How a continuous YouTube Live playlist works
You need two connected pieces: a playlist that supplies the videos in order, and an encoder that sends their audio and video to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. The encoder connects to a YouTube stream using its server URL and stream key; YouTube presents the incoming feed as a live broadcast. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
In YouTube’s API terminology, a broadcast is the event or video viewers watch, while a stream carries the audio-video feed. Keeping that distinction in mind helps when setting up a simple continuous feed or automating multiple events. Google’s guide to broadcasts and streams.
Set up a continuous playlist with an encoder
- Enable live streaming. Sign in to the YouTube account that will host the channel’s live feed and complete YouTube’s live-streaming enablement steps. For a first-time setup, YouTube says enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do this before the intended launch. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Choose a playlist-capable encoder. YouTube lists OBS Studio as open-source software available at no charge. The encoder must be able to play your chosen files in sequence and keep sending their audio and video as one feed. YouTube’s encoder list does not specify how to configure a Telugu-file playlist in OBS, so check the encoder’s own current documentation for playlist controls and supported file formats.
- Prepare the media. Put the videos in the intended order, check that the encoder can open each file, and confirm that Telugu audio and any on-screen Telugu text render correctly. Test the transition between files: a playlist that plays one file successfully may still fail when it advances to the next. Check that you have rights to every video and audio asset before rebroadcasting it.
- Create or select the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, set up the live stream and obtain its server URL and stream key using the encoder connection workflow in YouTube Help. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream.
- Connect the encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder’s YouTube streaming settings. Configure its playlist using the encoder’s supported workflow, then set output options that are compatible with both the source files and YouTube’s current encoder guidance. The sources here do not establish specific bitrate, resolution, frame-rate, or keyframe values for this particular setup; don’t assume one preset suits every file or connection.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and inspect YouTube’s preview. Check picture, Telugu audio, synchronization, any subtitles or text, and the stream’s status. Confirm that the playlist advances to the next file as expected before leaving it unattended.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Start the live broadcast through YouTube Studio or the encoder workflow you selected. Keep the encoder computer, its media files, and its network connection available for the duration of a self-hosted stream. Check the feed and playlist transitions periodically, especially after changes to files or encoder settings.
Choose local encoding or cloud hosting
With a local encoder, you control the files and playlist on your own computer, but the computer, storage, encoder and internet connection must remain available. A hosted service can remove the need for a dedicated computer at home, but check its playlist controls, supported files, recovery behavior, storage, price and service terms before relying on it.

Advanced option: automate broadcasts with the YouTube API
For developers managing recurring events, the YouTube Live Streaming API separates the broadcast lifecycle from the stream carrying the feed. Its documentation describes reusing a stream for recurring broadcasts, including a 24/7 broadcast that remains live while another broadcast is started and ended using the same stream. This is an event-management pattern, not a requirement for a single playlist feed, and the API does not itself play media files. Your encoder or media system still has to supply the audio-video feed. Protocol and archive considerations
A basic encoder playlist does not need HLS unless your chosen encoder or workflow requires it. YouTube’s HLS instructions specify transport-stream segments between 1 and 4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; YouTube also says HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Follow those requirements only when configuring an HLS workflow. See YouTube’s HLS setup instructions.
YouTube’s encoder help says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on that rule to produce one automatic archive of a 24/7 stream that runs longer than 12 hours. If you need a recording, plan a separate recording or divide the programming into shorter broadcasts, and verify the resulting archive in YouTube Studio.

Troubleshooting a continuous playlist
- YouTube does not show an incoming feed: check that live streaming is enabled, the correct server URL and stream key are entered, and the encoder is actually sending. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- The stream connects but a video has no picture or sound: verify that the encoder supports the file and its audio/video tracks. Test that exact file in the encoder before adding it to a long playlist.
- The playlist stops at a file boundary: check the playlist order, file paths and encoder behavior when a file ends. Test every transition rather than assuming a successful first video proves the full playlist works.
- Telugu text or audio is wrong: inspect the actual preview for font rendering, subtitles, language tracks and audio selection. The YouTube connection procedure does not establish how a particular encoder handles Telugu media.
- The feed stops when nobody is at the computer: on a local setup, check whether the computer slept, the encoder closed, the media drive disconnected or the network dropped. A hosted setup avoids depending on a home computer, but check the provider’s recovery and monitoring features.
- The live session does not produce the archive you expected: distinguish a stream that is still live from a completed broadcast, and account for YouTube’s stated automatic-archive rule for streams under 12 hours.
Before leaving any playlist unattended, protect the stream key, preview the feed and verify that each file transition works. YouTube’s copyright safety checklist can help organize rights checks for the videos and audio you plan to use.
