There is no evidence-based universal winner among Linux VPS providers for a continuous YouTube playlist stream. The right choice depends first on the stream’s bitrate and monthly outbound data, then on whether the server must encode video or only relay it, and on the provider’s regional transfer terms and recovery controls. If you only need to loop prerecorded videos and do not need Linux root access, a managed cloud broadcaster may be a better fit.
Choose by workload, not by a “best VPS” label
Before comparing plans, write down the stream’s resolution, frame rate, codec, target bitrate, number of simultaneous outputs, and whether the VPS will encode the video or send an already encoded feed. YouTube’s encoder guidance is a starting point for ingest settings, not a guarantee that a VPS can sustain a given stream.
- Relay: The server forwards a prepared stream. This generally needs less compute than encoding, but it still needs a reliable sustained network path and enough outbound transfer.
- Encode or composite: The server converts video, adds overlays, or combines sources. These tasks require more compute than relaying. YouTube’s official encoder material does not establish a universal vCPU or RAM minimum for a VPS.
- Playlist loop: If the content is prerecorded and the goal is simply continuous playback, compare the cost and operational work of a self-managed VPS with a managed playlist broadcaster.
Allow for audio, protocol overhead, restarts, and bursts when estimating data. The stream’s selected bitrate and full runtime—not a provider’s advertised port speed alone—determine whether the plan’s transfer allowance is suitable.
How much bandwidth does a 24/7 YouTube stream need?
Estimate outbound traffic from the actual bitrate. At a constant bitrate, 1 Mbps sustained for 30 days uses about 324 GB of decimal data before overhead. Use this calculation as a planning estimate, then leave headroom and compare it with the provider’s billing units and measurement policy.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Target bitrate | Approximate outbound data in 30 days |
|---|---|
| 3 Mbps | 972 GB |
| 5 Mbps | 1.62 TB |
| 6 Mbps | 1.94 TB |
| 8 Mbps | 2.59 TB |
| 14 Mbps | 4.54 TB |
| 17 Mbps | 5.51 TB |
These estimates use continuous transmission at the listed bitrate for 30 days and decimal units (1 TB = 1,000 GB); they exclude protocol overhead and operational interruptions. For monthly budgeting, calculate with your stream’s actual target bitrate and planned runtime rather than assuming every stream runs at the same rate.
What YouTube settings should the VPS stream use?
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the stream sent to YouTube. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for video; AAC or MP3 for audio; supports up to 60 fps; recommends constant bitrate (CBR); and advises a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its recommended H.264 bitrate examples include 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates for the current table and other resolutions or codecs.

Those are YouTube ingest recommendations, not VPS sizing recommendations. Test with representative motion and audio, and monitor YouTube’s stream health during a test broadcast. Choose the VPS region and network route with the destination ingest in mind, but do not treat a port-speed headline as proof of sustained throughput.
How to compare Linux VPS providers
There is not enough comparable, independently tested evidence to rank global VPS providers by uptime, route quality, CPU performance, or value for this workload. Evaluate the exact plan and region you intend to buy rather than relying on a broad “best” label.

| What to check | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Outbound transfer and billing | What is the monthly quota for this region? How is traffic measured? What are the overage charges, throttling or suspension rules, and fair-use limits? |
| Sustained network capacity | Is the port shared or dedicated? Does the provider permit continuous outbound live media? Is sustained throughput guaranteed, or is only a port headline advertised? |
| Compute and media path | Will the VPS relay or encode? If encoding, what CPU capacity or actual hardware-encoder access is available? Is storage sufficient for the source playlist? |
| Continuity and recovery | Can a supervisor restart the streaming process? Are monitoring and alerts available? What happens during maintenance or reboots, and have you tested recovery? |
| Location and account fit | Does the region offer an acceptable route to YouTube ingest? Can your channel livestream? Are billing currency, tax, support hours, and Linux administration requirements workable? |
Ask the provider to confirm in writing whether continuous outbound live media is allowed and what happens when the transfer quota is exhausted. “Unmetered” and a fast port do not, by themselves, establish an acceptable sustained-transfer policy.

Archive planning for a continuous stream
Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will become one complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the replay matters, schedule shorter sessions and/or keep a local recording backup. See YouTube Help’s live stream archive guidance.
Quick Recap
Common problems and practical fixes
- The stream stops when the transfer allowance is reached: Recheck the plan’s exact monthly quota, overage, throttling, and suspension terms for your region. Recalculate usage from the bitrate and runtime, and lower the bitrate only if it remains appropriate for the video quality you need.
- The connection looks fast but drops or stutters: A port headline does not prove continuous throughput. Ask whether capacity is shared, confirm continuous media streaming is permitted, test the route to YouTube ingest, and monitor stream health with representative audio and motion.
- The server cannot encode smoothly: Determine whether the workflow is encoding, compositing, or only relaying. Encoding and overlays need more compute; YouTube’s settings guide does not prescribe a universal VPS size, so test the chosen workload before relying on it unattended.
- The stream does not resume after a process failure or reboot: Configure process supervision, restart behavior, monitoring, and alerts, then test recovery. A VPS by itself is not an uptime guarantee.
- The expected replay is missing or incomplete: Check the session length. Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured, so use shorter sessions and/or a separate local recording backup when the archive is important.
