Yes—if you use OBS only to send a continuous loop of prerecorded files to YouTube Live. Gyre uploads and streams those files from its cloud, so your computer and home internet connection do not have to carry the broadcast. It is not established as a full replacement for OBS when you need local scenes, camera inputs, graphics, or other live-production controls.
What “replace OBS” means in this case
OBS is a desktop encoder: it sends the production running on your computer to YouTube. For a prerecorded loop, Gyre takes over that source-and-stream role by storing uploaded video files and broadcasting them from its cloud. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as a cloud service for continuous prerecorded streams: YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
The substitution is narrow. If your OBS workflow depends on switching scenes, mixing a camera or other live inputs, or controlling a custom production locally, the available sources do not establish feature-for-feature parity with Gyre. Compare those requirements separately before replacing OBS.
How Gyre’s prerecorded-stream workflow works
- Upload the source videos. Gyre requires the actual video files in its storage. A YouTube URL or an existing YouTube playlist is not enough; even videos already published on your channel need their source files uploaded to Gyre. See Gyre Help Center: How to Prepare Videos for Streaming on Gyre.
- Build a playlist. Arrange the uploaded files for playback. Gyre describes looping the playlist when it reaches the end.
- Connect YouTube. Gyre supports channel authorization through the YouTube API. Its guide also describes manual setup using a YouTube stream key and RTMP address.
- Configure and launch the broadcast. With API authorization, Gyre describes creating a broadcast, binding a stream key, and entering metadata such as title, description, tags, and thumbnail. Then start the stream from Gyre.
With the cloud workflow, Gyre—not your PC—sends the outgoing stream. That removes the need to keep a local encoder and home connection running for this loop. It does not remove the need to prepare the files, configure the YouTube broadcast, or check its status.

Check YouTube eligibility and monetization settings
Channel readiness for API authorization
Gyre’s API guide says the channel must be verified, have live streaming enabled, and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days for the described authorization workflow. Check the current status of your account and YouTube’s guidance before depending on those conditions; account eligibility can change. Gyre’s guide is at Gyre: Full live stream automation via the YouTube API.
Monetization defaults
Gyre says streams created by third-party tools may not automatically receive your usual monetization settings unless YouTube Studio’s option to apply monetization defaults to third-party streams is enabled. Confirm the setting in YouTube Studio if relevant. Using Gyre does not guarantee that a stream will earn revenue.
