1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesShort answer: Vultr can host a 24/7 YouTube livestream, but it is a hands-on cloud-server option rather than a turnkey uptime guarantee. Vultr documents two different routes: a browser-accessible Broadcaster Marketplace app that calls for an A16 GPU instance, and a self-managed Ubuntu server running OBS and FFmpeg. Its self-managed guide suggests at least 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth; those are starting recommendations, not independent proof of reliability.
If the goal is simply to keep uploaded videos looping on YouTube without maintaining a server, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it runs in the cloud, supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. If you want server access and control over OBS, Vultr is worth evaluating—provided you account for bandwidth, maintenance, and recovery yourself.
What Vultr offers for continuous YouTube streaming
Vultr’s documentation describes two ways to run an OBS-based YouTube stream in the cloud. They are separate deployment paths, not two names for the same plan:
- Vultr Broadcaster Marketplace app: a browser-accessible OBS implementation. The deployment instructions specify the One Click Vultr Broadcaster A16 GPU instance, then configure scenes, output, and YouTube as the destination. For a 24/7 stream using video files, Vultr says to upload the source files to the server. Vultr’s Broadcaster guide describes SFTP and also mentions FTP, SCP, and Rsync for transferring files.
- Self-managed Ubuntu: install and configure OBS Studio and FFmpeg on a general-purpose Ubuntu VM, then connect OBS to YouTube. Vultr’s OBS guide, dated April 1, 2025, suggests a baseline of 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth.
The Broadcaster guide describes “Unlimited Network Bandwidth” for that offering. Do not assume the claim applies to every Cloud Compute instance; check the selected product and its terms. For the self-managed path, Vultr’s guide explicitly calls for monitoring bandwidth.

Which Vultr route fits your stream?
| Factor | Broadcaster Marketplace app | Self-managed Ubuntu and OBS |
|---|---|---|
| Compute specified by the instructions | One Click Vultr Broadcaster A16 GPU instance | Guide baseline: at least 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth |
| Setup and control | Browser-accessible OBS implementation with scenes and GPU integration; follow the app’s deployment and YouTube setup instructions. | Install and maintain OBS Studio and FFmpeg yourself; greater responsibility for server and software configuration. |
| File-based 24/7 operation | Upload source files to the server; Vultr’s guide demonstrates SFTP and mentions FTP, SCP, and Rsync. | Provide the media files and configure the OBS/FFmpeg workflow that plays them. |
| Transfer planning | The guide makes an “Unlimited Network Bandwidth” claim for its described offering; verify the terms for the actual instance before relying on it. | Plan around the chosen instance’s transfer allowance and any overage fees; the guide’s 3 TB is its suggested baseline, not a promise that every plan includes it. |
| Reliability evidence | Setup guidance is available, but the documentation cited here does not establish a configuration-specific uptime guarantee or independent performance test. | Vultr provides operational recommendations, not independent proof that a particular stream will remain uninterrupted. |
Choose Broadcaster if you want the documented, browser-accessible OBS route and are comfortable selecting the specified GPU instance. Choose Ubuntu if you want to manage the OBS/FFmpeg stack directly and can own updates, configuration, and monitoring. Neither guide establishes expected latency, performance for a particular scene or codec, or a 24/7 availability guarantee for your deployment.
Plan resolution, bitrate, and transfer before deploying
Vultr’s 2025 OBS guide publishes these example bitrate ranges by output resolution and frame rate. They are configuration guidance from Vultr, not results from an independent stream test. Check the guide for its current context before configuring your encoder.

