2. Castr: use TV playout when the schedule needs live inserts
Castr documents two relevant workflows. Its prerecorded livestream feature can loop a playlist continuously; Castr states that continuous looping is available on Premium and higher. Its separate TV playout product schedules uploaded videos, recordings, and live streams into a channel that can be routed to YouTube. Choose TV playout when you need a rundown that can include live programming, rather than only repeating prerecorded uploads.
Castr Help Center says livestream duration is unlimited for events while the subscription is active and has enough streaming bandwidth. That qualification matters for an always-on channel: the service’s duration statement is conditional, and plan capacities or other limits can change. 3. Restream: a finite playlist, not a perpetual station
Restream’s playlist feature is suited to a scheduled broadcast with a defined end: its help documentation allows up to 40 videos and a total playlist duration of 24 hours. It requires an Upload & Stream add-on tier. Items can be added, removed, or reordered only before the playlist goes live, so prepare and verify the lineup before starting. These documented limits are useful for a single event, but do not describe an indefinitely repeating channel. Plan the YouTube side before you go live
Do not rely on the live stream as your complete archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also warns that DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Clear rights for every file and audio track
You are responsible for the rights needed to broadcast all video and audio in the playlist, including music. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music licensing rights. Review YouTube’s livestream terms before scheduling content.
Test the actual playlist and output
- Confirm that every file is accepted and that combined storage and duration fit the chosen service’s current limits.
- Check that the order, transitions, and behavior at the end of the playlist match your intended schedule.
- Run a test stream to YouTube and verify playback, audio, and the live destination before depending on the channel.
- Keep separate copies of original files and decide how you will provide replays, especially for broadcasts that run longer than 12 hours.
