First identify whether YouTube has interrupted the live stream, placed a Content ID claim on its archive, or removed content and issued a copyright strike. These are different situations with different remedies. Stop or replace flagged content during a live warning; for an archived claim, check the matched material and your rights before editing or disputing; for a removal and strike, follow the strike-resolution options in YouTube Studio.
Identify what happened before taking action
Open YouTube Studio and read the notice and any linked claim or restriction details. A “copyright claim” may refer to a Content ID claim on an archived stream, but a live match or a copyright removal request has different consequences.
| What you see | What it means | First response |
|---|---|---|
| A warning or interruption while live | YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. A warning can replace the stream with a placeholder; continuing to show the content can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. [YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams] | Stop or replace the flagged content while the warning is active. If it is licensed, contact the actual rights owner about allowlisting your channel in Content ID. |
| A Content ID claim on the archived stream | For an archived stream, a Content ID claim can be made after the live broadcast ends. A claim typically does not itself result in a copyright strike. [YouTube Help: Dispute a copyright claim] [YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes] | Review the matched segment, claimant, and claimed material, then choose whether to edit the archive or dispute on a valid basis. |
| A removal notice and copyright strike | This is a copyright removal request YouTube found valid, not just a Content ID claim. A removal of an active live stream can also restrict live-streaming access. [YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes] | Read the removal notice and consider the listed strike-resolution routes. Do not assume that deleting the video clears a strike. |
Check rights to the exact bhajan recording
A devotional subject or traditional melody does not establish that a particular recording is free to rebroadcast. A stream can involve rights in both the sound recording and the underlying composition. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the necessary rights for live and archived content, including music rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. [YouTube Livestream terms and conditions]
Before deciding whether to dispute or continue using a track, check whether your permission covers the specific recording and composition, the territories where the stream is available, the license term, and YouTube live and archived use. A document that covers only a recording, territory, or use different from yours may not answer the question. A general platform notice cannot determine whether an individual license is sufficient.

Even if you have a license, YouTube may still interrupt a live stream when the channel is not on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights owner—not simply the distributor or uploader, unless they control the relevant rights—to allowlist the channel. Do not keep rebroadcasting flagged content while the live warning remains active.
If YouTube interrupts or warns the live stream
- Check the live notice and Studio dashboard. Identify the content YouTube has matched and whether the channel also has a strike or live-stream restriction.
- Stop or replace the flagged material. Remove the third-party audio or video from the live playlist, or switch to material for which you can document the necessary rights. Continuing to show flagged content can lead to an interruption or termination.
- If licensed, contact the rights owner. Ask them to add the channel to their Content ID allowlist and confirm that the permission covers the recording, composition, territories, term, and YouTube live and archived use.
- Check what happened after the live session. If YouTube archives the stream, inspect Studio again for a separate Content ID claim. Resolving the live warning does not itself determine the status of the archive.
If the archived stream has a Content ID claim
Review the match and decide whether the material is cleared
In YouTube Studio, open the video’s copyright or restrictions details. Check the matched segment, claimant, and claimed material against your documentation for the recording and composition. Do not dispute simply because the stream is devotional, you credited the artist, you bought a copy, or you do not monetize the video. Those facts alone are not valid grounds for a dispute. YouTube says a dispute is appropriate when you have all necessary rights, a qualifying copyright exception applies, or the match is mistaken. [YouTube Help: Dispute a copyright claim]

If you do not have a valid basis to dispute
Use the options Studio offers for the claimed video, which may include trimming the claimed segment, replacing claimed music with Audio Library music, or muting the claimed audio. YouTube says successful edits clear the claim. Before saving, make a backup and inspect how the change will affect the full archive: under YouTube’s guidance updated in June 2025, saved Studio edits cannot be reverted. [YouTube Help: Remove copyright-claimed content from videos]
If you have a defensible reason to dispute
Submit accurate, specific information that explains your rights or why the match is wrong. The claimant normally has 30 days to respond to an ordinary dispute. A rejected dispute may leave the claim in place; an appeal or a removal-request process raises the stakes, so use escalation only when your position is well supported. YouTube does not decide whether you should dispute a claim. [YouTube Help: Dispute a copyright claim]

If the video was removed and a strike was issued
Use the strike information in YouTube Studio and the removal notice to confirm the claimant, the affected content, and any deadline. YouTube lists three possible routes for resolving a strike:
- Complete Copyright School and wait. A strike expires after 90 days if Copyright School is completed and the channel has fewer than three active copyright strikes. [YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes]
- Ask for a retraction. Contact the claimant and request that they retract the removal request. A retraction is the claimant’s choice.
- File a counter notification when you have a genuine basis. This is a formal response for a removal you believe was mistaken; do not use it as a routine way to contest an ordinary Content ID claim. Review YouTube’s instructions and the legal implications before submitting one. [YouTube Help: About copyright removal requests]
If YouTube gives notice that a removal request is scheduled, it may allow seven days to act before the content is removed and a strike is applied. Follow the deadline and options stated in the notice. Deleting a video does not clear a strike that is already active. [YouTube Help: About copyright removal requests]

If both you and the claimant are trying to monetize the video, revenue may continue to accrue during a Content ID dispute and be held until the dispute is resolved. Disputing within five days can hold revenue from the original claim date; disputing later holds revenue from the date you file. YouTube says the party entitled to the revenue receives it after resolution. [YouTube Help: Monetization during copyright claim disputes]

Common mistakes and safer next steps
- Assuming all bhajans are public domain. The status of an unidentified performance or recording cannot be established from its devotional subject. Check the exact recording, composition, and license.
- Assuming a license guarantees uninterrupted live playback. A licensed channel may still need the rights owner to add it to the Content ID allowlist.
- Disputing because you gave credit, bought the track, or did not monetize. These facts alone do not establish a valid dispute basis.
- Saving an archive edit without a backup. YouTube’s current guidance says saved Studio edits cannot be reverted; preserve a copy and review the proposed result first.
- Treating a Content ID claim as a strike—or a strike as just a claim. Check the actual Studio notice before choosing a response, because removal and strike procedures have different consequences.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos; it does not provide music rights or make an uncleared bhajan safe to stream. You still need permission for the exact content. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded material from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Visit StreamNeo for details, or start the free day.
