To keep recorded Marathi sermons playing as a YouTube Live stream, create or schedule a broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, copy the current ingestion URL and stream key into an FFmpeg command, then check YouTube’s preview and stream health. For a continuous feed, FFmpeg must repeat the recording and be prepared to reconnect after output interruptions. Test the recording and recovery behavior before leaving the stream unattended; a long-running broadcast is not guaranteed to produce one complete archive.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with access to YouTube Live. YouTube’s live-streaming availability and setup requirements can depend on the channel, so confirm you can create a broadcast in Live Control Room before configuring FFmpeg.
- An installed FFmpeg build that includes the input and output protocols you plan to use. FFmpeg options and behavior can differ by build and version.
- A sermon recording you have permission to stream, plus a stable computer and internet connection for as long as you intend to run FFmpeg.
- The current ingestion URL and stream key provided for your YouTube stream. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to that stream.
Marathi language or religious subject matter does not by itself establish that a recording is cleared for streaming. Confirm that you have the necessary rights to the sermon recording and any music, images, or other material included in it. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether FFmpeg can transmit the file.
Create the YouTube broadcast and get its current ingest details
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. A scheduled stream can have a watch page that viewers can visit; the watch page becomes active when the encoder starts sending content.
- Open the stream’s encoder or stream settings and copy the server/ingestion URL and stream key shown for that stream. Do not rely on an endpoint copied from an old tutorial: YouTube provides the values for the stream, and its API supports RTMP (including RTMPS), HLS, and DASH ingestion types.
- Keep the YouTube Live Control Room open. After FFmpeg starts, use its preview and health feedback to confirm YouTube is receiving the stream and to address any configuration issues it reports.
YouTube distinguishes the broadcast—the watchable event and its video—from the stream settings used to deliver audio and video. Reusing a stream for recurring broadcasts or managing multiple broadcast events is possible through YouTube’s broadcast/stream resources, but creating one FFmpeg output does not automatically arrange a particular schedule or archive strategy.
Prepare a looped FFmpeg output
The following is a starting template for a file containing video and audio, sent to an RTMP-compatible ingest endpoint. Replace the quoted values with the current server URL and key from Live Control Room. Keep the key out of public scripts, screenshots, and logs. The template uses FFmpeg’s input-loop option, reads at the input’s normal pace, and encodes video and audio for output; it is not a tested command for every file or FFmpeg build.

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -i "/path/to/sermon.mp4" -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -c:v libx264 -c:a aac -f flv "CURRENT_INGEST_URL/CURRENT_STREAM_KEY"
-stream_loop -1asks FFmpeg to repeat the input indefinitely. Check your installed FFmpeg help and test that the loop works with the particular file.-rereads the input at its recorded rate rather than sending a file as fast as possible.-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0selects the first video and first audio streams from input 0. If the recording has no audio stream, multiple language tracks, or a different layout, inspect it and adjust mapping rather than assuming these selections are right.-c:v libx264 -c:a aacrequests H.264 video and AAC audio encoding. The encoder must be available in your FFmpeg build. Choose resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and other output settings to fit the source and the current YouTube requirements for the selected ingest configuration; the command deliberately does not prescribe one bitrate or resolution for all recordings.-f flvselects the FLV muxer commonly used for RTMP output. Use the protocol and output format appropriate to the ingestion method YouTube has configured for your stream; this RTMP template is not a universal HLS or DASH command.
Before a long broadcast, inspect the source file’s duration and audio/video streams, then make a short test stream. Watch the preview and listen at the beginning, through the end of the recording, and across the loop boundary. Repeating a file does not guarantee a seamless join: the sound or picture may pause, cut abruptly, or behave differently depending on the media and FFmpeg build.
Start the stream and confirm it is healthy
- Run the command in a terminal on the computer that will host the stream. Leave the process running; closing the terminal or shutting down that computer stops this local setup.
- Wait for the broadcast preview in Live Control Room. Confirm the correct sermon picture and audio appear before making the stream public or telling viewers it is live.
- Review YouTube’s stream health status and any configuration issues. A running FFmpeg process alone does not prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream or that viewers can watch it.
- For a scheduled stream, verify the broadcast schedule and its viewer-facing state in Live Control Room. Starting the encoder sends media; it does not substitute for checking the broadcast setup.
Handle disconnects and plan for long broadcasts
FFmpeg documents reconnection controls for transient output failures and a FIFO muxer pattern that can attempt recovery for RTMP output. These options can help with temporary interruptions, but they do not guarantee recovery from every persistent network, encoder, ingest, or configuration failure. They also cannot guarantee that YouTube’s viewer-facing broadcast remains uninterrupted.

For unattended operation, test what happens when the connection drops and returns, when YouTube reports a stream issue, and when the source reaches its end and loops. Monitor both FFmpeg’s output and YouTube’s health feedback. If you use FFmpeg’s FIFO/recovery options, consult the documentation for your installed version and validate the resulting command with a short test before relying on it; do not treat a recovery flag as a substitute for monitoring.
Separate broadcast planning from file looping. YouTube’s documentation says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that an arbitrarily long, all-day stream will be saved as one complete replay. If you need distinct replays or scheduled viewing sessions, plan and manage broadcast events accordingly rather than assuming a single continuously running encoder will create the archive arrangement you want.

Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show a preview | Ingest URL, stream key, selected protocol, or output configuration | Copy the current values again from that broadcast’s Live Control Room settings, check for accidental spaces or truncation, and confirm the output format matches the configured ingest method. |
| FFmpeg reports an encoder or protocol error | Installed FFmpeg build or command options | Check the build’s available encoders and protocols and consult its local help. Adjust the command for the installed build instead of assuming every FFmpeg package includes the same components. |
| Picture arrives but audio is missing or wrong | Source streams and mapping | Inspect the recording’s streams and language tracks, then change the -map selections to the intended audio stream. Test playback at the source and in YouTube’s preview. |
| The loop has a pause, abrupt cut, or audio discontinuity | File boundary and media compatibility | Listen and watch at the end-to-start transition in a test. The loop option repeats input but does not promise a seamless transition; prepare an edited source if a clean join is required. |
| The feed stops after a network interruption | Persistent output failure or recovery configuration | Check FFmpeg’s error output and YouTube’s health status, restore the connection or correct the ingest issue, and test documented reconnection/FIFO recovery options on your FFmpeg version. |
| The broadcast is live but there is no complete replay | Broadcast duration and archive expectations | Do not assume a stream lasting 12 hours or longer will be automatically archived as one complete video. Arrange broadcast events and archive handling around the replay you need. |
