You can stream original fairy tales around the clock from a Mac mini by using OBS Studio as the encoder: loop a local story video or playlist, connect OBS to a YouTube Live event with its stream key, and test the feed before making it public. The loop keeps playback repeating; it does not guarantee that the Mac, internet connection, or YouTube feed will stay uninterrupted.
Before you set up the stream
Enable YouTube Live early
Encoder-based streaming requires live-streaming access on your YouTube channel. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your intended launch. Check the current eligibility and setup guidance in YouTube’s live-streaming help and its live-streaming tips.
Prepare the stories and rights
Have the finished video files available on the Mac mini. Make sure you have the rights to every story, narration, music track, image, and other audio or video element in the stream. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance tells creators to ensure their audio and video do not infringe others’ rights. Original stories do not automatically clear third-party music, artwork, or recordings used alongside them.
Check the Mac mini you actually have
OBS lists Intel or Apple Silicon, an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU, and macOS 11 or later among its basic requirements. Meeting them does not guarantee that a particular Mac mini can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate smoothly; that depends on the hardware, output settings, and scene complexity. See the OBS system requirements and test the actual setup before relying on it.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up OBS to repeat a fairy tale video or playlist
- Install OBS Studio. Follow the current macOS steps in the OBS Mac installation guide. Open OBS and create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add one story video. In the scene’s Sources panel, add a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable its Loop option. OBS documents this source and its looping controls in its Media Sources guide.
- Or add a playlist. For a playlist of separate files, add a VLC Video source, select the files in the order you want them played, and check that Loop Playlist is enabled. This OBS source requires VLC to be installed on macOS; confirm the playlist and repeat behavior in the preview before proceeding.
- Fit the story to the canvas. Check that the video fills the intended frame without unwanted cropping, black bars, or obstructed subtitles. Keep the scene as simple as the content allows; more sources and effects add work for the Mac.
- Check audio. Play the source and watch OBS’s audio meters. Confirm narration is audible, music is balanced, and the ending of one file and start of the next do not create an unwanted gap or abrupt level change.
OBS’s Quick Start guide covers the basic scene and source workflow. A preview that looks correct is necessary, but it does not establish that the Mac can sustain the final output settings for a long run.
Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and set its title, description, visibility, audience designation, and other metadata. Choose private or unlisted for the initial test if you do not want the test broadcast publicly visible.
- Copy the stream key. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions explain how to obtain it in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: it identifies where the encoder sends the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not share it, include it in a public screenshot, or expose it in a shared OBS profile.
- Set OBS’s streaming service. In OBS, open Settings, then Stream; choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream key. Use a supported connection protocol and keep the key private. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS among its encoder options; RTMPS encrypts the connection.
- Choose settings your upload can sustain. YouTube’s general encoder guidance includes H.264 video, CBR rate control, and a two-second keyframe interval. It also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 options depending on protocol and configuration. Use the applicable current recommendations in YouTube’s encoder settings to select resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. There is no single bitrate that is right for every resolution and frame rate.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm that the feed appears in Live Control Room. Check the image, narration, audio levels, and stream health before starting or making the event public.
Test bandwidth and continuity before going public
Measure upload capacity, not just download speed
The outgoing stream bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends about 20% more upload capacity than the total stream bitrate as headroom. Follow its streaming tips, and test under conditions similar to the actual broadcast. Other devices or uploads using the same connection can reduce the capacity available to OBS.

A wired Ethernet connection is one reasonable way to reduce dependence on Wi-Fi conditions, but it cannot prevent an ISP outage, router failure, or other interruption. The important check is whether the real connection can sustain the chosen stream settings with headroom.
Run a representative test
- Use the same resolution, frame rate, bitrate, story files, audio, and scene you intend to broadcast.
- Watch Live Control Room’s preview and stream health while the playlist plays and repeats.
- Listen for silence, clipping, uneven levels, or breaks between files, and look for dropped frames or image problems.
- Test long enough to exercise a playlist transition and confirm that looping behaves as intended.
YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and motion to the planned broadcast. A short successful test confirms only that the setup worked during that test; it does not prove unattended 24/7 continuity.

Plan for a real 24/7 run on the Mac mini
OBS looping controls what plays while the encoder is working. It does not itself guarantee delivery to YouTube, restart a broadcast after every network interruption, or keep the Mac mini available through power or software problems. The setup guidance does not establish a Mac-specific sleep-prevention setting for every model and macOS version, so check the behavior of your own system rather than assuming that turning off display sleep prevents system sleep.
- Keep the Mac mini powered and connected to a reliable network; consider how you will notice a power, internet, or software interruption.
- Monitor the stream periodically, including the YouTube event and OBS, and decide in advance who can intervene if playback or delivery stops.
- Do not treat a continuously repeating local file as proof that viewers are receiving an uninterrupted YouTube stream.
- Re-test after changing the Mac, OBS, macOS, source files, scene, network, or output settings.
DIY Mac mini versus a cloud option
The Mac mini and OBS route gives you direct control of local story files and the encoder, but it depends on that Mac, its power, and its internet connection. A cloud service is a different way to keep prerecorded video going without leaving a dedicated home computer running. YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre for streaming prerecorded video without a dedicated PC, but that listing does not establish its current pricing, media limits, or continuity terms; check those directly before choosing it.
