You can earn from referrals by recommending products or services your audience genuinely needs through a tracked link or code, or by qualifying for platform sponsorship opportunities. Neither route guarantees income: commissions depend on each program’s terms and audience actions, while sponsorships depend on eligibility, campaign availability, and a brand’s criteria. Make the relationship clear when you promote anything, and check the rules for your platform and location.
What “earning referrals” means
A referral arrangement gives you a tracked link or code to share. If a viewer takes a qualifying action—such as signing up or buying, as defined by that program—you may receive a commission or other reward. Read the terms before sharing: attribution rules, qualifying actions, payment conditions, and exclusions differ by program. No particular merchant, commission rate, conversion rate, or cookie duration is established here, so do not assume that a click or signup will earn a specific amount.
A sponsorship is different. A brand may pay or provide value in exchange for agreed promotional content; the deal may specify deliverables, approvals, and other terms. Compare opportunities by how well the offer fits your viewers, what action earns a reward, the work and approval requirements, and how attribution and payment are explained—not by unsupported estimates of what streamers typically earn.
Ways streamers can pursue referral income
Use relevant affiliate or referral programs
Choose offers that fit your channel and that you can describe honestly. Explain why you recommend the item or service, and state plainly if you may earn a commission when viewers use your link or code. Check the program’s terms before promoting it, including which actions qualify and how payments are handled.

Twitch’s branded-content help page gives sharing affiliate links in response to community questions as an example that does not itself require Twitch’s branded-content tool. That narrow example is not permission to skip disclosures required by law or another platform’s rules.
Check Twitch sponsorship opportunities
In an announcement dated August 20, 2026, Twitch said Affiliates could access selected sponsorship campaigns, subject to completing Creator Sponsorship Certification. Twitch describes a Creator Profile for presenting channel information and sponsorship interests; it says a completed profile increases the chance of receiving brand opportunities. Campaigns may be invitation-based, and creators must meet the brand’s criteria. This is a potential opportunity, not a promise of an offer or payment. Twitch also names Wehype as a partner that can surface additional offers.

- If eligible, complete Creator Sponsorship Certification and the portal steps shown to you.
- Keep your Creator Profile, channel information, clips, and sponsorship interests accurate and representative.
- Before accepting a campaign, read its brief, deliverables, approval requirements, compensation terms, and disclosure instructions.
Consider platform programs without confusing them with referrals
Twitch’s Affiliate program is a platform monetization program, not itself a referral commission. Twitch lists these invitation achievements: 25 followers, four streamed hours, streaming on four different days, and an average of three viewers on four different days in the last 30 days. They are eligibility thresholds, not a guarantee of income.
Kick’s Partner Program is another platform-specific opportunity, but its requirements are not referral terms. Kick’s overview lists 30 hours and 250 unique chatters in the last 30 days. Its Help Center article, published July 7, 2026, gives a fuller set: verified status, 75 average concurrent viewers, 30 hours, 25 active subscriptions, and 250 unique chatters. Kick says metrics can change, so check its current guidance and your dashboard rather than treating these figures as permanent. Kick also describes a multistreaming option and says qualifying partners can still earn 50% of their Partner income while streaming on multiple platforms; that is a platform revenue term, not a referral commission or a promise of more referrals.

Disclose recommendations clearly
Say what the relationship is when you recommend something: for example, “That’s my referral link; I may earn a commission if you sign up,” or “The company provided this product, and this segment is sponsored.” Use wording that accurately describes the arrangement; examples are not a legal safe harbor.
- Put the disclosure with the endorsement. The FTC’s U.S. guidance says disclosures should accompany the endorsement message. For a video endorsement, disclose in the video, not only in its description.
- On Twitch, use the platform tool when applicable. Twitch says to use its branded-content disclosure tool for branded content exchanged for value. Its Terms of Service place responsibility for compliance with applicable advertising laws and guidelines on creators.
- On Kick, make the relationship clear near the link or during the stream. Kick’s guidance also calls for its Branded Content tool for paid partnerships.
- On YouTube, declare brand deals in Studio. YouTube requires creators to declare branded content and says its platform label does not replace the creator’s responsibility to make the disclosure clear and prominent.
- Check the rules where you and your viewers are. FTC materials are U.S. guidance, not a substitute for jurisdiction-specific requirements or platform rules.
Keep a referral offer trustworthy
- Recommend only something you can explain accurately and that is relevant to your audience.
- State whether the link or code may earn you a commission, or whether a brand paid for or provided the promotion.
- Keep claims about a product within what you know and can support; do not imply that a referral link guarantees a viewer an outcome or you a payment.
- Review each program’s terms and each sponsorship brief before you publish or go live.
