To show the currently playing Hindi song and artist on a YouTube radio stream, add a text or browser overlay to the video scene in your encoder, then connect it to the playlist’s now-playing information. In OBS, a text source can read changing text from a file; a browser source can display a custom layout. The overlay is part of the video sent to YouTube—it is not created by putting the song title in the broadcast title or description.
Choose how the song information will appear
You have two different options, but only one is a general-purpose live on-screen label:
| Option | What viewers see | Who controls it | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Encoder or scene overlay | Song title and artist rendered directly into the live video. | You and your playlist or overlay workflow. | You need to verify the text source, update timing, Devanagari rendering and legibility in the actual output. OBS documents text-from-file and browser sources, but does not certify a Hindi font or playlist integration. OBS Text Sources and Browser Source |
| YouTube “Music in this video” | Recognized music information in the video description, when available. | YouTube and rights-holder metadata systems. | This is not a general live on-screen now-playing control. The feature is limited to partners using Studio Content Manager, and appearance and accuracy depend on identification and rights-holder data. YouTube Help: Music in this video |
YouTube’s broadcast and stream resources have metadata fields such as titles and descriptions, but those fields do not automatically produce a song label over the live picture. YouTube Live Streaming API
Set up a live Hindi song overlay in OBS
- Prepare accurate now-playing text. Keep a canonical record in your playback or playlist system with each song’s title and artist spelling as supplied by the rights holder or distributor. Preserve official Devanagari spelling. If you want romanized text as well, place it on a separate line or in a separate field rather than substituting it for the Hindi text.
- Make the current track available to OBS. Configure your playlist or station automation to write its current title and artist to a text file, or use a compatible browser-based overlay. The exact connection depends on your player and station setup; OBS’s documentation describes the sources, not a particular playlist integration.
- Add the source to the live scene. In OBS, select the scene used for the stream, add a Text source, choose a font, and enable “Read from file” to display the changing text file. Alternatively, add a Browser source for a custom web layout. Place the source above the background or visual in the scene’s source stack so it remains visible.
- Check Devanagari on the machine that will stream. Choose a font installed on that machine that can display the intended characters. Preview real station examples, including conjunct letters and vowel marks; verify that the text is shaped correctly rather than showing missing glyphs or separated marks. OBS exposes font settings, but its documentation does not certify particular fonts or Devanagari rendering across operating systems. Test the actual stream output before relying on it.
- Make the label readable. Use a high-contrast, uncluttered lower-third or another consistent placement. Keep lines short enough to read and leave each track label visible long enough for viewers to take it in. Check it at a small viewing size as well as on a full-size preview.
- Rehearse before going public. Check YouTube’s preview or monitor feed, or run a private or unlisted rehearsal. Confirm that the title and artist change on track transitions, that both fields are correct, and that the text remains legible in the final output. Google’s broadcast lifecycle guidance describes testing before a live event. YouTube Live Streaming API: Broadcast lifecycle
Keep the overlay separate from copyright clearance
A credit on screen does not grant permission to stream a song. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may replace the live stream with a placeholder image or interrupt or terminate it. YouTube also warns that a stream can be interrupted even when the creator has a license if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel in Content ID. Coordinate with the label or distributor, and confirm the permission covers livestreaming and the territories where viewers may watch. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

YouTube for Artists likewise recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels
“Music in this video” is separate from your overlay. YouTube says the feature is available only to partners using Studio Content Manager; it may be added automatically to some claimed videos and videos containing Audio Library music. If music credits or artwork are incorrect or incomplete, YouTube advises artists to contact their label, distributor, publisher or collection society so updated metadata can be submitted. Metadata may include ISRC, ISWC, UPC and ISNI identifiers. YouTube Help: Music in this video

Troubleshoot common overlay problems
| Symptom | What to check | Practical fix |
|---|---|---|
| Hindi letters appear as boxes or are missing. | The chosen font may not include the required glyphs, or the target system may not shape the text as expected. | Choose a font available on the streaming machine and test actual track names with conjunct letters and vowel marks in the output. Do not assume a font works without checking it there. |
| Text changes late or shows the previous track. | The text file or browser overlay may update at a different time from the player’s track change. | Check the playlist-to-overlay connection and observe several transitions in a rehearsal. The integration and its update timing depend on the specific setup. |
| Only part of the title or artist appears. | The text may exceed the overlay’s width or wrap unexpectedly. | Shorten the displayed line without altering the canonical track record, or adjust the layout and verify it at small viewing sizes. |
| The label is present in OBS but not visible on YouTube. | The selected scene, source order or final preview may differ from what you expected. | Confirm the live scene is the one being sent, move the text source above obscuring visuals, and inspect the YouTube preview or a private rehearsal. |
| The stream is interrupted despite showing credits. | On-screen attribution is not permission, and Content ID may still act on the stream. | Resolve rights for the stream with the label or distributor and check whether the channel needs to be allowlisted. Follow YouTube’s copyright guidance before resuming. |
