In OBS, add the product name and price as a separate source above your demo video in the scene. For a simple, fixed label, use a text source; use a Browser Source when you need custom styling, animation, or content from a web page. Keeping the label separate lets you change the price without editing the demo recording.

Choose a label method

Method Best for What to know
Text source A fixed product name and price Quick to update and does not require a third-party overlay service.
Browser Source with a local HTML file A custom layout, styling, or animation You maintain the HTML file locally. OBS Browser Source can load a local file and provides adjustable viewport dimensions, custom CSS, and frame rate. OBS Browser Source documentation
Browser Source with a URL Page-based content or a hosted overlay Check that the page provides the exact product name and price behavior you need, and consider its dependence on an external service. OBS Browser Source documentation

Add a fixed name and price in OBS

  1. Open the demo scene. Select the scene that contains your demo video, or create a dedicated scene for the live demo.
  2. Add a text source. In the Sources area, add a text source and enter the product name and price, including the correct currency. OBS menu labels can vary by version, so use the text-source option shown in your installed version.
  3. Place the label above the video. In the Sources stack, put the text source above the demo video source so it renders on top. Drag or resize it in the preview to position it within the output frame.
  4. Make it readable. Keep it clear of important product details and use sufficient contrast and size for the smallest screen you expect viewers to use. These are practical design choices, not mandated dimensions.
  5. Keep the sources independent. Leave the label separate from the demo recording so you can change the price or product name without re-editing the video.
  6. Preview before broadcasting. Check the complete scene, including the exact product name, price, and currency, before going live.

Build a custom overlay with Browser Source

Use Browser Source if the label needs a custom web layout, animation, or page-based content. OBS documents loading either a local file or a URL, along with configurable viewport width and height, custom CSS, and a custom frame rate. Its documented defaults are an 800-by-600 viewport and 30 FPS; those are Browser Source defaults, not a requirement for your stream resolution. OBS Browser Source documentation

  1. Prepare the overlay. Create or choose the HTML page that displays the product name and price. If you use a hosted page, confirm it is trustworthy and supports the content you intend to show.
  2. Add a Browser Source to the demo scene. Choose a local file or enter the overlay URL in the source settings.
  3. Set the viewport. Adjust its width and height to fit the intended overlay and stream canvas. The overlay does not need to fill the entire canvas.
  4. Arrange and inspect it. Place the Browser Source above the demo video in the Sources stack, then check its position, readability, and appearance in the preview.
  5. Test any changing content. If the page pulls data from elsewhere or uses animation, confirm the name and price appear correctly before broadcasting.

OBS describes Browser Source as an embedded web browser that can handle custom layout, image, video, and audio tasks. OBS Browser Source documentation

Keep the demo video looping

When the demo is a video file, confirm that its media source has its loop control enabled in your installed OBS version. Keep the product label as a separate source above that media source. The current control name and menu path depend on the installed version; check the source properties rather than assuming a particular label.

Check the scene before YouTube Live

YouTube’s official guidance for its break overlay describes adding that overlay as a Browser Source in the encoder, matching its width and height to the stream resolution, and testing it from Live Control Room. That is a workflow for YouTube’s break overlay, not a requirement for a custom product label. It does support the practical step of previewing and testing an overlay before the broadcast. YouTube Help: add an overlay

  • Verify the displayed name, price, and currency against the product offer.
  • Check that the label does not obscure a feature viewers need to see in the demo.
  • Preview the full scene at the intended output size, not just the label by itself.
  • If using a URL-based Browser Source, confirm the page loads and displays correctly before going live.

Should you use an automated promo widget?

Meld advertises a free YouTube Promo Widget for YouTube Live in OBS through its Spark Plug plugin. Its page says it promotes a latest YouTube upload for 30 seconds, then repeats every 10 minutes. That describes cross-promotion of a YouTube upload, not a general widget for showing arbitrary product names and prices; confirm its current capabilities before considering it for this job.
