To loop several different pre-recorded videos in OBS, add them as a playlist in a VLC Video source, then leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS’s regular Media Source loops one file at a time; it does not provide the multi-video playlist behavior.
Choose the right OBS source

Loop one video with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene where the video should appear.
- In the Sources dock, click + and choose Media Source.
- Select the local video file in the source properties.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the properties. OBS describes this option as making the file play again after playback completes.
This source is the simple choice when you only need one file to repeat. To rotate through multiple files, use the playlist steps below.
Loop multiple videos with VLC Video
Install VLC and add the source
- Install VLC Media Player if it is not already installed. The VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. For 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, select the scene, then click + in the Sources dock and choose VLC Video.
- Use the source properties to add the video files to its playlist. Arrange them in the order you want them to play.
Set repetition and playback order
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled so playback starts again at the beginning after the last item.
- Turn Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order, or on to randomize playback.
Choose what happens when the source is hidden
Set the VLC source’s Visibility Behaviour to match how your scenes work. You can have playback stop and restart when the source becomes visible, pause and resume, or continue playing while hidden. If the video should stay in sync while you switch scenes, choose the behavior that keeps it playing in the background.
Check the setup before using it
- For a single repeating file, confirm that you added Media Source and enabled Loop.
- For multiple files, confirm that the source is VLC Video, the files appear in its playlist, and Loop Playlist is enabled.
- If the order matters, make sure Shuffle Playlist is off and the playlist is arranged correctly.
- If VLC Video is missing from the source menu, install VLC and restart OBS. Match VLC’s architecture to OBS; OBS’s documentation specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- If playback stops after switching scenes, review Visibility Behaviour and choose whether hidden playback should stop, pause, or continue.
