For a free setup you control, use OBS Studio and keep the computer and internet connection running. If you want a continuous stream without leaving a computer on, use a cloud service built for prerecorded-video streaming. StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives you a free first day.
Which software should you choose?
The right choice depends less on the music genre than on who is responsible for keeping the broadcast alive. A local encoder gives you direct control and avoids a software fee, but your computer and connection must stay available. A hosted service takes the continuous playback workload off your computer; check its current price, operating terms, and playlist workflow before committing.
| Option | Best for | What is established | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Creators who want uploaded videos to play continuously without a computer running at home | Cloud-based YouTube streaming, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot. StreamNeo | Whether your video files fit the available pooled storage and whether the service fits your workflow. |
| OBS Studio | Creators comfortable running a local computer and managing the broadcast | OBS says it is free and open source, with no watermark or bundled adware. It sends directly to the streaming service. OBS Studio | Your computer’s ability to stay on, internet stability, and how you will keep the playlist or scene playing. |
| Gyre | Creators seeking hosted continuous streaming of prerecorded video | YouTube’s verified encoder directory describes Gyre as cloud-based 24/7 streaming that does not require a dedicated PC. YouTube verified encoder directory | Current price, source formats, uptime terms, and music-rights workflow; these details are not established here. |
| Upstream | Creators looking for a browser-based cloud studio | YouTube’s verified encoder directory describes Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming. YouTube verified encoder directory | Current playlist-looping suitability, price, and uptime terms. |
For hosted alternatives beyond StreamNeo, Gyre and Upstream appear in YouTube’s verified encoder directory, but that listing alone does not establish their current prices, reliability guarantees, or precise fit for an audio-forward study-music playlist. Confirm those details with each provider.
Run a continuous playlist with OBS Studio
YouTube describes an encoder as streaming software or hardware. The normal workflow is to create a live stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder using the YouTube Live server URL and stream key, and start the broadcast. OBS is the straightforward free local option, but it does not remove the need to keep the local setup working.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, start the live-stream enablement process for your channel. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned launch. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Prepare the playlist in OBS. Add the media or playback source you intend to use and configure it to continue through the playlist. Confirm the source actually advances and loops as intended before going live; the reviewed sources do not establish one universal OBS playlist configuration for every media player or workflow.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key (or use an available account connection). If using a custom server setup, enter YouTube’s server URL as well. Keep the key private and avoid showing it in a screen capture.
- Set output to suit your source and connection. Match the output resolution and frame rate to the video you intend to stream rather than upscaling unnecessarily. Choose an encoder bitrate your upload connection can sustain continuously. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance should be checked for current recommended settings for your selected resolution and frame rate. YouTube: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check the YouTube Live Control Room for the incoming signal, preview, and stream health before you leave it unattended.
- Plan how to stop and archive it. End the broadcast from the encoder and YouTube Studio as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer continuous broadcast will produce one unbroken archive. Decide in advance how you will preserve recordings and restart if needed. YouTube: Archive live streams
What makes a local OBS stream suitable for 24/7 use?
- The computer must remain powered, awake, and running OBS and the media playback workflow.
- The internet connection must remain stable. OBS notes that rising dropped-frame counts can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. OBS Help: Dropped frames and general connection issues
- Test the playlist transition, audio level, and stream preview before relying on unattended playback. A short test can reveal a stopped source or connection problem, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot supports the quality you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price; StreamNeo also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. The service streams to YouTube and plays uploaded video rather than going live from a camera. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
Clear music rights before you go live
Choosing an encoder does not grant permission to broadcast the music. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A detected match can lead to a placeholder image, warning, interruption, or termination. YouTube also says licensed third-party content can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

Choose by responsibility, not by promises of uninterrupted uptime
Before settling on a setup, compare the options on four practical questions:
- Must a local computer stay on? OBS requires your local setup to remain available. Cloud services are designed to move that continuous playback off your home computer.
- How does the playlist get supplied and looped? Confirm how your chosen service handles the media files and whether it supports the playback sequence you need.
- Who handles connection and recovery? With OBS, your local network and computer are part of the broadcast chain. For hosted services, check the current service terms and recovery behavior rather than assuming an uptime guarantee.
- What will it cost, and what terms apply? Compare current pricing and service conditions directly. The available information here does not establish current prices or contractual uptime for Gyre or Upstream.
Whichever option you use, rights clearance is a separate requirement from streaming software. Also plan for YouTube’s archive limit: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while a longer broadcast needs a deliberate recording and restart plan if the archive matters to you.

Troubleshoot common continuity problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS shows rising dropped frames | The connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. | Reduce bitrate to a level the connection can sustain and check the network. OBS identifies these as common causes of dropped frames. OBS Help |
| YouTube shows a warning or interrupts the stream | A third-party content match may have been detected; a license without channel allowlisting may not prevent interruption. | Review the rights for every track and contact the rights holder or distributor about Content ID allowlisting where applicable. Do not restart with the same uncleared content and assume the issue is resolved. YouTube Help |
| The stream cannot start on the planned day | Live streaming may not have been enabled early enough for a first broadcast. | Enable live streaming in advance; YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube Help |
| A continuous broadcast does not produce the expected single archive | The stream exceeded 12 hours, beyond YouTube’s stated automatic archive condition. | Do not rely on one uninterrupted archive for a longer stream. Plan recording and restart handling, and confirm YouTube’s current archive behavior before depending on a specific VOD outcome. YouTube Help |
| The music stops or the same section repeats unexpectedly | The local playback source or playlist may not be advancing or looping as intended. | Test the complete playback sequence before the broadcast and monitor the preview after starting. For hosted products, verify playlist and looping controls directly with the provider. |
