If YouTube has ended your live broadcast, treat recovery as a new-stream setup unless your playout service documents a way to reopen the event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a stream, confirm its stream URL and key, then start the automated playout output and check the preview. Depending on your settings and workflow, you may also need to click Go live.
First, determine whether YouTube ended the event
Stopping the encoder feed ends an encoder stream; YouTube’s scheduled-stream instructions likewise say to click End Stream and stop sending content. If the broadcast is already ended, don’t assume that reconnecting to its previous event will reopen it. Create a new stream or schedule one, then verify the preview and status. This is the safest operational approach based on YouTube’s documented setup flow, not a guarantee about every third-party playout service.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive is separate from a new live session; restarting the broadcast means setting up a stream event and sending a live feed again. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the stream creation and encoder workflow.
Restart the broadcast through YouTube Studio
- Create a new stream or schedule one. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule it. If the earlier stream’s metadata and settings still fit, YouTube offers Reuse settings.
- Verify the connection details. Check the stream URL and stream key for the new stream. The key is the credential that lets the encoder send its feed. If your playout service is configured with a different or stale key, update it before starting output.
- Start the playout output. Start the automated service’s output and watch Live Control Room for the incoming preview. YouTube recommends checking the preview before going live.
- Complete the go-live step for a scheduled event. YouTube’s documented scheduled-stream workflow includes a preview followed by Go live. If auto-start is enabled, starting the encoder can start streaming, but follow the status shown in Live Control Room rather than assuming the event is live.
- Verify the result. Confirm that YouTube shows the broadcast as live and that its watch page is accessible. Monitor the stream; after the event has stopped on YouTube, stop the encoder output as well.
YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains that auto-start and auto-stop let you start or stop streaming from the encoder. Reusing settings also copies those selections, so check them when you reuse an earlier setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose the right start path
| Workflow | What starts the broadcast | Manual action |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder auto-start enabled | Starting encoder output can start streaming. | Check Live Control Room to confirm status; a separate approval step may not be needed when the setting is enabled. |
| Scheduled stream workflow | The encoder sends the feed, which appears as a preview. | Check the preview and click Go live when it is ready, unless the configured auto-start workflow handles that step. |
These are distinct workflows, not interchangeable labels for the same action. YouTube documents the auto-start behavior in its settings guidance and the scheduled-stream preview flow in its encoder instructions.
Troubleshoot a feed that will not reconnect
The encoder reports a startup or key error
Open Live Control Room, verify the key for the stream you are trying to start, and paste the correct key into the encoder or playout service. YouTube recommends this check for third-party encoder startup errors. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps.

There is no incoming preview
- Confirm the playout job is actually sending output, not merely queued or paused.
- Compare the service’s configured stream URL and key with the values for the new YouTube stream.
- Check the stream’s auto-start setting and the event status in Live Control Room.
- If the connection uses RTMPS, verify the RTMPS URL and that the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube recommends RTMPS; its RTMPS guidance covers the connection check.
The preview appears, but the event is not live
For a scheduled stream, check whether YouTube is waiting for you to click Go live. An incoming preview shows that the feed reached YouTube; it does not by itself confirm that viewers can watch a live event.
The previous event is still marked ended
Set up a new or scheduled stream rather than repeatedly reconnecting to the ended event, unless your particular playout service explicitly documents another recovery path. YouTube’s public guidance explains YouTube’s stream and encoder workflow, but not the retry button, job state, or restart policy of an unnamed third-party service. Consult that service’s documentation or support for its controls.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is continuous YouTube playback rather than managing encoder recovery yourself, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live from the cloud. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos and YouTube streams, not camera broadcasts. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.
