To set up YouTube membership-gifting alerts in Streamlabs, connect your YouTube channel, create an Alert Box variation with a gift-specific condition, customize and save it, add the Alert Box to your streaming scene, then test it before going live. Streamlabs documents support for these alerts, but YouTube gifting may not be enabled for every channel; confirm that the feature is available on your channel first.
Before you start
- Connect the YouTube account you use for streaming to Streamlabs.
- Check that membership gifting is enabled for your YouTube channel. Streamlabs’ article, first published May 20, 2022 and last updated September 5, 2025, described gifting as rolling out to a limited number of streamers at the time. It does not establish current eligibility requirements, so Streamlabs alert support alone does not guarantee that gifting is available on your channel. Streamlabs’ membership-gifting guide
- Have a stream scene ready in Streamlabs Desktop, OBS with the Streamlabs plugin, or other streaming software so you can add the Alert Box and check its placement.
Connect YouTube and open the alert settings
- Sign in at streamlabs.com, open the profile menu, and go to Account Settings → Platforms. Use Merge for the platform you want to add, then follow the prompts to connect your YouTube account. - In the Streamlabs dashboard, select Alert Box from the Streaming essentials or left navigation. Open the YouTube alert settings and select Members. In Streamlabs Desktop, confirm YouTube is the selected platform for the relevant alert settings. Streamlabs alert setup guide
Create a gift-specific alert variation
- In the Alert Box settings, select Open Alert Variations, then choose Add A Variation With Custom or Default Settings.
- Open Condition and choose the gift trigger that matches the alert you want. Streamlabs lists these YouTube conditions:
- Membership gift amount is <amount> — trigger for a specified gift amount.
- User gifted at least <amount> members at once — trigger when a gift event reaches a chosen at-once threshold.
- Membership gift level is <levelname> — trigger for a specified membership level.
- Choose the condition deliberately: a threshold can reserve a larger animation or sound for a larger gift, while a level condition can give different membership levels distinct treatments. Save your settings after editing.
Choose what viewers see and hear
Streamlabs’ default gifting behavior identifies the gifter, shows how many memberships were gifted, and generates an alert for each new member. Streamlabs also says Cloudbot automatically alerts chat. You can customize the on-screen alert, including showing one alert for a gifting event rather than one per new member, or displaying the membership level name. These are separate decisions: the condition determines when a variation fires; the alert configuration determines how it appears.
In the YouTube alert editor, adjust the available layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation, duration, and—depending on the alert type—text-to-speech. Preview the design while editing and keep its wording and sound clear enough to distinguish it from ordinary membership or subscription alerts. Streamlabs’ membership-gifting guide
Add the Alert Box to your streaming scene
The alert has to be present in the scene you broadcast; configuring it in the dashboard by itself does not put it on screen.

- Streamlabs Desktop: In Sources, select the plus sign and choose Alert Box.
- OBS with the Streamlabs plugin: Open Streamlabs → Widgets, then add Alert Box.
- Other streaming software: Copy the Alert Box widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard and add it as a browser source.

Test before going live
- Use Test in the dashboard or Test Widgets in Streamlabs Desktop.
- Check the alert in the actual scene: confirm its position, size, animation, sound, duration, and displayed text.
- If you have multiple variations, test the relevant versions so a gift-specific alert is not hidden by another rule or obscured by scene elements.
