For a recurring online radio show, schedule each dated event manually in YouTube Studio, or use the YouTube Live Streaming API to create a separate broadcast for each occurrence. Both approaches can reuse the station’s feed setup; overlapping shows may need separate streams or a deliberate shared-feed configuration.
Does YouTube schedule recurring livestreams automatically?
Not in the documented YouTube Studio scheduling workflow. You can schedule a specific livestream and reuse settings from an earlier event, but you should plan to create a separate scheduled event for each occurrence. Do not treat a recurring series as one broadcast that repeats forever: each occurrence has its own event identity and scheduled time.
For a small schedule that needs human review, use Studio. For a larger calendar or a workflow managed by station software, the YouTube Live Streaming API can create the dated events programmatically.
Schedule each occurrence in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, then open the Manage tab in Live Control Room.
- Choose Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse settings from a previous stream or create new settings.
- Enter the event’s title, date and time, privacy, and other details. Check the scheduled event page, then share it so listeners can find it and set reminders.
- Repeat these steps for every date in the radio show’s schedule.
Reusing settings saves setup work, but check the details that belong to each occurrence—especially its date, time, title, privacy, and audience-facing event page.

Automate a series with the YouTube Live Streaming API
The API separates a broadcast event from the feed sent by the station. Google for Developers defines a broadcast as “an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens”; a stream enables the transmission and defines its settings. In practice, the broadcast is the event/video viewers watch, while the stream is the encoder’s audio-video feed.
For shows at different times
- Configure one YouTube live stream and the station’s encoder to use it.
- Create a distinct broadcast for each dated occurrence, with its own title, future scheduled start time, and privacy status.
- Bind each broadcast to the configured stream, then verify the event metadata and encoder setup for that date.
- Have the API client handle failures, including account broadcast-limit errors, rather than assuming every event was created successfully.
The documented single-encoder pattern reuses one stream for events at different times. A stream can be bound to up to three broadcasts, but that capability does not mean the single-encoder recurring-show pattern is three simultaneous events; the examples for that pattern describe one event live at a time. The API documentation does not establish a universal maximum number of days or months ahead for scheduling. The start time must be in the future and within a range YouTube can reliably schedule.

For overlapping shows or events
- Different simultaneous feeds: Create a distinct stream per broadcast, or a stream per recurring show, and configure the encoder with the appropriate settings.
- The same feed intentionally shown as multiple simultaneous events: The API guide describes binding one stream to multiple live broadcasts. Use this only when the events are meant to carry that same feed.
Choose the design based on whether the shows need independent audio/video feeds or deliberately share one. The right encoder configuration also depends on the station’s automation, audio chain, and any visual slate or video accompanying the radio audio.
Connect and test the station feed
The stream is the feed your station encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports AAC or MP3 audio codecs and recommends choosing settings reliable for the available internet connection, testing with representative content, and monitoring stream health. Confirm that the station automation system’s actual output is compatible with the YouTube stream settings instead of assuming it is.

A stream key is the credential the encoder uses to send the feed to YouTube. Treat it as sensitive; if it is compromised, use YouTube’s documented reset process. Hardware is not automatically required if compatible encoder software or equipment is already available. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but that is not a requirement for scheduling a radio broadcast.
Preflight checklist for every broadcast
- Check the event title, date and time, privacy, and event page.
- Confirm that the event is associated with the intended stream and that the encoder is configured for that feed.
- Set up the encoder event at least two hours ahead and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event, following YouTube’s published general tips.
- Check that the preview appears in Live Control Room before starting the broadcast.
- Test representative station audio and confirm YouTube reports healthy stream status.
- Verify that the channel or watch page is accessible, then monitor audio/video quality during the event.
- After YouTube’s event has stopped, stop the encoder.
These are YouTube’s published operational tips, not a guarantee that a particular station’s equipment or automation will behave the same way.

Choose the workflow that fits your station
| Need | Suitable approach | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| A short schedule with human review | YouTube Studio | Create each dated event and review its event-specific details; reuse stable settings where appropriate. |
| Many scheduled occurrences | YouTube Live Streaming API | Create a distinct broadcast for each occurrence and handle API errors and broadcast limits. |
| Sequential shows using one encoder | Reuse one stream for the dated broadcasts | Each broadcast remains a separate event; the documented recurring pattern has one event live at a time. |
| Simultaneous shows with different feeds | Separate streams or a per-show stream design | Configure the encoder with the settings appropriate to each feed. |
| Simultaneous events carrying the same feed | Bind one stream to multiple broadcasts | Use this only when sharing the same feed is intentional. |
| Higher-production event requiring dedicated encoding hardware | Consider a professional-grade hardware encoder | YouTube describes this as a recommendation for higher production value, not a universal requirement. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the station’s goal is a YouTube channel that keeps playing uploaded radio recordings, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. No computer or home connection has to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Check that an uploaded-video loop suits the station’s programming and rights before using this in place of a live station encoder. Start a free day with StreamNeo.
Copyright and channel eligibility matter
Scheduling an event does not grant rights to the music or other material in the broadcast. Confirm that the station has permission to stream every recording and any accompanying material, and review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream rules before each series begins. Also make sure the channel is eligible to livestream and that its account has no restrictions that would prevent the scheduled event from going live.
