How to Set Up Recurring Membership Reminders for a 24/7 YouTube Channel

A chatbot timer can post recurring membership invitations in live chat, but activity thresholds and YouTube’s public-live requirements affect whether it posts on a 24/7 channel.

Use a YouTube Live chatbot timer to post a recurring, creator-written membership reminder in your channel’s live chat. YouTube’s own membership notifications are different: they notify members about certain members-only content and events, but they are not a repeating chat prompt for everyone watching a public 24/7 stream.

Set up a recurring reminder with StreamElements

StreamElements documents a YouTube Live chatbot and configurable timers. The reminder is a chat message from the bot, so it depends on the bot being able to join the public live stream and on the timer’s conditions being met.

  1. Connect the chatbot and grant moderator access. Follow StreamElements’ YouTube chatbot setup instructions. StreamElements says the stream must be public and live for its bot to join, and directs creators to add StreamElements as a moderator in YouTube Studio.
  2. Create a timer. In the StreamElements chatbot timer dashboard, add a timer, give it a concise name, write the response message, set the online interval in minutes, and activate it. See StreamElements’ timer settings and chatbot setup documentation.
  3. Choose whether chat activity is required. Review the timer’s chat-lines threshold and other conditions. StreamElements can require a number of messages during the last five minutes, a safeguard against posting when chat is quiet. On a 24/7 channel, low-activity hours may prevent a timer from posting even after its interval has elapsed.
  4. Test it during a public live broadcast. Check that the bot has joined and that the reminder appears in chat. StreamElements notes that YouTube’s Top chat can hide bot messages; use Live chat when checking the setup.
  5. Keep the message accurate and low-pressure. Make clear that membership is optional. Mention only a perk the channel actually offers, and do not imply that joining changes access to a public stream unless the channel has configured that change.

Why a timer may not post on a 24/7 channel

The interval is not necessarily a promise that a message will appear at that exact cadence. A minimum-chat-lines threshold or another timer condition can prevent it from firing. That matters especially during quiet hours on a continuous stream: check the timer against actual chat activity and adjust its threshold so it does not remain silent unnecessarily or post too often when chat becomes busy. StreamElements describes the threshold and timer conditions in its timer documentation.

  • No bot message at all: Confirm the stream is public and live, the bot is configured as a moderator, and the timer is active.
  • It posts at busy times but not quiet times: Check whether the recent-chat-lines requirement was met and tune the threshold for your channel’s normal activity.
  • The bot message seems missing: Switch YouTube chat from Top chat to Live chat while testing; Top chat may hide bot messages.

How YouTube’s built-in membership notices differ

YouTube’s member notifications are not a substitute for a recurring creator-authored live-chat reminder. According to YouTube’s membership-benefits guidance, members may receive notifications or email when a channel creates a members-only post, uploads a members-only video, starts a members-only live stream, or schedules one that will begin in 30 minutes. Members can change their notification preferences. These notices concern members-only content or events; they are not a repeating prompt in a public stream’s chat.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

YouTube also provides a members-only live-chat setting for a public live stream: the public can still watch, but only members can post in chat. That is a chat-access control, not a reminder timer. Creators can manage this through YouTube Studio’s Memberships settings; see YouTube’s membership levels and perks guidance.

For an event-based promotion, YouTube documents a transition from a public live stream to a members-only stream with a countdown and viewer notification. This is a workflow scheduled while already live, not a recurring timer; YouTube says a members-only stream cannot be scheduled in advance as such. See YouTube’s instructions for live streaming to members only.

Review membership activity and choose a fallback

YouTube Studio’s Memberships tab and Analytics help creators manage and measure their membership program. YouTube says a creator is not notified when someone joins while the creator is offline; membership information can be reviewed in the Memberships tab. Details are in YouTube’s membership analytics and management guidance.

Nightbot is another documented option for YouTube timers. Its General Setup documentation says its YouTube bot joins only when the channel is live and public, and that timer intervals and chat-line requirements can be configured. Whichever bot you use, verify the reminder on your channel: neither option’s documentation establishes that a timer will post in every continuous-stream configuration.
