You can run a 24/7 Bollywood instrumental stream by sending a continuously looping audio-and-video program from FFmpeg to YouTube Live over RTMPS. The encoder command is only one part of the setup: you also need music and visuals cleared for livestream use, a reliable input loop, a suitable upload connection, and a way to recover if FFmpeg or the host stops. This guide shows a practical static-image setup and explains the choices and failure points to check before leaving it on.

Before you start: clear the music and visuals

Use only recordings and visuals you created or have permission to livestream on YouTube in the territories where the stream will be available. Buying a track, finding it online, or calling it instrumental does not grant livestream rights. YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary rights for the live content, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other rights participants; those rights also need to cover any resulting archive.

Keep written records of licenses and permissions. If a rights holder’s license requires your channel to be allowlisted in Content ID, confirm that the allowlisting is in place before broadcasting. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted where required.

Permission to use a recording is also separate from YouTube Partner Program eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policy says monetized content should be original and authentic and identifies highly repetitive or mass-produced content and collections of songs from different artists as examples that may not qualify. A looped instrumental stream is not guaranteed to be monetizable just because you have permission to use its tracks. The policy’s July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content”; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change in that update.

Choose how the program will loop

One pre-rendered audio-and-video file

A single, long program file is the simplest input to operate: prepare the cleared music and visual together, then loop the file. This makes the sequence predictable, but changing tracks means updating the program file and confirming rights for every included recording and visual.

Separate audio and a static image

For a minimal setup, FFmpeg can loop an audio file and generate video frames from a still image. The example below uses this arrangement. Ensure that the image is cleared for the stream and that the audio file is supported by your installed FFmpeg build.

A playlist of separate tracks

A playlist makes rotation easier, but you must decide what happens at every track boundary and when the list ends. Confirm that every track is cleared, test for gaps or abrupt transitions, and arrange for the playlist input to repeat or be replaced before it reaches end-of-file. A playlist is not automatically seamless; files with different formats or properties can also make transitions less predictable.

Get the YouTube Live connection details

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the broadcast you intend to use.
  2. Copy the RTMPS ingestion details and stream key shown for that broadcast. Put them into your local command or a protected configuration, not into a public post, script repository or article. Treat the key like a password; reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
  3. Use the RTMPS endpoint where available. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over a TLS/SSL connection, which encrypts the ingest connection. FFmpeg documents RTMP and RTMPS support, but a particular prebuilt binary may not include every protocol or encoder option; check your installed build before relying on it.

Set resolution, bitrate and keyframes

Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the resolution and frame rate you plan to send, and choose a video bitrate your upload connection can sustain with headroom. YouTube’s video bitrate recommendations vary by resolution and frame rate; do not substitute the audio bitrate for the video bitrate. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 128 Kbps. Start conservatively, then test the actual program and watch Live Control Room’s stream-health messages.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. At 30 frames per second, a two-second interval is 60 frames.
  • Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR). Configure the video encoder’s target and rate-control limits to the bitrate you selected from YouTube’s current table.
  • Codec and protocol: YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 support depending on protocol and use. This example uses H.264 with RTMPS as a broadly practical starting point; check YouTube’s current compatibility guidance and your FFmpeg build for your chosen combination.
  • Connection: Test from the actual streaming host and network. A bitrate that works on a different connection does not establish that this host can sustain it continuously.

Start a static-image stream with FFmpeg

The following is a command template for an audio file looped indefinitely alongside a still image. It is not a validated end-to-end stream recipe: FFmpeg options and protocol support can vary by version and build, so check the installed version and test with your inputs before using it continuously.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "instrumental.mp3"
  -loop 1 -framerate 30 -i "visual.jpg"
  -map 1:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -tune stillimage
  -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
  -b:v "$VIDEO_BITRATE" -minrate "$VIDEO_BITRATE"
  -maxrate "$VIDEO_BITRATE" -bufsize "$VIDEO_BUFFER"
  -pix_fmt yuv420p
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
  -f flv "$YOUTUBE_OUTPUT_URL"

Before running it, replace the example filenames and set VIDEO_BITRATE and VIDEO_BUFFER to appropriate values for your chosen output and encoder configuration. Set YOUTUBE_OUTPUT_URL to the complete output address using the RTMPS server and stream key as provided in Live Control Room; do not publish that value. The 60-frame GOP in this 30-fps example corresponds to YouTube’s recommended two-second keyframe interval. The command’s 128 Kbps audio setting is YouTube’s recommended stereo audio bitrate, not the video bitrate.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

The input order matters: options before an input apply to that input. Here, -stream_loop -1 loops the audio input, while -loop 1 makes the still-image input continue producing video. If FFmpeg reports an unknown option, missing encoder or unsupported protocol, inspect the installed FFmpeg build and adjust the command for it rather than assuming every binary supports the same features. Do not use an actual stream key in examples or shared logs.

Test the stream before leaving it on

  1. Run a representative test using the same type of audio, visual, resolution, frame rate and network you plan to use continuously.
  2. In Live Control Room, confirm that the incoming signal is healthy and that YouTube is receiving the expected resolution and frame rate.
  3. Listen for silence, clipping, gaps at track boundaries and unexpected changes in loudness. Check the visual for the intended aspect ratio, a stable image and any accidental black frames.
  4. Watch stream-health messages during the test. Confirm that the selected bitrate remains sustainable on the actual upload connection rather than relying on a speed test alone.
  5. Test what happens when an input ends, the network drops or FFmpeg exits. Make sure your chosen loop, source replacement and restart plan restore the program rather than leaving the channel offline.

Keep a 24/7 stream recoverable

Continuous operation depends on more than a looping command. Plan for the source reaching end-of-file, a network interruption, FFmpeg exiting, the machine rebooting, disk space running low and YouTube reporting unhealthy ingest. Use a process supervisor or equivalent restart mechanism, retain useful logs, monitor the source and host, and test recovery in a controlled session. A restart mechanism cannot repair an invalid stream key, missing input file, full disk or persistent connection problem, so arrange alerts or checks for those conditions too.

If a complete recording matters, make a local backup instead of relying on YouTube’s archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its warning is explicit: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Storage needs depend on bitrate, codec, resolution and duration; estimate them for your own output and monitor available disk space. YouTube recommends recording a local archive backup.

Common problems and fixes

  • FFmpeg rejects an option or encoder: Your installed build may lack that encoder or use different options. Check the build’s available protocols and encoders, then adapt the command and test again.
  • YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that the full RTMPS output address and stream key are correct, that the key belongs to the selected broadcast, and that the host can reach the ingest endpoint. Keep the key private while checking logs.
  • The signal connects but stream health is poor: Compare the actual resolution, frame rate and video bitrate with YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Lower the video settings if the host’s upload connection cannot sustain them, then repeat a representative test.
  • The image freezes or the stream ends when the music ends: Check that the loop option is applied to the correct input and that the source is valid. For a playlist, define how it repeats or how a replacement source is made available before end-of-file.
  • There are gaps or jumps between tracks: Test each boundary and check file compatibility and playlist ordering. If uninterrupted transitions are essential, consider preparing and testing a single program file rather than assuming a playlist will be seamless.
  • The stream is interrupted despite having a license: Check the match notice and contact the relevant rights holder about the license scope and any required Content ID allowlisting. Keep documentation available; do not assume a license automatically prevents automated interruption.
  • The archive is incomplete or missing: Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if you need a complete copy and monitor the recording destination’s available space.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want to maintain an FFmpeg host and recovery process, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
