To loop one devotional video in OBS, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop. For several videos, use a VLC Video Source, make a playlist, and turn on Loop Playlist. These controls repeat playback, but OBS does not document them as guaranteeing a perfectly gapless transition. Preview and test your actual file and scene before going live.
Choose the right OBS source
| Use case | OBS source and setting | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat one local video | Media Source; enable Loop | OBS describes Loop as replaying the file after playback completes. |
| Cycle through multiple videos | VLC Video Source; enable Loop Playlist | Requires VLC installed. Match VLC’s architecture to OBS; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. |
Media Source supports common video and audio formats, including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, AAC, and WAV. Check that your devotional video plays correctly before configuring the stream. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the source controls and behavior.
Set up a single video loop
- Add the file: In your scene’s Sources, add a Media Source, choose the local video file, and confirm playback.
- Enable looping: Open the source properties and check Loop.
- Keep it active: Leave the source active in the scene for the intended stream. If you switch scenes or hide the source, review its visibility behavior so you know whether playback restarts or resumes.
- Check the join: Preview the end and beginning of the file in OBS. Listen for a silence or abrupt audio change and watch for a black frame or visual jump.
Loop a playlist
- Install VLC, ensuring its architecture matches OBS. With 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Add a VLC Video Source to the scene and build the playlist from the devotional videos you want to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist in the source settings.
- Preview the transition between each item and from the final item back to the first. Confirm that the intended order and audio levels are right before streaming.
Understand what “without a gap” means
The documented loop controls replay a file after it completes or restart a playlist after its media list runs out. They do not promise a zero-frame video transition or a transition with no silent audio samples. The actual result can depend on the media and scene setup, so test the full loop in the same configuration you plan to stream. If a transition is noticeable, adjust the source file or playlist and test again rather than assuming the loop option removes every seam.
Choose source visibility behavior deliberately
When a source becomes active, OBS can be set to restart playback. Media Source can also close its file while inactive; reopening it when shown may cause a short delay. VLC Video Source offers visibility behavior that can stop and restart, pause and resume, or continue playing while hidden. Decide what should happen when changing scenes, then test those scene changes: a source that continues while hidden may be at a different point when shown again, while a restarting source begins over.

Send the OBS feed to YouTube
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create a stream or select an existing one. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to get the server URL and stream key.
- In OBS stream settings, enter the displayed server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: it lets an encoder send a feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder feed and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check the picture and listen to the audio there before proceeding.
- Rehearse privately or unlisted when appropriate. During the broadcast, continue monitoring audio and video quality; YouTube recommends checking the preview before starting and monitoring quality while live. See YouTube’s livestream tips.
Clear the music and video for livestream use
Use music, video, and other visual material only when you have the rights required for your intended livestream and territories. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions include music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and a stream may be interrupted or terminated; even licensed material may interrupt a broadcast if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel. Confirm the scope of your permission and, where relevant, ask the rights owner whether your YouTube channel must be allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams before going live.
Troubleshoot playback and stream problems
- The video stops at the end: Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist on the VLC Video Source.
- A playlist source is unavailable: Confirm VLC is installed and matches OBS’s architecture.
- A delay appears after switching scenes: Review whether the source closes its file while inactive. Reopening can introduce a short delay; test with the source kept active or change the visibility behavior.
- Playback resumes at an unexpected point: Check whether the source is configured to restart when active, pause and resume, or continue while hidden. Choose the behavior that fits your scene transitions and rehearse it.
- The YouTube preview does not appear: Verify the server URL and stream key in OBS against the values shown for the selected stream in Live Control Room, then confirm the encoder feed is started.
- The stream is interrupted after it starts: Review YouTube’s copyright guidance and confirm that the material is cleared for livestream use. If the rights owner licensed third-party music, check whether the channel needs allowlisting.
- The loop has a noticeable seam: The loop control does not guarantee gapless playback. Inspect the file’s ending and beginning, test the transition in OBS, and adjust the media or playlist if needed.
Or let it run in the cloud
