Sometimes—but there is no universal monthly-cost winner. An Intel N100 mini PC has an upfront purchase price and uses electricity; cloud gaming avoids that hardware purchase but charges a recurring plan fee, may limit playtime, and may not include every game you want. Compare both over the same ownership period, with your local prices, electricity tariff, games, and expected hours of play.
Compare the full cost, not just the monthly bill
For a fair comparison, use the same time window and roughly the same play hours. Count only costs that are actually attributable to gaming: if you already pay for broadband, for example, do not charge the whole bill to cloud gaming unless that choice makes your internet service more expensive.

Use these monthly-cost formulas
Monthly mini PC cost = (purchase price + one-time setup costs) ÷ ownership months + monthly electricity + monthly game cost.
Monthly cloud cost = plan fee + extra-hour charges + monthly cost of games outside the plan.

Use a consistent method for game costs. If a game purchase lasts beyond one month, either charge its full price in the month you buy it or spread it over the same ownership period in both comparisons; do not quietly omit it from one side.
Estimate electricity from watts
Convert the average whole-system draw to energy, then apply your local electricity rate:
Energy in kWh = average watts ÷ 1,000 × hours used.

As an illustration only, an assumed 20 W average for 120 gaming hours uses 2.4 kWh. At an assumed $0.20 per kWh, that would cost $0.48 for those hours. Neither figure is a quoted tariff or a measured N100 cloud-streaming result. Use your own tariff and, if possible, a plug-in power meter to measure your complete setup.

What the N100 power measurements do—and do not—tell you
The processor’s power rating is not the wall draw of a complete mini PC. Beelink identifies its Mini S12 Pro as an Intel N100 system with a maximum turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz, but that product information is not a measurement of the system’s electricity use. These are test-specific figures from that review unit, not guarantees for every N100 mini PC, display, operating system, or workload. In its 2023 Mini S12 Pro review, Notebookcheck described its CPU and GPU performance as limited and said the system suits basic HTPC use and light browsing better than demanding workloads. A low electricity cost does not mean the N100 will run every demanding game acceptably.
Cloud plan limits and network requirements matter
Xbox Cloud Gaming: check the terms in your market
On September 3, 2026, Xbox announced that beginning in November 2026, Game Pass cloud-play allowances would be 5 hours per month on Essential, 10 on Premium, and 15 on Ultimate. Xbox said additional cloud playtime would be purchasable, but the announcement did not give its price or detailed purchase options. Xbox also said it expected the announced hour-limit change to affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. These are Xbox’s published figures and expectations, not independent measurements. Read the Xbox announcement dated September 3, 2026 and check the live plan terms for your country before calculating your bill.
Do not treat older Xbox prices or descriptions of unlimited cloud hours as current October 2026 terms. Xbox’s December 2025 guide gave historical US examples of Essential “as low as $10/month” and Premium at $14.99/month, but those figures predate the announced allowance change. The current US cloud-gaming page available on October 3, 2026 showed price placeholders rather than regular prices. The December 2025 Xbox guide is historical context, not a current quote; consult the Xbox Cloud Gaming page and your regional plan checkout for current terms.

Xbox says cloud play requires a supported device, supported game and region, and compatible input. Its page lists at least 10 Mbps download speed and notes that some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. A speed test alone does not establish that a particular game, device, or region is supported.
GeForce NOW has different requirements and comparison points
NVIDIA lists 25 Mbps for 1080p at 60 frames per second and 40 Mbps for 4K at 60 frames per second, recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and specifies less than 80 ms network latency to an NVIDIA data center. See the GeForce NOW system requirements. Those requirements do not establish a subscription-price comparison with Xbox: check local pricing, playtime limits, resolution tier, catalog availability, and game-ownership requirements for the plan you would actually use.

After estimating each option’s monthly recurring costs, compare the mini PC’s upfront cost against the cloud cost it could replace. When cloud gaming costs more per month than the mini PC’s electricity and other recurring PC costs, a simple estimate is:

Break-even months = one-time PC and setup cost ÷ (cloud monthly cost − PC monthly electricity and other recurring costs).
This estimate only makes sense when the difference in parentheses is positive. It is a planning tool, not a promise: it assumes costs stay constant and that both options give you comparable access to the games and hours you want. Add game purchases and any additional cloud hours before interpreting the result. If the PC will also be used for work or everyday computing, decide how to allocate its purchase price rather than automatically charging all of it to gaming.
Choose based on the games and use you actually want
- An N100 may make sense if you need an inexpensive general-purpose mini PC anyway, your target games are suitable for its limited CPU and GPU performance, and the hardware cost spread over your expected ownership period compares favorably with the cloud fees you would otherwise pay.
- Cloud gaming may make sense if avoiding a gaming-PC purchase matters more than a recurring fee, your connection and region are supported, and the plan provides enough hours and access to the games you want.
- Neither is a clean cost win if the comparison gives the mini PC unlimited hours but ignores its purchase and games, or gives cloud gaming a flat monthly fee while ignoring hour limits, extra charges, and games outside the catalog.
There is not enough established here to name a current local N100 purchase price, a regular October 2026 Xbox price for every market, an Xbox extra-hour price, or your electricity tariff. Put the prices from your own market into the formulas instead of relying on a universal savings claim.
