This is the clearest local option when the streams need different audio, content, or event settings. If they are identical simulcasts, first decide whether you need two independently produced streams or simply one feed distributed to multiple destinations.
Choose the right setup for your two streams
Different audio, programming, or event settings
Run two OBS instances: one encoder output per YouTube event. This gives each stream its own destination and lets you configure its audio, visuals, and event settings separately. OBS community guidance recommends using a distinct profile and scene collection for each instance; it is not an official guarantee for every current OBS release, operating system, or launch method, so back up your configurations and test your setup.
The same program on both streams
If both feeds carry the same radio program, clarify whether you need two separate YouTube events or just distribution of one feed to multiple destinations. YouTube describes local and cloud encoder approaches, including cloud distribution as a way to reduce the computer’s workload or simplify delivery to more than two channels. A single-feed relay may not support independently produced radio streams or separate mixes; check the service’s capabilities before choosing it.
Other OBS output options
An OBS multiple-output plugin may suit a production that needs extra destination controls, but plugin compatibility and maintenance vary. The cited OBS forum discussion does not establish a currently supported plugin, compatibility with your OBS version or platform, or whether outputs can use separate scenes or audio. Verify those details with the plugin’s current documentation before relying on it.

Check YouTube eligibility and concurrent-stream limits
Before configuring OBS, confirm that live streaming is enabled for your channel and that no applicable restriction prevents you from going live. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Its Help page, which does not show a publication date, states that the limits apply simultaneously: 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Two streams fit within those caps if you have no other active streams using the same channel or keys. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and limits.
Create and map the two YouTube events
- Create two events: In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a separate live stream event for each radio feed. Give each a distinct title, description, visibility setting, and schedule so listeners can tell them apart. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow for creating a live stream.
- Copy each event’s connection details: For each event, obtain its server URL and stream key in YouTube Studio. Record privately which URL and key belong to which OBS instance. YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s password and address; do not publish or share them. YouTube allows custom keys that can be reused, but use a clear private mapping to avoid sending a feed to the wrong event. See Manage live stream settings.
- Make a separate OBS configuration for each feed: Set up one OBS profile and scene collection for each instance, then back them up. In each instance, configure the intended audio source, visual scene, server URL, and matching key. Avoid editing the same profile or scene collection in both instances at once.
- Check each audio path: If the feeds have different mixes, verify the routing independently. Do not assume that audio heard in one OBS instance is also reaching the other. Check the relevant OBS audio meters and listen to each feed in YouTube’s preview.
- Start the encoders and verify the previews: Start the output from each OBS instance, then wait for the matching event’s preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that each preview shows the intended visuals and audio before starting the public event.
- Test the audience experience: When practical, use private or unlisted events for a rehearsal. Open each watch page and confirm it shows the correct feed. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring audio and video while live; its encoder guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. End each event deliberately in Studio when finished.
Plan for the extra computer and upload workload
Two local outputs mean two encodes and two uploads, in addition to OBS compositing, audio processing, and other applications. YouTube says local encoding can process multiple simultaneous streams on the computer and emphasizes having sufficient upload speed. It does not establish a universal CPU, GPU, or upload-speed minimum for this exact two-stream setup.

Demand depends on your resolution, frame rate, bitrate, encoder preset, source complexity, audio, and connection overhead. Test both feeds together at the settings you intend to use, on the computer and network you will broadcast from. Leave headroom for connection variation rather than treating a speed-test result as guaranteed sustained upload capacity. During the test and broadcast, monitor OBS for dropped frames or encoder overload and check both YouTube previews for audio interruptions or degraded video. YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms compares local and cloud encoding approaches.
Troubleshoot common two-stream problems
- One event never receives a signal: Check that the OBS instance uses that event’s server URL and key, that the event is open for an encoder connection, and that live streaming is enabled for the channel. Compare the private event-to-instance mapping; a swapped key can send the wrong feed to the wrong event.
- Both streams play the same audio unexpectedly: Inspect the audio sources and routing in each instance, then listen to each event’s preview. Each OBS instance needs to capture the mix intended for that stream.
- Video stutters, frames drop, or audio cuts out: Reduce workload by lowering output demands or using a less demanding encoder preset, and check for other applications consuming computer or network resources. Test changes with both outputs running; improving one stream alone does not prove the pair is stable.
- OBS instances interfere with settings: Stop editing shared configurations concurrently. Use separate profiles and scene collections, restore a backup if needed, and verify the launch procedure against your installed OBS release and operating system.
- A plugin output is missing or behaves differently: Confirm that the plugin supports your specific OBS version and platform and follow its current setup documentation. If its compatibility or audio/scene behavior is unclear, use the two-instance method for independent feeds or test another approach before scheduling a long broadcast.
- The streams are mixed up on YouTube: Check each event’s title and watch page, then match its preview against the intended OBS scene and audio. Stop the incorrect output and reconnect it using the correct event details before going live.
