Check a 24/7 Gurbani stream in three places: listen to the source before it reaches OBS, watch OBS’s peak meter and monitor its output, then preview and listen to the YouTube stream itself. These checks catch different problems; a moving meter alone cannot tell you whether the sound is balanced or what viewers actually hear.
Check the audio from source to viewer
- Listen before the encoder. Play the source through its player, mixer, or audio interface and check for distortion, low volume, hum, or an imbalance between channels. If the signal is already faulty here, adjusting OBS’s output fader will not repair the upstream cause. OBS recommends listening early in the device chain, then checking again after the signal reaches OBS through Audio Monitoring. See the OBS audio mixer guide.
- Watch the OBS mixer during representative content. Observe the main colored meter and its peak-hold marker through quiet and loud passages, not just a single moment. The main bar is a peak programme meter. Its separate black, VU-style indicator is an RMS value integrated over 300 ms; it is not an integrated-loudness reading. See OBS’s mixer meter explanation.
- Listen to OBS’s output. In OBS, use Audio Monitoring to send the mix to headphones or another monitor device. Listen to both channels and check for clipping, hum, abrupt level changes, or audio that is too quiet. If only one stereo channel is active, check the channel routing: the assigned channels affect what viewers hear. Use headphones or monitor speakers at a moderate volume.
- Preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Before starting the broadcast, check the preview and listen for clear, present sound. YouTube advises operators to “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality” in its streaming tips.
- Listen to the public stream. Once live, open the watch page on a separate viewer device if possible. This checks the received playback path, not merely the local encoder signal. If viewers report poor audio, YouTube recommends checking the stream in the encoder and the local archive as part of its live-stream troubleshooting guidance.
- Repeat over time. Check representative transitions, including the start and end of source files, playlist changes, and loop seams. In a continuous stream, a file ending or a change in source level can cause silence or a sudden shift. Periodically confirm that audio is still present on the viewer-facing stream.
Understand what the meters can—and cannot—tell you
Peak level and clipping risk
OBS’s main mixer bar shows sample peak level. In digital audio, 0 dBFS is the maximum representable signal level; reaching or exceeding it in the final output can cause distortion. Use the meter to notice peaks and preserve headroom, but do not treat a particular meter zone as a special target for Gurbani programming.
Average loudness is different from peak level
A vocal passage can have safe peaks yet sound much quieter than another section. A peak meter does not show how loud the programme seems over time. Listen across different passages and transitions; where needed, use a loudness meter to compare them over time.
Integrated loudness and true peak require a suitable meter
ITU-R BS.1770-5 specifies an objective programme-loudness algorithm and a method for indicating true-peak level. OBS’s standard mixer documentation describes its built-in meter as a sample-peak meter, not a complete BS.1770 loudness and true-peak analyzer. Do not infer integrated loudness or true peak from the default mixer display. Read the ITU-R BS.1770-5 recommendation for the measurement reference.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There is no established Gurbani-specific LUFS target here
The sources cited here do not establish a Gurbani-specific loudness requirement or an official YouTube live-stream loudness target. Do not treat one LUFS number as a rule. Prioritize clean audio, sensible peak headroom, balanced changes between passages, and a check of the actual YouTube playback.
Choose tools according to the check you need
| Check | What it tells you | What it does not replace |
|---|---|---|
| OBS’s built-in mixer | Sample peaks and a basic local monitoring workflow. | Integrated-loudness or true-peak analysis, or listening to YouTube playback. |
| Loudness Dock for OBS | Momentary, short-term, and integrated loudness, loudness range (LRA), and true peak, according to its listing. | Checking the source and hearing the viewer-facing stream. |
| YouTube preview and separate-device playback | Whether the preview or received stream sounds right at the viewer end. | Detailed loudness measurements or diagnosis of every upstream source issue. |
The OBS Loudness Dock resource page lists compatibility with OBS Studio 28.0 or later. Check the publisher’s page for current compatibility and download details before installing it. These approaches complement one another: a meter measures aspects of the signal, while listening checks how it sounds and playback verifies the delivered stream.
