YouTube Live Streaming Eligibility After Changing Your Channel Country

A channel country change is not listed as a reason to lose ordinary YouTube live-streaming eligibility. Here’s what to check in Studio and how mobile rules differ.

Changing your YouTube channel’s country setting is not listed as a reason that ordinary live-streaming eligibility is removed. YouTube says the channel’s “Country of residence” setting is used for YouTube Partner Program eligibility; its general live-streaming requirements instead call for a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check your channel’s own status in YouTube Studio, since eligibility and restrictions can be account-specific.

First, identify which country setting you changed

YouTube has separate settings that are easy to confuse:

  • Channel “Country of residence”: YouTube says this country or region is used to determine YouTube Partner Program eligibility. That is a monetization rule, not a stated baseline condition for ordinary live streaming. See YouTube’s channel settings guidance.
  • Viewer location: This preference affects recommendations, charts, and news shown to a viewer. YouTube does not describe it as the channel’s country-of-residence setting or as a control for channel live-streaming access. See YouTube’s location settings guidance.

If you are unsure which one you edited, check the channel setting in YouTube Studio before troubleshooting live-stream access.

Check your channel’s live-stream eligibility in Studio

  1. Open YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and check whether live streaming is enabled. YouTube says feature access can depend on verification level; Studio shows the eligibility status for your channel. See YouTube’s feature eligibility guidance.
  2. Confirm that the channel is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. These are YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
  3. If you enabled live streaming for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
  4. Read any notices in Studio and any email from YouTube. Restrictions can follow policy or copyright issues, among other listed circumstances. If a live-streaming restriction is active, do not try to stream through another channel: YouTube treats that as circumvention.

Eligibility depends on how you plan to stream

Method Requirements to check Activation and feature access
Computer webcam or encoder Verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Computer live streaming is an intermediate feature. Check Feature eligibility in Studio for your channel’s access and limits; YouTube says advanced feature access can allow higher daily limits.
Mobile device At least 50 subscribers, verification, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and a supported Android or iOS device. Mobile live streaming must be enabled. A first mobile stream can take up to 24 hours to become available.

Mobile requirements are additional to the general baseline, so a channel that can stream from a computer may not yet meet the mobile threshold. YouTube’s mobile guidance is at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9228390.

If streaming is still unavailable

  • Feature eligibility says live streaming is not enabled: Follow the verification or feature-access steps shown in Studio, then check the status again.
  • You just enabled the feature: Wait up to 24 hours before treating the delay as a continuing problem.
  • You are trying to stream from a phone: Check the 50-subscriber requirement, device support, verification, and the channel’s restriction history.
  • Studio shows a restriction: Read the exact notice and resolve the issue through YouTube’s stated process. Do not use a second channel to evade an active restriction.
  • No restriction is shown, but access still fails: The public requirements cannot reveal a specific channel’s private status. Use the exact message shown in Studio to determine the next step.

YouTube says live streaming may be disabled temporarily or permanently for Community Guidelines or copyright matters and other listed conditions. Its restrictions guidance is at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853834.
