What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If one video sounds much louder than the next in a YouTube Live loop, first find out where the level changes: in the original files, in the audio routed through your encoder, or only in playback. Compare the same playlist transition in the source videos, encoder feed, Live Control Room preview and a local archive; then adjust the source or mix if needed and test the loop before relying on it. YouTube’s guidance does not specify a universal loudness target or compressor setting for playlist transitions.
Find where the audio level changes
Use the same transition between clips to compare each point in the chain. Keep your playback device volume fixed while listening; otherwise a volume change on your device can obscure the diagnosis.
- Play the source videos back-to-back. If the jump is already there, the difference is in the media or playlist mix. Match the source levels in your video or audio preparation workflow.
- Listen to the encoder feed. If the source clips sound even but the encoder feed does not, inspect which audio sources are routed into the encoder and whether any source or mix level changes at the transition.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Compare the same passage with the encoder feed. YouTube recommends previewing a stream before starting and checking stream quality. See YouTube live streaming tips and Streaming tips.
- Review a local archive. If available, listen to a recording of the stream and compare the transition again. YouTube’s live stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder and archive when stream sound is poor.
If the difference appears in the source, fix the source levels. If it first appears in the encoder or stream, investigate the audio routing and encoder condition before changing unrelated settings such as network configuration.
Fix the cause on the creator side
When the source videos have different levels
Match the loudness of the clips in your media-preparation workflow, then export or rebuild the playlist mix and listen across the transitions. The aim is to make adjacent clips sound consistent at the same playback volume; do not assume that matching waveform peaks alone will make different material sound equally loud.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When the encoder or routed mix introduces the change
- Confirm which audio sources are routed into the encoder and whether more than one source is being mixed.
- Check for encoder errors and high CPU load while the stream is running.
- Compare the encoder feed, Live Control Room preview and local archive at the same transition.
- If the stream still sounds bad after checking the source routing, encoder and archive, YouTube advises trying another encoder.
YouTube’s live-stream guidance says to “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality.” Monitor more than one playlist transition, not just the opening clip.
Test the loop before relying on it
- Run a test live stream and preview it before starting the stream for viewers.
- Listen to several transitions in the encoder feed and Live Control Room preview.
- Check a local archive after the test and compare the same passages.
- Continue monitoring audio and video quality during the live stream, especially after changing a source, playlist or encoder routing.
YouTube’s guidance supports testing, previewing and monitoring, but does not prescribe a playlist-specific normalization workflow.

What YouTube’s audio numbers mean
YouTube’s HLS setup guidance recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps audio bitrate for stereo, or 48 kHz and 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround. These are HLS ingestion recommendations, not loudness-normalization settings. Changing sample rate or bitrate will not, by itself, even out source clips that already differ in level.
The cited YouTube guidance does not set an integrated loudness target, true-peak ceiling, compressor ratio, limiter threshold or required normalization method for playlist-video transitions. Avoid treating a particular LUFS or peak value as a YouTube-mandated fix.

What viewers can try
On supported videos, YouTube’s Stable volume setting is on by default and adjusts playback to reduce quiet-to-loud variations. It is not available for every video, and it compensates on the viewer’s playback rather than fixing the source or saved stream. Viewers can toggle it from the video’s Settings menu. Details are in YouTube’s volume controls for computers.
Voice boost is a separate playback option: YouTube says it reduces background sound and highlights vocals. Availability varies, and Stable volume turns off automatically while Voice boost is on. Neither setting is a substitute for correcting uneven levels in the stream itself.
