through 16.5.4 and a Windows baseline of Windows 10 1809 or higher, but these details can change.
Test the complete startup chain safely
- Save the production with the intended playlist and confirm that the document opens normally.
- Use an appropriate private or test YouTube event and confirm that Wirecast is configured for the intended destination.
- Sign out of Windows or restart, then sign in with the account configured to launch Wirecast.
- Check whether Wirecast opens and whether it restores the correct show.
- Confirm whether the playlist shot becomes live and whether its media actually begins playing.
- Confirm whether the intended YouTube event starts, and verify the resulting live output in YouTube.
Keep an attended check until each stage has been confirmed in your own environment. The available documentation does not establish reliable unattended operation end to end, and no test of your particular Windows, Wirecast, and YouTube configuration can be inferred from the version notes.
