You can loop recorded worship on a YouTube livestream with OBS Studio: add one local video as a looping Media Source, or use a playlist and enable Loop Playlist. That repeats the program; it does not guarantee that a computer, internet connection, OBS, or YouTube will stay live unattended around the clock. Before streaming, clear the music and recordings for online use, test the full setup, and plan who will monitor and recover it.
Before you set up: clear the recordings for streaming
Rights are the first decision, not a final technical detail. A congregation may have permission to perform a piece during a service without having permission to webcast it, replay a commercial recording, or leave an archived video online. Check each song, arrangement, lyric, and sound recording against the permissions that apply to your congregation and intended use.
- Confirm that permission covers streaming or webcasting, the specific recording or performance, the destination platform, the relevant territories, and the duration of any archive.
- Do not assume a license for live worship covers a prerecorded commercial track or an archived recording. Obtain written permission from the relevant rights holders where required.
- JLicense, a music-licensing agency serving the international Jewish community, explains that religious-service exceptions do not themselves extend to broadcasting, webcasting, live-streaming, sharing, podcasting, or recording and archiving worship-service content containing copyrighted works. Its FAQ is at https://www.jlicense.com/faq/. The Rabbinical Assembly’s congregation streaming guide also identifies JLicense as a resource for covered songs: https://www.rabbinicalassembly.org/sites/default/files/2020-05/Streaming%20Services%20Guide%20for%20Congregations.pdf.
- Keep written records of the permission and its scope. If a rights holder uses YouTube Content ID, ask whether the channel needs to be allowlisted for the relevant material.
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the broadcaster to represent that they have the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including music rights: https://www.youtube.com/static?template=terms. YouTube says its systems scan live streams for third-party content. If a match is detected, the stream may be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated; this can happen even if you believe you have a license, unless the rights holder has taken steps such as adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3367684. Platform enforcement and the question of whether your congregation has permission are separate: an uninterrupted stream is not proof of rights, and a license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption.
Choose a single loop or a playlist
OBS Studio can repeat one local video or play a list of files. Choose based on the program you intend viewers to hear and see, not just convenience.

| Setup | Best suited to | Check before going live |
|---|---|---|
| One file with Loop enabled | A complete recording designed to repeat from its end back to its beginning. | Watch the transition at the seam for an unwanted pause, black frame, abrupt audio cut, or repeated opening. |
| Playlist with Loop Playlist enabled | A sequence of recordings intended to play in a fixed order or as a continuous program. | Check the order, transitions and any gaps between files; confirm every item is cleared for streaming and archiving. |
OBS’s Media Sources documentation lists common local formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM, and provides a Loop setting for replaying a file after playback completes. For playlists, OBS’s VLC Video source includes a Loop Playlist option. The settings repeat media; they do not make an interruption-proof broadcast. See https://obsproject.com/kb/media-sources.
Set up the loop in OBS
- Install and open OBS Studio. Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard if offered. OBS says the wizard considers your computer’s hardware and network conditions; review its results rather than treating them as a guarantee. Follow the official Quick Start Guide: https://obsproject.com/kb/quick-start-guide.
- Add the recorded worship video. In the Sources box, select + and choose Media Source. Create a source, browse to the local video file, and make sure it appears correctly in the preview. Enable Loop in the source properties for a single-file repeat.
- Or add a playlist. Select + in Sources, choose VLC Video Source, and add the files in the intended order. Enable Loop Playlist. This source depends on VLC support being available to OBS; if it is unavailable, use one file or another workflow supported by your installation.
- Check the picture and sound. Confirm the source fills the canvas as intended and that the audio meters move for the program audio. Listen to the output, including the file-to-file or end-to-start transition. Avoid relying on a preview image alone to catch muted or missing audio.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and obtain its stream key using YouTube’s current live-control interface. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect the account or enter the stream key as applicable. Treat the key as a password: do not show it on screen or share it. YouTube’s live setup guidance is at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2474026.
- Set output and test. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then check Settings > Output and Settings > Video against your computer, stable upload capacity, and YouTube’s current requirements. There is no single bitrate or resolution that fits every connection and stream. Keep the bitrate within both the platform’s limits and what your connection can sustain; test the actual program and confirm the YouTube player receives the intended image and sound before announcing the stream.
- Start the broadcast and verify it in YouTube Studio. Start streaming from OBS, then check the live preview or player and stream health in YouTube’s interface. Confirm that the stream is public or otherwise accessible as intended, and that the loop has begun correctly.
Make the connection and operating plan resilient
A 24/7 loop is a continuous operating commitment. OBS can keep replaying a source while the system is running, but its documentation does not promise that the computer, OBS session, network, power, or YouTube connection will remain live for 24 hours a day without supervision.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Prefer Ethernet when practical. OBS warns that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming and recommends a wired connection. Test from the actual venue; a cable does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Check the cable, router, network adapter, and other network equipment if the connection drops. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide is at https://obsproject.com/kb/stream-connection-troubleshooting.
- Measure stable upload, not just a headline speed. The Rabbinical Assembly’s 2020 guide gives 4–6 Mbps as a minimum baseline to avoid overly pixelated video or choppy audio. Treat that as the guide’s baseline, not a guarantee: the required capacity depends on chosen resolution and bitrate, network stability, and other devices using the connection.
- Set a bitrate the venue can sustain. If the stream buffers or drops, reduce bitrate to fit stable upload speed and platform limits. OBS recommends this approach in its connection troubleshooting guidance.
- Assign monitoring and recovery. Decide who checks the stream, how they will know it stopped, and how to restart OBS or the broadcast after a computer, power, network, or platform interruption. Do not assume the loop itself restarts a failed livestream.
- Review public access and archives. Check whether the stream is public, unlisted, or private as intended, who can view it, whether chat or moderation is needed, and whether YouTube will retain an archive. Confirm that the applicable permissions cover those choices and territories.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The video stops at the end instead of repeating | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source, or the playlist loop setting is off. | Open the source properties and enable Loop for one file or Loop Playlist for a VLC playlist. Test the end transition. |
| The stream is live but has no program audio | The source is muted, audio is not reaching OBS, or the wrong source is being monitored. | Check the source and mixer mute controls, watch the audio meters during playback, and listen to the YouTube test output. |
| Viewers see buffering, dropped frames, or a choppy picture | Upload is unstable or the selected bitrate exceeds what the connection can sustain; Wi-Fi or network equipment may be contributing. | Use Ethernet if available, reduce bitrate, pause competing uploads, and inspect the router, cable, and network adapter. Retest at the venue. |
| YouTube interrupts the live video or shows a placeholder | Automated third-party-content detection or a rights-holder restriction may be affecting the stream. | Review the notice in YouTube Studio, verify permissions for the exact material and uses, and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where relevant. Do not assume a license alone prevents automated enforcement. |
| The stream goes offline after the computer or internet connection fails | Local looping cannot keep broadcasting through a stopped OBS session, power loss, or network outage. | Restore the computer and connection, restart OBS and the stream as needed, then verify the YouTube player. Use a monitoring and recovery plan for future interruptions. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a recorded video looping on YouTube without keeping a computer running at the synagogue or at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
- Nothing has to stay powered on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required. There is one free day per account.
- Monthly access is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Other billing lengths are available, and you can cancel any time.
StreamNeo only streams to YouTube, and the congregation still needs the rights to every recording and song it streams. Learn more at https://streamneo.com, or start the free day on StreamNeo.
