Why does a YouTube playlist stream disconnect when a Mumbai VPS reboots? Usually, the reboot ends a process that was started manually, or the process starts before networking is ready and then fails to reconnect. The right fix depends on whether your VPS is sending an encoder feed to YouTube or pulling a YouTube stream for playback. First identify that direction, then make the process start under a boot-enabled service and diagnose the relevant logs.
First identify what your VPS is doing
“YouTube playlist stream” can describe two different setups. A VPS might publish an encoder feed to YouTube Live, or it might pull and play a YouTube stream or playlist. Those workflows have different failure points and fixes.
- Publishing: an encoder on the VPS sends video to YouTube, commonly using a stream key. Check the service and encoder logs, then compare them with YouTube Live Control Room’s stream status.
- Pulling or playing: a player or extractor on the VPS reads a YouTube stream or playlist. Check the source URL, installed client and player versions, and the process logs.
Before changing anything, record the exact command, process and service name, Linux distribution, client version, full error message, and time of failure. The VPS being in Mumbai does not, by itself, establish a regional outage, routing problem, or restriction.
Make the process start after every reboot
A command launched in an SSH shell, terminal multiplexer, or one-off background process is not automatically recreated after a system reboot. Run it under a persistent supervisor—typically a system service on Linux—and configure that service to start at boot.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Find the actual launch details. Record the executable, arguments, working directory, service account, required files, and where secrets such as a stream key are stored. Do not put credentials into a publicly readable script or log.
- Configure a service for your system. The exact unit or supervisor configuration depends on your distribution, paths, account, and command. Avoid copying a generic unit without adapting it to those details.
- Enable and start it through the supervisor. Confirm that it is enabled for boot, then start it using the service manager rather than relying on an interactive shell.
- Check its status and logs. Confirm whether it started, whether the command was found, and whether it exited with an error. Inspect entries for the boot when the failure occurred.
- Test during a controlled maintenance window. Reboot the VPS and verify that the service starts and the intended stream resumes. A restart policy for a crashed process is useful, but it does not replace enabling the service at boot.
Handle network readiness and transient outages
A service can start successfully as a process but fail when it tries to reach YouTube or another endpoint. In systemd, network.target is not a promise that the internet connection is usable. The systemd project explains the distinction and the role of network-online.target in its network target guidance.
If the command needs external connectivity immediately, consider ordering it after network-online.target and requesting that target. First verify that your network manager has the corresponding wait-online integration enabled; the meaning of “online” depends on that manager. Waiting can add boot delay, and it still cannot guarantee DNS resolution or access to YouTube. Where possible, configure the client to retry temporary network failures rather than treating the first failed connection as final. The systemd project also emphasizes that well-written software should respond to changing network configuration.

If the VPS publishes an encoder feed
- Check the service logs to determine whether the encoder started, connected, and then stopped—or failed before connecting.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect the stream status or reported error alongside the encoder’s logs.
- If a third-party encoder reports a startup error, YouTube’s live stream troubleshooting guidance says to get a current stream key from Live Control Room and update the encoder. Do this when the error points to a key or startup problem, not as a routine step for a working key.
- If you sign in to YouTube through third-party streaming software without using a stream key, follow YouTube’s direction to that software’s support channel.
Google’s DASH ingestion documentation describes a delivery protocol for YouTube live streams. It is relevant background for encoder integrations, but does not establish that your particular encoder uses DASH.
If the VPS pulls or plays a YouTube stream
- Check whether the player or extractor can still access the source URL or playlist after reboot; review its output for source, authentication, or network errors.
- Check the installed client and player versions against the current documentation for those exact releases. Streamlink’s player documentation notes that VLC versions below 3 cannot play YouTube Live streams; that is a specific compatibility issue, not a general fix for playlists.
- If Streamlink hands a stream to a compatible player, its CLI documentation describes
--player-continuous-httpfor repeatedly opening the stream when the player requests it. Check the option’s current documentation and the player’s compatibility before using it; it helps with certain player-side disconnects, not boot startup. - Make sure the player itself is configured to repeat where repetition is required. A client reconnect option cannot ensure the service starts at boot or make an unavailable source accessible.
Use logs to pinpoint the failure
Collect service-manager status and journal entries for the affected boot, application logs, and any YouTube error or stream-health message. The sequence usually distinguishes the likely stage:

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Service is not enabled, or command is missing: correct the boot configuration, executable path, or environment used by the service.
- Service starts before networking is usable: verify the network manager’s wait-online integration, adjust startup ordering if appropriate, and add client retries.
- Process starts and exits: use its error output to check arguments, permissions, working directory, files, and client compatibility.
- Client remains running but does not reconnect: check the client’s retry behavior and whether the source or network is reachable.
- YouTube reports an encoder, key, or stream-health error: follow the relevant Live Control Room and encoder troubleshooting details rather than changing unrelated service settings.
A reconnect setting can help after a client-side disconnect, but it cannot substitute for boot-time supervision or resolve a rejection by YouTube. Without the command, unit file, client, VPS provider, and exact error, no single cause can be established.
