How to Make a YouTube Live Loop from Uploaded Videos in a Playlist

To loop uploaded videos on YouTube Live, use an encoder or cloud service to send a continuous feed; a YouTube playlist alone does not create a live broadcast.

You can’t turn a YouTube playlist directly into a YouTube Live broadcast using a documented native playlist control. To loop uploaded videos during a live stream, send a continuous feed from an encoder on your computer or from a cloud streaming service to YouTube Live. The playlist organizes videos; the encoder or service supplies the live video and audio.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel eligible to live stream. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable it ahead of your planned start. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
  • A continuous video feed: either encoder software or hardware that can play your prerecorded videos in sequence, or a cloud service that sends the feed for you.
  • Access to the source videos as files if your chosen encoder or service requires uploads or local files. A YouTube playlist URL alone is not a documented Live input in the official instructions reviewed here.

YouTube describes an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Choose how to create the looping feed

Use an encoder on your computer or hardware

Choose an encoder that can play the video files in your intended order and repeat them continuously. You remain responsible for keeping the encoder, its source files, and a reliable internet connection running. Confirm the selected encoder’s current playlist, repeat, and unattended-operation controls; those features vary, and YouTube’s general encoder guidance does not establish them for every product.

Use a cloud streaming service

A cloud service can run the prerecorded feed without relying on your home computer staying on. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos, but that listing does not establish current service terms or confirm every playlist-import and repeat control. Check the provider’s current setup and capabilities before relying on them.

Set up the YouTube Live stream

  1. Enable live streaming and verify eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live. If live streaming is not enabled yet, complete YouTube’s channel verification and eligibility steps and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. YouTube says channels must have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
  2. Create or select a stream. In Live Control Room, use the Stream tab to create a new stream or select an existing one. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder or cloud service’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if you believe someone else has obtained it. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  3. Configure the video sequence. Add the prerecorded files in the intended order and enable repeat or looping in the encoder or service if that control is available. Check that the tool can continue from the end of the list to the beginning without stopping. Do not assume the YouTube playlist itself will provide this function to Live.
  4. Connect and preview. Start the encoder or cloud feed and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check both picture and sound before you make the broadcast public or start a scheduled event.
  5. Start the broadcast deliberately. For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room when the preview is ready. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before a scheduled stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. These lead times give you an opportunity to catch setup problems before viewers arrive. See YouTube Help: Live streaming tips.
  6. Monitor and end the stream. Watch Live Control Room’s stream health and check playback, audio, and video during the broadcast. End the broadcast from the appropriate control when finished. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a stream lasting 12 hours or longer will be archived in the same way. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Encoder settings that affect a stable loop

Use the current YouTube encoder settings page for the output resolution and bitrate that suit your source and upload connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported. For RTMP/RTMPS, its guidance lists H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. Settings can change, so verify them against YouTube’s current live encoder settings before configuring the stream.

  • Resolution and bitrate: Match the output to the source and the sustained capacity of the internet connection feeding the encoder. Use YouTube’s current settings table rather than choosing a bitrate by guesswork.
  • Keyframes: Set a two-second interval if your encoder exposes the setting; do not exceed four seconds.
  • Audio and motion: Test a section with the kind of movement and sound present in the actual videos. A static test screen may not reveal problems that appear in full-motion playback.
  • Connection protocol: Select RTMPS when supported by the encoder and stream setup.

Copyright, permissions, and channel rules

Only stream videos and audio you have the rights or permission to broadcast. A video being uploaded to YouTube or included in a playlist does not, by itself, establish that you may rebroadcast it as a live stream. Review the rights for every video, music track, and other included material, and check YouTube’s current live-streaming policies before going live. Replaying your own uploads also does not guarantee monetization or eligibility under YouTube’s channel policies.

Troubleshooting common problems

“Go live” is unavailable or the stream will not start

Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is your first live stream, activation may take up to 24 hours after you enable it.

No preview appears in Live Control Room

Confirm the encoder is running, is sending to the stream URL shown for the selected stream, and has the matching stream key. Check the encoder’s connection status and any error shown in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder with the replacement.

The loop stops at the end of the playlist

Check the encoder or service’s repeat setting and confirm the sequence contains playable source files. YouTube’s playlist is not the live feed, so changing its order or repeat settings will not necessarily change what your encoder sends.

Viewers report buffering or poor picture quality

Check Live Control Room’s stream health, then compare the encoder’s output resolution and bitrate with YouTube’s current recommendations and the connection’s sustained upload capacity. Test with representative motion and audio, not just a still frame.

The broadcast ends after a computer or connection interruption

A computer-based encoder depends on that computer and its connection remaining available. Restore the encoder feed and inspect Live Control Room before restarting or rescheduling the broadcast. If you need the loop to run without a home computer, use a cloud streaming service instead.
