To stream Terraria on YouTube Live, run the world in Terraria, capture the game and audio with streaming software, then send that software’s output to a YouTube encoder stream. Keep two separate backups in mind: the Terraria world save preserves the playable world, while a local video recording protects the broadcast. YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived; one longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Choose how to host the Terraria world
“Archive” can mean the Terraria world file or the YouTube replay. They are separate: streaming does not replace a world-save backup, and a saved world does not preserve video of the session.
| Option | Best fit | Connection and setup |
|---|---|---|
| Host & Play | A short co-op session where the player hosting can stay in the game. | The Terraria server guide describes this as the simplest approach for short online co-op. Other players connect to the host’s session. |
| Dedicated server | A world that should run separately, without requiring a particular player to remain connected. | It is a separate server process. The community-maintained Terraria Wiki lists TCP port 7777 as the default and notes that NAT port forwarding or firewall permissions may be needed. Verify instructions for your installed version. |
The Terraria setup guide is community-maintained and warns that it may be outdated. Check the instructions and official current download for your game/server version before relying on version-specific commands; the retrieved guidance does not establish one universally current shutdown command.
Load and protect the right world
- Before starting, make a backup copy of the Terraria world file. Keep it somewhere separate from the active server files, especially before changing configuration or upgrading.
- Start Host & Play or the dedicated server and verify that it loads the intended existing world. If the server creates a new world instead, stop and correct the selection before playing; otherwise, you could stream a different world from the one you meant to preserve.
- Save changes using the save/exit procedure for your installed version. The Terraria setup guide warns that closing without its save/exit command can lose recent changes. Consult current instructions rather than guessing a command.
- For a dedicated server reachable over the internet, check the host firewall and router configuration. TCP 7777 is the wiki-listed default, but confirm the port and requirements for your version and network.
Connect the game capture to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming for the channel. YouTube’s availability and eligibility requirements can change, so check the current status in YouTube Studio before planning an event.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, create a stream for encoder software and open Live Control Room. YouTube provides the stream URL and stream key used by the encoder workflow.
- Set up your encoder. Add a game capture source for Terraria and select the intended audio sources, such as game sound and microphone commentary. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Do not share, publish, or show the stream key on screen; anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that gameplay is visible, audio is audible and balanced, and the correct Terraria world is on screen. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring audio/video quality. If recording locally, confirm that the recording file is growing before starting a long session.
- Start the broadcast from the encoder and verify it in Live Control Room. Make sure YouTube receives the feed and that the preview looks and sounds right before sharing the event with viewers.
Keep both the world and the video replay
YouTube Help says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive possibility, not a guarantee. For a long playthrough, make a local recording and consider ending the broadcast and starting a separate event before reaching 12 hours. Afterward, check that the YouTube replay is available and that the local file plays, then preserve the Terraria world save separately.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check music and other audio rights
YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted material. A match may interrupt or terminate a live broadcast, and an archived stream may receive a Content ID claim after the event. You need the necessary rights for material in both live and archived content, including music. Review game audio, overlays, alerts, and any added soundtrack before going live; avoid unlicensed background music.
Common problems and fixes
- Friends cannot join the dedicated server: Confirm the server is running, check its configured port, and review firewall and router/NAT rules. The Terraria Wiki lists TCP 7777 as the default, but version or configuration differences may apply.
- The wrong world appears: Stop before making changes, check the server’s selected world, and load the intended save. Keep a backup before changing configuration.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck the stream URL and key in the encoder and confirm the event is open in Live Control Room. Keep the key private.
- The stream has no game sound or commentary: Check which audio sources the encoder is capturing, then verify levels in its audio meters and the YouTube preview before continuing.
- The replay is missing after a long session: YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Use the local recording if available; for future broadcasts, split a long playthrough into separate events before the boundary.
- The stream is interrupted over music: Remove or replace the disputed audio source and review rights for all music and other third-party material. An archived stream can also receive a claim after the live event.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that should keep playing uploaded Terraria recordings around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: it loops uploaded videos or playlists, rather than broadcasting a live camera or running your interactive game session. You upload a recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
