To use Streamlabs Cloudbot moderation tools, enable Cloudbot in your Streamlabs dashboard, give it moderator permissions in your channel, then choose a protection preset or configure individual filters in Mod Tools. Set restrictions to fit your chat rules, and review their effects before making them stricter.
Enable Cloudbot and grant moderator permissions
- Sign in at Streamlabs.com and select Cloudbot from the left navigation.
- Enable Cloudbot.
- Grant it moderator permissions on the platform where you stream. For Twitch or Kick, open your channel chat, enter
/mod Streamlabs, and submit the command. For YouTube, open YouTube Studio, go to Settings, then Community, and add Streamlabs as a moderator. - Return to Cloudbot and open Mod Tools.
Cloudbot needs the appropriate moderator permissions to speak in chat and remove messages. The official setup guide documents the permission steps above for Twitch, Kick, and YouTube; it does not establish that every feature works identically across platforms.
Choose a preset or configure filters individually
In Mod Tools, select a Protection Level preset for a quick start, or leave the preset off and toggle the protections you want individually. Use the plus control beside a tool to adjust its settings. The question-mark control beside a protection level explains the settings included in that level.

The recommendation for Medium is Streamlabs’ guidance, not an independently measured result. The official guides do not publish filter accuracy rates, false-positive figures, or universal settings that suit every channel. If ordinary conversation is being caught, reduce the relevant restriction or adjust its threshold rather than assuming the preset is right for your community.

Match each protection to the chat problem
- Caps Protection: Limits messages written in all caps.
- Symbol Protection: Limits messages with too many symbols.
- Link Protection: Controls links using allowed and blocked sites, plus viewer permissions.
- Word Protection: Blocks words or phrases on a blacklist. Streamlabs says its default filter catches most offensive language; custom entries can have a chosen punishment, and advanced users can enable a regular-expression option for a blacklist entry.
- Paragraph Protection: Acts on overly long messages and includes a maximum message length setting.
- Emote Protection: Limits messages with excessive emotes.
- Zalgo Protection: Acts on text made difficult to read with Zalgo-style glitchy or combining characters.
Set thresholds, exemptions, and punishments
Caps, Symbols, Emote, and Paragraph Protection share several controls. Depending on the tool, you can set minimum and maximum amounts and a maximum percentage; choose a punishment; decide whether Cloudbot posts a punishment message and customize that response; and use Auto Permit to exempt selected roles, such as subscribers or regulars. Paragraph Protection also has a maximum message length.
What the thresholds mean
Minimum and maximum amounts set quantity boundaries for a message, while maximum percentage limits how much of the message can consist of the restricted content. For caps, for example, a minimum amount can prevent very short messages from triggering the percentage test, while the maximum amount can catch a message with many capital letters. The exact effect depends on the values you choose.

Streamlabs illustrates Caps Protection with a minimum amount of 5, a maximum amount of 10, and a maximum percentage of 45%. These are example values in its guide, not a tested or universal recommendation. Start with thresholds that reflect your written chat rules, observe what gets flagged, and adjust when normal messages are caught or unwanted messages pass through.
Choose a proportionate response
For Word Protection, Streamlabs documents purge, timeout, and ban as available punishments for blacklist entries. Apply consequences according to the severity of the word or phrase and your community rules; the available controls do not establish which policy is right for your channel. For other protections, select the available punishment and decide whether a public response from the bot helps moderators or unnecessarily interrupts chat.

Control links with lists and individual permits
Use Link Protection to allow links from whitelisted sites and block links from blacklisted sites. Viewers otherwise need permission to post links. Role-based Auto Permit can exempt selected roles; moderators can also authorize an individual viewer with !permit <username>. Set Permit Duration to control how long an individual authorization lasts.
For a recurring, trusted destination, a site-level whitelist avoids repeatedly permitting each viewer. Use a blacklist for sites you do not want linked. For a one-off exception, the individual permit command is more targeted. These are configuration choices, not guarantees that every unwanted link will be caught.

Troubleshoot common setup and filter issues
- Cloudbot does not act on chat: Confirm Cloudbot is enabled and that Streamlabs has moderator permissions on the correct channel. On Twitch or Kick, check that
/mod Streamlabswas submitted in that channel’s chat; on YouTube, verify Streamlabs is listed under YouTube Studio Settings > Community. - A filter is not active: Open Cloudbot’s Mod Tools and confirm the intended protection is enabled, either directly or through the selected preset. Use the plus control to inspect its configuration.
- Normal messages are being punished: Review the tool’s minimum and maximum amounts, maximum percentage, and any role exemptions. Make small changes, then observe the chat before tightening further.
- Links from a trusted site are blocked: Check the site’s whitelist and any role or individual permission settings. For a single viewer, a moderator can use
!permit <username>and set the desired Permit Duration. - A word filter is too broad or too narrow: Review the blacklist entry, its selected punishment, and—if enabled—its regular-expression setting. Adjust the entry to match the intended rule.
