Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Start with OneStream Live’s OBS preset: 720p (1280 × 720) at 30 FPS, x264, CBR, 3000 kbps video bitrate, a 2-second keyframe interval, 44.1 kHz stereo audio, and the x264 veryfast preset. If OBS shows increasing dropped frames, OneStream says to lower the video bitrate to 2000 kbps or 1500 kbps. These are starting recommendations, not a guarantee that your connection can sustain them; measure upload capacity and leave headroom before going live.
Recommended OBS settings for a constrained connection
OneStream Live’s OBS encoder guidance specifies the following starting configuration for an RTMP stream. In OBS, open Settings → Output and select the Advanced output mode if needed to access the streaming encoder controls. Open Settings → Video for the canvas, output resolution, and frame rate.
| OBS setting | Starting value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder | x264 | OneStream’s published OBS setup uses this encoder. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate avoids large swings in the stream’s video data rate. |
| Output resolution | 1280 × 720 (720p) | A lower-resolution HD target uses less bandwidth than 1080p at comparable encoding settings. |
| Frame rate | 30 FPS maximum | For a low-bandwidth connection, prioritize a stable 30 FPS stream rather than 60 FPS. |
| Video bitrate | 3000 kbps to start | If dropped frames increase, OneStream’s OBS instructions suggest trying 2000 kbps or 1500 kbps. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | Matches OneStream’s encoder guidance and YouTube’s recommended keyframe frequency. |
| Audio | 44.1 kHz, stereo; 128 kbps audio bitrate in OBS | These are the audio values in OneStream’s OBS-specific setup. |
| x264 CPU preset | veryfast |
Use OneStream’s documented preset; actual performance depends on your computer. |
The preset is a place to begin, not a promise about image quality or connection stability. Avoid raising resolution or frame rate until a representative test stream runs without connection problems.
Match the bitrate to your real upload capacity
OneStream advises keeping the video bitrate at no more than half of the available upload speed. Its troubleshooting guidance recommends at least 10 Mbps upload and describes 25 Mbps or higher as ideal; treat these as service guidance, not as a guarantee for a particular home network. The speed available during the stream can vary, so test under conditions similar to the planned broadcast and retain headroom.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s H.264 table recommends 3 Mbps for 720p30 and 8 Mbps for 720p60. The OneStream 3000 kbps starting value therefore matches YouTube’s listed recommendation for 720p30, while 720p60 calls for substantially more bandwidth. YouTube’s table also lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p30, and 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended for 1080p60. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate—not evidence that your connection can deliver them reliably.
For a low-bandwidth channel, choose 720p30 over a higher frame rate or resolution if the faster setting leaves too little upload headroom. If your connection cannot comfortably support the starting bitrate, reduce it and retest rather than assuming the preset will work.

Set up and preflight the stream
- Measure upload speed. Run a speed test when your network is being used as it will be during the broadcast. OneStream recommends checking upload capacity and selecting the server that provides the highest upload speed.
- Apply the OBS preset. In Settings → Output, set x264, CBR, 3000 kbps video bitrate, a 2-second keyframe interval, 128 kbps audio bitrate, and the
veryfastCPU preset. In Settings → Video, set 1280 × 720 output resolution and 30 FPS. Set audio to 44.1 kHz stereo. - Check the headroom. Compare the selected video bitrate with the upload speed available for the stream. Following OneStream’s guidance, keep video bitrate at no more than half of that available upload speed. If you cannot leave that margin, lower the bitrate and, if needed, the resolution or frame rate.
- Run a representative test. Test before the event with audio and movement similar to the real broadcast. YouTube recommends testing in advance; during the event, watch YouTube’s stream health and any messages it displays.
- Adjust one step at a time. If dropped frames increase, try 2000 kbps, then 1500 kbps if needed, as OneStream’s OBS guide suggests. If the stream remains unstable, lower resolution or FPS and test again. Use Ethernet where possible; if that is not practical, OneStream suggests moving closer to the Wi-Fi router.
Diagnose dropped frames and unstable output
| What you see | Likely adjustment |
|---|---|
| OBS dropped frames increase during the broadcast | Lower video bitrate to 2000 kbps or 1500 kbps. If necessary, also reduce resolution or frame rate, then retest. |
| The connection cannot leave the recommended upload headroom | Reduce the video bitrate so it is no more than half of available upload speed; consider reducing resolution or FPS as well. |
| Performance varies over Wi-Fi | Use Ethernet where possible for better stability. Otherwise, try moving closer to the router. |
| The test works, but the real broadcast has more movement or sound | Repeat the preflight using representative content. Check YouTube’s stream health and messages during the event. |
Changing bitrate is not a fix for every possible cause of a bad stream, but it is the first adjustment OneStream specifically recommends when OBS dropped frames rise. Retest after changing settings so you can tell whether the connection is now stable.
