You can loop a prerecorded video into YouTube Live from an Amazon EC2 Linux instance with FFmpeg by enabling live streaming on your channel, creating a live event, and sending a real-time loop to the RTMPS endpoint and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. The FFmpeg loop flags are straightforward, but the YouTube output command must be adapted and tested with your actual file and instance; the AWS example cited here demonstrates the loop pattern for IVS, not a validated YouTube command.

Before you start: YouTube Live access and event

There is no separate India-specific eligibility rule established here. Check the current status of your own channel in YouTube Studio and follow YouTube’s general prerequisites. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions; first-time live enablement may take up to 24 hours. Its guidance also specifies 90 days without live-streaming restrictions. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

  1. Verify the channel and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. If this is your first enablement, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
  2. Create or schedule a live stream using YouTube’s encoder workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  3. Choose the event’s visibility deliberately. Use an unlisted test first; only make the event public after checking the incoming preview and stream health.

Get the YouTube ingest URL and protect the stream key

In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the current stream URL and stream key for the event or selected reusable key. The key identifies your stream to the encoder, so handle it like a password. YouTube explains stream URLs and keys in Manage live stream settings.

  • Do not publish the key in a tutorial, screenshot, public repository, shared terminal session, or world-readable service file.
  • Avoid leaving it in shell history or logs. Use a restricted configuration file or another secret-handling method suitable for your Linux setup.
  • If it is exposed, reset the key in YouTube Live Control Room and update the encoder configuration.

Create and secure an EC2 Linux instance

Select an AWS Region and instance type based on your own test, required encoding workload, and current costs. The available guidance does not establish one best EC2 Region for every Indian channel or audience. A practical approach is to compare candidate regions with an unlisted test and assess Live Control Room health and feedback from viewers.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Launch a Linux EC2 instance in your chosen Region. Check its available compute capacity against the chosen encoding settings and whether FFmpeg will encode or simply pass through compatible streams.
  2. Configure its security group to allow SSH only from your administrator IP/network or another controlled management route. AWS describes security groups as virtual firewalls controlling inbound and outbound traffic: Security groups for EC2.
  3. Connect through an approved management route, following AWS’s Linux SSH connection guidance. Do not expose SSH broadly just to make setup easier.
  4. Install FFmpeg using the package source and commands for your specific Linux distribution and AMI. There is no single package command that applies to every EC2 Linux image.
  5. Transfer the source video to the instance. Confirm that the file is readable, has compatible audio/video codecs, and fits within available disk space.

Build and test the FFmpeg loop

For a file input, FFmpeg needs real-time pacing so it does not send the file faster than playback, and an infinite input loop so it repeats. The relevant options are -re and -stream_loop -1. AWS shows these in an FFmpeg example for Amazon IVS; that demonstrates the FFmpeg pattern, not a YouTube-ready configuration: Amazon IVS Low-Latency Streaming User Guide.

Adapt the output protocol and destination to the RTMPS ingest URL from YouTube Live Control Room, and append the secret stream key in the format YouTube requires. Because exact output syntax depends on the endpoint, key format, FFmpeg build, codecs, and file, treat this as a configuration to validate—not a guaranteed copy-and-run command. Do not put a real key in a public example. Start with an unlisted test event and verify that the actual instance can send the actual media reliably.

Match YouTube’s encoder recommendations

YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS and publishes settings by codec and resolution. Its current encoder guidance includes H.264, H.265, and AV1 options, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval—not longer than four seconds. For H.264, the listed recommended bitrates include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular EC2 instance or network path will deliver a healthy stream. Consult the full table before choosing settings: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

  • Choose codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate as a compatible set; do not assume a higher bitrate is always better.
  • Use settings the instance and its network path can sustain continuously. If encoding on the instance, confirm it can encode at the target frame rate without falling behind.
  • Use the two-second keyframe recommendation and keep the interval at or below four seconds.

Verify the incoming stream and keep it running

  1. Start FFmpeg and open the event in YouTube Live Control Room.
  2. Wait for the incoming preview and review the stream health before changing visibility. Check both picture and audio.
  3. Monitor the FFmpeg process and the host. If FFmpeg exits or the instance reboots, the stream stops unless you have arranged a tested restart mechanism.
  4. For unattended operation, configure a process supervisor or service manager appropriate to the chosen Linux distribution. Test what happens after an FFmpeg failure and after a host restart; do not assume a process launched in an interactive shell will survive either.
  5. Keep a plan for updating the playlist or source file, rotating a compromised key, and responding to a YouTube or network interruption.

Plan session length, archives, and cost

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish automatic archive behavior for one uninterrupted 24/7 session longer than that, so do not rely on an archive being created for such a session. Decide whether your channel needs continuous continuity or separately managed shorter sessions, and test the operational impact before committing to a schedule. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

EC2 cost depends on the instance type, operating system, Region, runtime, and current account pricing. Compute charges apply while an instance is running, with AWS stating a 60-second minimum; internet data transfer out may add cost. AWS lists 100 GB per month of free internet data transfer out aggregated across AWS services and Regions, with exceptions for China and GovCloud; confirm current eligibility and charges for your account. See EC2 On-Demand Instance Pricing.

At a sustained 10 Mbps, for example, the stream sends roughly 4.5 GB of video data per hour before protocol overhead; use the actual output bitrate and runtime to estimate transfer. This arithmetic is not an AWS bill estimate: check the current pricing for your intended Region and account, including any applicable data-transfer charges. AWS’s pricing page links to its current cost tools.

DIY EC2 versus a managed cloud workflow

EC2 gives you control over the Linux host, FFmpeg build, process management, and restart strategy, but you are responsible for installing and maintaining them, monitoring failures, protecting credentials, and checking compute and transfer costs. A managed option can reduce host administration, but confirm that it supports your exact YouTube workflow and review its terms and pricing before relying on it. YouTube’s encoder setup information mentions a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded streaming tool, but that mention alone does not establish its program terms or a cost comparison.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is an alternative for keeping uploaded prerecorded videos live on YouTube without maintaining an EC2 host. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The same flat price per slot applies to any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card.

Troubleshooting

YouTube does not show an incoming preview

  • Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel and that the selected event is open for encoder input.
  • Confirm that the URL and key are current and correspond to the intended event or reusable key. Reset the key if it may have been exposed.
  • Check that the output uses the RTMPS destination and key format provided by YouTube, then retry with an unlisted test.

FFmpeg exits or repeats too quickly

  • Confirm the input path is correct and the EC2 user can read the file.
  • Check that the loop option applies to the file input and that real-time pacing is enabled. AWS’s example supports the loop pattern for IVS; the complete YouTube output still needs testing with your endpoint and build.
  • Inspect available disk space and the FFmpeg error output without printing or sharing the stream key.

Stream health is poor or the picture/audio is wrong

  • Compare codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR mode, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current recommendations.
  • Reduce the target settings if the instance cannot sustain encoding or the network path cannot sustain upload; confirm the change in a fresh test.
  • Check that the source file contains the expected audio and video streams and that the selected output codecs are compatible with the ingest settings.

The stream stops after a reboot or process failure

  • Check whether FFmpeg was started only in an interactive shell. Configure and test a suitable supervisor or service manager for the selected Linux distribution.
  • Verify the instance starts, the source file is available, and credentials are loaded securely after reboot.
  • Review YouTube Live Control Room and host monitoring to distinguish an encoder exit from an ingest interruption.
