On a desktop browser, keep the current YouTube video playing and add the videos you want next to the queue: select More > Add to queue beside each video. YouTube says queueing arranges videos to watch next without interrupting the current watch session. It does not guarantee a gapless transition for every radio stream, playlist, device, or account.
Switch playlists from a desktop browser
- Leave the current radio video open and playing.
- Find a video from the playlist you want to hear next.
- Select More beside the video title, then Add to queue. You can also hover over a video and choose Add to queue.
- Repeat for the other videos you want to hear, adding them in the order you prefer. YouTube Help describes this as setting up videos to watch next without interrupting the current watch session. YouTube Help: Queue videos on YouTube (computer)
If you want to move from a radio stream to a playlist, add the particular videos from that playlist that should follow. The documented instructions describe queuing videos; they do not establish that selecting an entire playlist will replace the current stream without interruption.
Keep the queue after closing the browser
A desktop queue is not saved when you close the browser. To keep it, open the queue’s More menu and choose Save to playlist, then select a playlist or create one.
Queue videos on a phone or tablet
YouTube’s current Help instructions say queueing on mobile devices and tablets requires YouTube Premium. While signed in to the Premium account, find a video, open More, then select Play next in queue or Play last in queue. Use the queue’s More menu to save it to a playlist if you want to keep it. Queue or Autoplay: which should you use?

Autoplay is not the same as adding tracks to a queue. Its setting can differ by device. YouTube says Autoplay stops automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity on a mobile network or four hours on Wi-Fi. Listening with the screen off
Background playback is separate from playlist switching. YouTube says background playback in its mobile apps requires YouTube Premium. In the app, the background-play setting offers Always on, Off, or Headphones or external speakers. The last option is a condition for background playback; it does not enable queueing by itself. If playback still gets interrupted
- The current video changes immediately: check that you chose Add to queue on desktop, rather than selecting and opening the next video.
- You cannot find queue controls on mobile: YouTube’s current instructions require Premium for queueing on phones and tablets. Confirm you are signed in to the Premium account.
- The planned queue disappears: save it to a playlist before closing the browser; desktop queues do not persist after the browser closes.
- Autoplay stops or asks whether you are still watching: that is separate from queueing. YouTube describes a “Continue watching?” prompt that may appear before 30 minutes on mobile, 60 minutes on web, or 180 minutes on TV. These are prompt thresholds in YouTube Help, not guaranteed session limits. YouTube Help: Are you still watching?
