That makes the playlist start again after its final file, but OBS does not promise seamless transitions at every file boundary. First identify whether the black frame appears between playlist items or during a scene change; those are different problems.
Set up a looping lecture playlist in OBS
- In your OBS scene, click the + in the Sources dock and add VLC Video. Give the source a name if prompted.
- In the source properties, add your lecture files to the playlist. Arrange them in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled to restart the sequence after the last file. OBS documents this setting as On by default.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist disabled if lectures should play in sequence. OBS documents it as Off by default.
- Check Visibility Behaviour and choose what should happen when the source is hidden. OBS documents the choices as continuing, pausing, or stopping when hidden; the default is Stop when not visible, restart when visible.
VLC Video requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video is missing from the source list, check that the matching VLC installation is present.
Identify when the black frame appears
Between two files in the playlist
Try VLC Video with Loop Playlist enabled. A user in the OBS forum reported that this stopped a blink in their setup, but neither the official guide nor that report establishes a universal gap-free handoff. If a blank frame remains, the available guidance does not identify a single cause; file encoding, end frames, and computer performance have not been established as explanations.
During a scene switch or fade
Check the source’s activation and visibility behavior. In one OBS forum discussion about a black frame during a scene fade, a respondent suggested that restarting a source when it becomes active could leave it black until playback starts, and proposed turning off that restart behavior for the source being transitioned to. Treat this as a troubleshooting possibility for scene changes, not as a general explanation for playlist gaps.

When the VLC Video source is unavailable
Install VLC with the same architecture as OBS. In particular, OBS’s guide specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
Choose the right OBS source

Use VLC Video for multiple recordings. Media Source is the built-in option for a single file; its per-file loop setting is not a substitute for a multi-file playlist.
