The critical first step is confirming that you have permission for every recording and composition in the program, for live use in the territories you intend to reach, and for any saved replay. A license may not prevent a YouTube interruption unless the relevant rights holder also allowlists your channel in Content ID.
Before anything else: clear the music rights
Do not build or launch the playlist until you know that you may broadcast each track in this format. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. The terms say the provider must have “all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world,” including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses), and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms.
For each track, establish what rights the relevant owners have authorized. A useful working ledger is an organizational aid, not a YouTube form:
- Track title and version, and the owner or authorized licensor of the sound recording.
- Composition and publishing rights, where relevant, and who can grant permission.
- Whether the permission covers a continuous YouTube livestream, not only personal listening, on-demand video, or a one-time event.
- Authorized territories, license term, any monetization conditions, and whether an archived livestream or replay is permitted.
- Any conditions for identifying the channel or obtaining Content ID allowlisting.
Rights depend on the repertoire, countries, and whether YouTube saves the broadcast; platform help pages cannot determine the licenses needed for your particular catalog. Ask the relevant rights holders or authorized licensors for written terms, and seek qualified local legal advice if needed. For a Marathi-language audience in India or abroad, do not assume that permission in one country covers every territory.

Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you; if the material remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast. YouTube also warns that a stream can be interrupted even when you have a license if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Give each relevant rights holder your channel identity and ask them to allowlist it for the agreed use. YouTube’s live-streaming and Content ID guidance explains this risk.
Do not treat “free” music or Creator Music as blanket clearance
A “free” label or credit in the description does not by itself prevent a Content ID claim. YouTube describes music as safe when it is public domain or used with permission from the copyright owner, and recommends checking exactly what a third-party license allows. The Audio Library is another option to review, but confirm that the terms suit your intended continuous live use. Creator Music availability and terms vary by region and track; YouTube’s guidance says its licensed-track revenue-sharing rules apply to eligible videos but exclude live streams. It is not blanket clearance for a 24/7 radio stream. See YouTube’s music copyright guidance and Creator Music guidance.

Check that your channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days to start livestreaming. Live access is required before using mobile, webcam, or an encoder. Check eligibility and follow YouTube’s current setup prompts in YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guide. If live access is unavailable, resolve that with YouTube before setting up the broadcast.
Choose how to keep the program running
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming. For a radio-style program built from recorded Marathi tracks with a visual, an encoder is useful because it sends a prepared audio/video feed. The encoder can be software on a computer; dedicated hardware is optional. Whatever setup you choose, a 24/7 broadcast also needs a plan for monitoring, disconnections, and recovery.

| Method | Useful when | Operational consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder on a computer | You want control over the audio playlist and visual feed, using a device you already have. | The computer, encoder, and network connection must keep working for the broadcast to continue; plan who or what will monitor and restart it. |
| Dedicated encoder hardware | Your production setup calls for a separate encoding device. | It is optional, not a YouTube requirement; choose it based on production needs and arrange monitoring and recovery. |
| Cloud service | You want the program to run without leaving a home computer on. | Check that the service supports your intended YouTube workflow, playlist, and recovery needs. |
YouTube’s guidance does not establish a guaranteed uninterrupted 24-hour architecture for any chosen encoder or connection. Treat continuous operation as an operational design goal, not a promise.
Prepare the playlist, visual, and broadcast details
Assemble only the recordings covered by your permissions. Decide whether the stream will use a static, rights-cleared image or a produced visual, and ensure the visual itself is authorized. Prepare an accurate title, description, and other stream details in YouTube Studio; do not describe the music as licensed or cleared unless that is true. If you intend to leave the replay available, include archive or VOD permission in the rights check rather than assuming live permission covers it.

Start the stream with an encoder
- Enable and verify live access. In your YouTube channel, complete verification and confirm that YouTube permits live streaming. YouTube’s eligibility requirement includes having no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Use YouTube Studio’s current live setup flow; labels may change.
- Create a live stream in YouTube Studio. Enter the stream’s title and other metadata, and select the intended audience and visibility. Choose a controlled or unlisted test first if you do not want the initial check to be publicly discoverable.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder. YouTube describes a stream key as the stream’s password and address. Treat it as a secret: do not publish it, send it to viewers, or reuse a key you believe has been exposed. Use YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions at YouTube encoder settings.
- Configure the audio and visual feed. Select the playlist and authorized visual in the encoder, then confirm that audio is audible and not clipping and that the image is present. Use the encoder’s available output settings and follow YouTube’s current recommendations rather than assuming one bitrate or resolution suits every connection and source.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in YouTube Studio before taking the stream public. Check the watch page on more than one device if practical, and listen for silence, distortion, or an unexpected gap between tracks.
- Publish and monitor. Once the test is satisfactory, start or publish the intended stream. Keep watch for encoder disconnects, silent audio, frozen visuals, YouTube warnings, and Content ID interruptions. Have a person or an appropriate monitoring and recovery arrangement ready.
Test and operate it as a continuous broadcast
A successful preview proves only that the feed is arriving at that moment; it does not prove the stream will survive a full day or a rights check. Before relying on the broadcast, test playlist transitions, the visual, watch-page playback, and the recovery procedure. YouTube recommends checking the preview, accessibility, local archive integrity, and ongoing audio/video quality in its encoder streaming tips.
- Check the live output periodically for silence, volume changes, frozen video, or an encoder that has stopped sending data.
- Keep a copy of the authorized playlist and the relevant license and allowlisting confirmations available to the people operating the channel.
- Decide in advance who will respond to a YouTube warning or interruption and how the stream will be stopped or restored.
- If you record a local archive, verify that it is intact and that the relevant permissions cover retaining or publishing it.
Troubleshooting common launch problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream. | The channel is not verified, or live access is restricted. | Check channel verification and live eligibility in YouTube’s setup flow; the stated eligibility condition includes no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. |
| The encoder is running but YouTube has no preview. | The encoder is not sending to the stream configured in Studio, or the stream key or connection details are wrong. | Compare the encoder’s selected stream key and connection setup with the current YouTube Studio stream. Keep the key private; replace it if exposed. |
| YouTube warns about third-party content or interrupts the stream. | A track or other element matched Content ID, or the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. | Follow the warning, contact the relevant rights holder, verify the license covers this live use and territory, and request Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume attribution or a “free” label resolves a claim. |
| The watch page is live but has no sound or a poor audio mix. | The encoder may be using the wrong audio input or playlist output, or levels may be muted, too low, or distorted. | Listen to YouTube’s preview and the watch page, inspect the encoder’s audio source and meters, and correct the output before treating the stream as ready. |
| The stream stops after launch. | The encoder, computer, network, or service may have disconnected; a rights-related interruption is also possible. | Check YouTube Studio and the encoder status to distinguish a delivery failure from a copyright warning, then restore the feed only after addressing the cause. Plan monitoring and recovery rather than assuming a 24/7 guarantee. |
