Start with the exact message beside the Health Indicator in YouTube Live Control Room. A 4K/60 stream can be rejected for different reasons—format or codec, bitrate, audio, or a misdirected stream—and each needs a different fix. Check the encoder’s outgoing settings against YouTube’s 4K/60 guidance, then verify your available upload bandwidth.
Read the Live Control Room error first
YouTube’s Live Dashboard and Live Control Room inspect the incoming stream and show messages by the Health Indicator. The wording helps narrow the cause: documented error categories include incorrect stream format, incorrect bitrate, and incorrect audio settings. Avoid changing several encoder options at once; address the category the message identifies, then test again.

Check the protocol and video codec
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP and RTMPS as supported protocols, with H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as supported video codecs. If Live Control Room reports an incorrect stream format, compare the encoder’s actual outgoing protocol and audio/video codecs with YouTube’s current guidance. The generic error label does not mean every stream must use one particular video codec; check the current encoder table and the specific error together.

Use the stream URL as the encoder destination and enter the stream key associated with the intended YouTube stream. If the feed is reaching the wrong stream or not appearing as expected, verify both values in YouTube Studio and the encoder.
Use the right 4K/60 bitrate and rate control
YouTube’s English encoder-settings page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists these 4K/2160p at 60 fps ingestion rates. They are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a specific encoder, account, connection, or stream will work.

Set rate control to constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends. Make sure the resolution and frame rate are actually 2160p and 60 fps; do not carry over a setting intended for a different resolution, frame rate, or a prerecorded upload. The recommended rate differs by codec, so use the row matching what your encoder sends. YouTube does not establish one codec as universally best for every encoder or channel.

YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Set the encoder’s keyframe interval accordingly, then confirm that the setting is applied to the outgoing live feed.
Make sure upload bandwidth can carry the stream
The connection must sustain the total outgoing bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom between the total stream bitrate and available upload bandwidth. Check outbound/upload speed—not just download speed—and account for both primary and backup streams if you send both. A speed test is only a snapshot; an unstable connection can still interrupt a stream.

YouTube’s streaming tips state: “Have enough bandwidth: The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” If available upload capacity is marginal or inconsistent, reduce the outgoing bitrate or improve the connection before trying another live test.
Treat audio errors as a separate problem
If the Health Indicator points to audio, inspect the audio path instead of changing network settings. YouTube’s error guidance identifies unsupported audio codecs, missing audio, multiple audio streams, channel-count issues, sample rate, and audio bitrate as possible trouble areas. Follow the specific message and compare the encoder’s audio output with the current YouTube encoder settings.

Check resolution detection, stream key, and destination
YouTube uses automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you need to select resolution manually, YouTube says to create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution. Use the matching stream key in the encoder and set the stream URL as its destination. A correct video configuration will not help if the encoder is sending the feed to the wrong destination or stream.

YouTube recommends testing before the event with audio and movement similar to the real stream. Start an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test stream, inspect the Health Indicator and its messages, and confirm that the stream remains stable at the intended resolution and frame rate. Continue monitoring stream health during the actual broadcast so a new warning can be addressed while it is occurring.
One 4K-specific limitation matters for expectations: YouTube says the low-latency option is unavailable for 2160p streams, which use normal latency. If you need low latency, 4K may not meet that requirement on YouTube.

The exact cause of an individual rejection depends on the encoder, its outgoing settings, and the complete Live Control Room message. If these checks do not resolve it, capture the full error and record the encoder model or software, protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, keyframe interval, audio settings, and measured upload speed before seeking support.
