A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Use OBS’s Media Source for one supported local media file; use the VLC Video source for a playlist of multiple items. VLC Video requires VLC to be installed, and playlist looping only repeats the items OBS can access—it does not guarantee that a YouTube Live URL will stay available or recover if it expires or the broadcast ends.
If by “YouTube Live store channel” you mean a channel you want to watch or relay, distinguish playback from broadcasting: an OBS source plays media into your scene, while an encoder sends a new broadcast to YouTube. The official OBS guidance documents local media and playlist controls, but does not promise that YouTube watch-page URLs or live playback manifests work as stable playlist entries.
Which OBS source should you choose?
| Your goal | Choose | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Play one supported local media file | Media Source | OBS documents supported media files and playback controls such as looping and restarting. Its documentation does not establish arbitrary YouTube URL support. |
| Queue several media items and play them in sequence | VLC Video | It supports a media playlist, looping, and optional shuffle. VLC must be installed; use the 64-bit VLC version with 64-bit OBS. |
| Create and send your own live broadcast | OBS or another encoder | This is an outgoing broadcast workflow, not a way to turn a YouTube playback URL into a reliable source. |
| Send an HLS feed to YouTube | An HLS-capable encoder configured for YouTube ingest | YouTube’s HLS requirements govern sending a feed to YouTube; they are not instructions for loading a YouTube playback playlist into OBS. |
OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes Media Source and VLC Video on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The page is dated January 11, 2022; interface labels may differ in newer OBS releases, so check the controls shown by your installed version.
Set up one local file with Media Source
- In OBS, add a source to the scene and select Media Source.
- Choose the local media file in the source properties. OBS documents a set of supported media formats; it does not say that any URL pasted into the file field will work.
- Enable the looping control if the file should repeat after it finishes. Use the restart option when you need playback to begin again from the start.
- Keep the source active and visible in the scene while you need playback. Confirm behavior in your OBS version, especially if the source is hidden or a different scene is active.
- Start playback and observe at least one complete cycle before relying on the source for a continuous broadcast.
Build a multi-item playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC before opening OBS. Match the architecture: OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC for the VLC source to appear.
- In OBS, add a source and choose VLC Video. If the option is missing, verify VLC installation and that its bitness matches OBS, then reopen OBS.
- Add the media items to the playlist in the order you want them played. Start with local files if you need predictable, repeatable playback.
- Turn on playlist looping to repeat the queue. Use shuffle only if random order is intended; otherwise leave the playlist in its chosen sequence.
- Test each network or live entry independently. OBS’s documentation establishes playlist controls, not uninterrupted access to a YouTube watch-page URL, a particular live playback URL, or an expiring manifest.
- Leave the source active in the scene and monitor a full playlist cycle. If an entry fails, remove or replace it rather than assuming the playlist will renew an expired URL.
Do not confuse YouTube playback with YouTube ingest
A YouTube Live playback URL is for viewing a broadcast; a stream key is an account credential an encoder uses to send a broadcast to YouTube. YouTube’s HLS setup guidance describes ingest: HLS segments must be 1–4 seconds, use TS format, and be sent in a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; HTTPS POST/PUT is required. YouTube also notes that HLS has higher latency than a continuous RTMP stream because it sends segments.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those are requirements for a configured HLS encoder sending data to YouTube, not playback instructions and not evidence that a YouTube Live manifest can be pasted into OBS/VLC and remain stable. Avoid relying on extracted internal media manifests as permanent playlist entries; their continuing availability is not established by the official guidance.
If you are creating the channel’s own continuous broadcast
YouTube’s encoder guidance identifies OBS among encoder options. Before configuring the outgoing stream, enable live streaming on the channel: YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours and requires a verified channel without live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select an encoder workflow. Set the intended privacy—public, private, or unlisted—in the live-stream settings. YouTube’s stream settings guidance covers these options.
- Copy the stream key from the stream’s settings into OBS’s stream configuration. Treat the key as secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- In OBS, configure the selected YouTube service and stream key, then choose the scene containing your Media Source or VLC Video playlist.
- Start streaming in OBS and check the YouTube control room’s preview and stream status before making the broadcast public. Confirm that the intended video and audio are present.
- Only broadcast media you have the rights and permission to use. The official setup pages do not determine whether a particular video or channel may legally or contractually be rebroadcast.
Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video is missing: install VLC, ensure its 64-bit or 32-bit architecture matches OBS, then restart OBS.
- A playlist item will not play: test the file alone, confirm it is in a supported format, and check that its location is accessible. For network or live URLs, verify the exact URL separately; the official docs do not guarantee YouTube URL compatibility.
- The playlist stops after one pass: enable playlist looping in VLC Video properties and verify the playlist contains the items you expect.
- A YouTube item worked and later stopped: the stream may have ended or its URL/manifest may no longer be valid. Replace it with a stable source you control; looping cannot renew an unavailable network source.
- There is no output on YouTube: distinguish local source playback from outgoing broadcast status. Check the OBS stream configuration and secret key, then confirm the preview and status in YouTube Studio.
- You cannot start a YouTube broadcast: verify live-stream eligibility and first-time activation status; activation can take up to 24 hours.