| Output | Vultr’s example bitrate range |
|---|---|
| 852 × 480 at 30 fps | 500–2,000 Kbps |
| 1280 × 720 at 30 fps | 1,500–4,500 Kbps |
| 1280 × 720 at 60 fps | 2,500–6,500 Kbps |
| 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps | 3,000–6,500 Kbps |
| 1920 × 1080 at 60 fps | 4,500–9,500 Kbps |
| 3840 × 2160 at 30 fps | 13,000–34,000 Kbps |
| 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps | 20,000–51,000 Kbps |
For an always-on broadcast, outbound data grows with both bitrate and time spent streaming. A higher-resolution or higher-frame-rate configuration can therefore increase transfer use substantially. Estimate usage from your chosen bitrate and expected active hours, then compare it with the allowance and overage terms for the exact instance and region. Vultr’s bandwidth dashboard lets you track transfer use and overage fees; its Cloud Compute FAQ is also where to check product questions, but the available FAQ information here does not establish charges for a stopped instance.
How to run the self-managed Ubuntu and OBS route
Vultr’s guide provides the Ubuntu setup path and installation instructions. The following sequence summarizes the decisions and operating checks that matter; use the guide for the commands and software-specific steps rather than assuming every VM image or package version behaves identically.

- Select an Ubuntu VM: use Vultr’s suggested baseline of at least 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth as a planning starting point. Confirm the actual plan’s specifications, region, included transfer, and overage pricing at checkout.
- Install OBS Studio and FFmpeg: follow the installation steps in Vultr’s Ubuntu streaming guide. Keep the server and streaming software updated as part of ongoing maintenance.
- Prepare YouTube and the stream destination: create or select the YouTube live stream, then configure OBS to send to YouTube using the stream settings shown in YouTube Studio. Treat the stream key as a secret: do not publish it in commands, screenshots, or logs, and replace it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Set output to match the source and available compute: choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate from a suitable row in Vultr’s table above. A higher output setting demands more encoder capacity and transfer; begin with a setting appropriate to the content and confirm the server can sustain it.
- Configure reconnect behavior: Vultr recommends an automatic reconnect delay of 3 seconds or less and at least 1,000 maximum retries. These settings help OBS attempt recovery after a disconnect; they do not make the stream immune to server, network, or YouTube interruptions.
- Test before relying on the stream: start a private or otherwise suitable test broadcast, confirm YouTube receives video and audio, and check for dropped frames, buffering, and audio/video sync problems before leaving it unattended.
- Monitor the running server: watch OBS CPU use and bandwidth in Vultr’s dashboard. Vultr warns that CPU utilization above 90% can lead to dropped frames and buffering. If load is excessive, reduce output demands or move to a suitable larger configuration, then test again.
24/7 operations: what a cloud VM does—and does not—solve
Hosting OBS on Vultr removes the need to leave a home computer running, but it does not remove operational work. You still need to keep the server and software configured, supply and maintain source files, protect the stream key, monitor CPU and transfer, and respond if the process or VM stops. OBS reconnect settings address some interruptions, not every failure mode.
For the Broadcaster app, Vultr’s guide explicitly advises uploading source files to the server for a 24/7 stream. For self-managed OBS, make sure the media source and playback arrangement are designed to continue after a file ends or OBS reconnects; the cited guide does not establish a universal playlist or recovery configuration for every kind of content.

At retrieval, Vultr’s Cloud Compute overview showed a starting price of $0.005/hour for an entry configuration with 1 vCPU, 0.5 GB RAM, and 10 GB storage. That configuration is materially smaller than the baseline in Vultr’s OBS guide and is not a realistic cost estimate for the documented streaming setup. Pricing and plan details can change, so verify the current price for the precise instance and region you intend to deploy.

Your full cost depends on the selected compute plan, the transfer allowance and any overage, storage, and how long the instance runs. For a stream intended to stay live continuously, budget against continuous operation rather than a short test. The available information does not establish a current plan-specific monthly bill or answer whether stopping an instance still incurs particular charges; check the live plan terms before purchase.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your requirement is to loop uploaded videos on YouTube rather than manage an OBS server, StreamNeo is a simpler alternative to try first: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with no re-encoding or quality tiers, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
StreamNeo is for uploaded-video streams to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
