Verifying a Brand Account does not by itself guarantee that the channel can go live. YouTube phone-verifies a channel, and the channel you intend to stream from must show live streaming as available in its own YouTube Studio settings. Check the selected channel, the verifier’s role, recent live-stream restrictions, and—if you’re using the mobile app—mobile-specific requirements.
Why verification may not have enabled live streaming
YouTube’s phone-verification process applies to a channel, not simply to the Google Account you use to sign in. YouTube lists live streaming among the features unlocked by channel phone verification, but you still need to confirm that the correct channel is selected and that its Studio feature eligibility shows live streaming as available. YouTube Help: See & unlock features with phone verification
A Brand Account is relevant because it affects who can complete phone verification. It does not replace checking the channel’s own feature status.
Check the correct channel and its feature eligibility
- On a computer, open YouTube Studio and confirm that the selected channel is the Brand Account channel you want to stream from. One Google login can have access to more than one channel, so check the channel identity rather than relying on the signed-in email alone.
- In Studio, open Settings > Channel > Features (also described as Feature eligibility in some interface versions). Find the live-streaming status. Labels can vary slightly by locale or UI revision. YouTube’s help identifies this area as the place to review available features and access phone verification. YouTube Help: See & unlock features with phone verification
- If Studio offers phone verification, use the option shown there and follow the on-screen instructions. Afterwards, return to the same channel’s feature eligibility and check whether live streaming is listed as available.
Make sure the person verifying has the right role
YouTube says a Brand Account’s owner or manager can verify a phone number for its channel. For a channel that is not a Brand Account, only the channel owner can do so; managers, editors, and viewers cannot complete that verification. If verification was attempted by someone without the permitted role, have an eligible person perform it for the intended channel. YouTube Help: See & unlock features with phone verification

Check for a recent live-stream restriction
YouTube’s general live-streaming eligibility guidance requires verification and says the channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If the channel has a recent restriction, phone verification alone will not satisfy that condition. Review the channel’s notices and restriction history; if you cannot tell whether a restriction applies, use YouTube’s channel-specific support or help options. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
Apply the extra rules only if you’re streaming from mobile
The mobile app has additional eligibility conditions. YouTube currently requires at least 50 subscribers for mobile live streaming, alongside channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions within the prior 90 days. The subscriber threshold is mobile-specific; do not treat it as a general requirement for streaming by webcam or encoder. YouTube Help: Create a mobile live stream

After live streaming is turned on, YouTube says a first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available. If you enabled the feature recently, wait for that activation window before concluding that mobile access is still blocked. YouTube Help: Create a mobile live stream
Troubleshoot based on what you see
| What you find | What to do |
|---|---|
| The wrong channel is selected in Studio | Switch to the intended Brand Account channel, then check its feature eligibility and verification status. |
| Studio still offers phone verification | Confirm that the person completing verification has an allowed role, then use the verification flow in that channel’s Studio settings. |
| Live streaming is unavailable and the channel had a recent restriction | Account for YouTube’s requirement of no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Verification does not remove this separate eligibility condition. |
| Webcam or encoder access works, but mobile does not | Check the mobile-specific subscriber requirement and, for a first mobile stream after activation, allow up to 24 hours. |
| Studio shows live streaming available, but starting a stream still fails | Record the exact error, confirm the selected channel and streaming method, and capture the channel’s displayed feature status. YouTube’s general public instructions do not identify one universal fix for an account-specific failure; seek channel-specific support with those details. |
