The supported route is to send video and audio through a YouTube-compatible encoder configured with your channel’s server URL and stream key. An Android TV box might serve as the playback source in a separate capture-and-encoder setup, but whether that works depends on the exact box, capture path, audio routing, and content protection—and must be tested.
What an Android TV box can—and cannot—do here
YouTube documents encoder-based live streaming, as well as mobile, webcam, and console methods. Its encoder instructions do not describe an Android TV app, a TV-box playlist workflow, or direct casting of podcast episodes into a continuous live broadcast. Treat the box as a possible playback source, not as a verified streaming solution. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the supported setup.
YouTube’s Android live-streaming documentation describes broadcasting a device’s camera view; it does not establish Android TV box support or podcast playlist looping. Its stated requirements—Android Marshmallow (API 23), 720p at 30 Hz, and YouTube app 13.02—apply to that mobile live flow, not to Android TV compatibility. Choose a setup path before buying equipment
Use a separate encoder if you need the Android TV box as the player
The plausible DIY arrangement is Android TV box playback routed into a separate software or hardware encoder, which then sends the broadcast to YouTube. A capture card may be one possible bridge between the box’s output and a computer-based encoder; it is not, by itself, a guaranteed streaming solution. The available YouTube documentation does not verify a particular box, capture card, software combination, audio path, or unattended playlist loop.

- Check that the capture device accepts the box’s output and captures both the required video and audio.
- Confirm the output resolution and frame rate you intend to use are supported across the box, capture device, and encoder.
- Check whether content protection on the source prevents capture. Do not assume that a visible picture on the TV will also be available to an encoder.
- Verify that the playback app can loop the episodes and resume reliably, and test the complete setup unattended before relying on it.
Use a computer or standalone hardware encoder as the documented sending device
YouTube identifies software encoders and standalone hardware encoders as ways to send a live stream. These are the devices that need to maintain the outgoing connection. The Android TV box does not replace that encoder unless a specific, tested device and workflow establish that it can do so.
Prepare the YouTube channel and stream
- Check eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Review YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and use the Live Control Room to create a stream or select one you have already set up. Follow the encoder workflow in YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a broadcast to your stream.
- Configure the encoder. Paste the server URL and stream key into the encoder’s YouTube streaming settings. The precise labels and available video settings depend on the encoder you choose; the cited YouTube instructions do not establish settings for a particular Android TV or capture-card combination.
- Start playback and check the incoming feed. Start the podcast playback and encoder, then confirm the expected picture and audio in the Live Control Room before relying on the broadcast. Test episode transitions, silence, and whether the playlist actually loops.
- End the broadcast deliberately. YouTube’s instruction is: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” Stopping the encoder’s outgoing content ends the stream.
Make continuous playback and archiving realistic
A continuous broadcast requires the sending encoder to keep providing content; the fact that a YouTube broadcast exists does not establish that the Android TV box can run a playlist unattended. Test the full playback-to-encoder chain for interruptions, audio loss, app timeouts, and recovery before leaving it unattended. YouTube’s API documentation discusses continuous broadcasts, but does not establish an Android TV solution for this use case; see the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.

Set archive expectations carefully: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise that a stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be saved as one video. If a single archive matters, plan the broadcast in segments shorter than 12 hours and confirm the result in YouTube Studio.
Clear podcast rights before going live
Only stream episodes and accompanying music or other material you have permission to use on YouTube Live. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If detected content remains, YouTube may replace the stream image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent interruption: the rights owner may also need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and confirm that your permissions cover live use and the intended channel.

Troubleshooting the Android TV-to-YouTube path
The encoder receives no picture or audio
- Confirm that the box is outputting to the input used by the capture device and that the encoder selected the correct capture source.
- Check the audio route separately; a capture path may pass video without the audio you expect.
- Test whether source content protection blocks capture. Compatibility is specific to the box, source, and capture chain.
YouTube does not accept the stream
- Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel and that it meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements.
- Re-copy the server URL and stream key from the correct stream in Live Control Room, and verify that both were entered into the encoder’s YouTube settings.
- Make sure the encoder is actually sending content; YouTube’s workflow depends on the encoder connection.
The stream stops or the playlist does not continue
- Determine whether playback stopped, the encoder stopped sending, or the connection between them failed. Test each part independently, then run the complete setup unattended.
- Verify the playback app’s looping behavior and whether it stays active. The official YouTube documentation does not verify a particular Android TV playlist app for this purpose.
- If YouTube detects third-party content, review the copyright guidance and rights status rather than repeatedly restarting the same material.
The archive is missing or incomplete
Check the broadcast duration first. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams shorter than 12 hours, not a guaranteed single archive for longer streams. For a continuous channel, plan and verify shorter broadcast segments if an archive is needed.
