It can be part of a 24/7 YouTube radio setup, but there is no official evidence here that a particular Raspberry Pi model will run one reliably around the clock. Reliability depends on the Pi and its power supply, the encoder workload, your upload connection, and how the system behaves when transmission drops. Test the complete setup under the conditions you plan to use; do not treat a successful start as proof of uninterrupted operation.
What the Pi has to do—and what it cannot control
A Pi running an encoder sends your audio and video to YouTube. That is only one part of the chain: the upload connection must remain usable, YouTube must receive the stream, and you need a way to notice and recover from interruptions. YouTube advises choosing stream quality to suit the internet connection, testing before going live, and monitoring stream health during the event. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming guidance.
The reviewed official guidance does not provide a Pi-specific 24/7 endurance test, verified bitrate ceiling, thermal result, or uptime figure. It also does not certify a particular Pi model or software stack as a YouTube encoder. No model can therefore be recommended here as proven to run continuously.
Configure the stream for the actual workload
For a radio-style broadcast with a static or slowly changing visual, higher video quality may add work without helping viewers much. Pick a modest resolution and bitrate that your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder page lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, H.264, H.265 and AV1, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Its bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec; consult the current table on YouTube’s encoder settings page rather than relying on a fixed figure that may not match your configuration.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. In YouTube’s live setup, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s corresponding fields. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to transmit to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live-control settings and update the encoder.
Preflight the Pi before depending on it
- Match the power supply to the exact Pi model. Raspberry Pi’s getting-started guidance recommends an official power supply suitable for the model. This is sensible setup practice, not a guarantee of uninterrupted power.
- Set the intended stream. Configure the real audio, visual, resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, stream URL, and key—not a lighter placeholder configuration.
- Test under realistic conditions. YouTube Help says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” Run the intended content over the same network and observe stream health. A sustained trial is prudent for an unattended service, but passing a test does not establish future uptime.
- Check recovery behavior. Test what happens if the connection drops or the encoder stops, and decide how you will detect and restart transmission. The official guidance advises monitoring; it does not certify a Pi-specific automatic recovery setup.
- Plan for unattended operation. Confirm that the system starts the encoder as intended after a restart and that you can check it remotely or otherwise notice an interruption. These are operational checks, not guarantees from YouTube or Raspberry Pi.
What happens to a 24-hour archive?
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its published rule does not promise a complete automatic archive for a single 24-hour broadcast. If keeping a full recording matters, plan and test a separate recording workflow rather than assuming the live archive will cover the whole day. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Pi at home or a cloud service?
A Pi gives you local control over the encoder and content pipeline, but it relies on your own hardware, power, and broadband. A hosted service shifts the host out of your home; what it can recover from, support, or cost depends on the provider. YouTube’s live guidance mentions cloud-based tools as an option for continuously streaming prerecorded video, but that does not verify any provider’s features or terms.
For a YouTube-only prerecorded-video stream, StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider: it runs continuously from the cloud, plays uploaded videos, and offers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free. It is not a camera-streaming service.

Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo attempts automatic recovery. The first day is free with no card; after that, the monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.

Keeping a stream online does not grant rights to the audio or visuals it plays. Use material you own or are licensed to broadcast, and check the rights for every track and image in a playlist. YouTube’s copyright enforcement and monetization decisions are separate from whether your encoder works; a technically stable stream can still face claims or restrictions. YouTube also evaluates channels against its monetization policies, including rules relevant to repetitive or reused content. Troubleshooting a stream that will not stay live
- Stream health reports problems: lower the video workload or bitrate to a level the upload connection can sustain, then test again. Follow YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec.
- The stream stops after a local interruption: check power, broadband, and whether the encoder restarted or reconnected. Test this failure mode before leaving the station unattended; a Pi setup is not proven to recover simply because it can start a stream.
- YouTube receives no video: verify that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current key. Keep the key private; replace it if exposed and update the encoder.
- Audio or visuals differ from the test: repeat the test with the actual playlist, movement, and settings. YouTube specifically recommends tests that resemble the event.
- A 24-hour recording is incomplete or absent: do not assume automatic archiving covers a broadcast that long. YouTube’s stated automatic archive rule applies to streams under 12 hours.
