The Eighth Trial of Aql is the quest Footsteps of the Fremen, inside Sietch Ta’lab. Look for its entrance at desert level at the base of the Eastern Shield Wall—not at the elevated map marker. To finish, bring a working Cutteray and blood, answer the Ornate Door’s seven questions, match the ecology glyphs, and connect the Deathstill’s channels across its rotating rings.
Where to find the Eighth Trial entrance
Travel to Sietch Ta’lab, near the borders of Mysa Tarill and Jabal Eifrit Al-Gharb. Search at the foot of the Eastern Shield Wall for a narrow passage marked by a purple emblem. The map marker can make the entrance look as if it is higher up the wall; stay at desert level rather than climbing to the summit. Once inside, follow the main chamber toward the Ornate Door. Other players may be using the entrance, so an unavailable interaction may mean you need to wait.
The location and route are corroborated by Player Atlas, PC Gamer, and Method.gg.
What to bring
- A working Cutteray: rock sections block the route.
- Blood: you need it to activate the Deathstill and to interact with the safe.
- Combat supplies: repaired weapons, ammunition, healing, and water are prudent for the fight on the escape route.
- Inventory space: leave room for rewards and anything you collect in the chamber.
The Cutteray and blood are progression requirements described by the current walkthrough. Combat and survival supplies are preparation for the reported encounter, rather than additional puzzle requirements. The walkthrough was updated 2026-09-28 and says it was checked against Update 1.5.3.4 on 2026-09-24; it is a third-party guide, not an official patch reference.

Use the seven-item sequence: an older PC Gamer guide says there are six questions in its prose but lists seven answers. A wrong response resets the proving, but does not permanently fail the trial; interact with the door again and retry.

How to solve the Deathstill ring puzzle
Make the channels across the three rotating rings form one continuous route from the Deathstill toward the outer path. The visible channel alignment is the solution; no reliable fixed number of turns or clicks is established by the guides.

- Inspect where the channel enters and leaves each ring.
- Start with the inner ring and work outward, rotating each ring until its channel continues the route.
- Check the full route from the Deathstill to the outer path for gaps or misaligned connections.
- When the route is complete, activate the Deathstill with blood.
Method.gg suggests working inside-out but does not confirm turn counts. PC Gamer shows the target configuration without giving a turn-by-turn sequence, so use the visible channels rather than a guessed click count.
Safe, escape fight, and reward
After the mechanism and cinematic, search the secret chamber for the safe. The current walkthrough places it to the left of the central area and says it requires another blood interaction. Reload and heal before leaving: enemies attack during the escape. Clear the room, then follow the exit route.

Completing the trial awards the Fremen Deathstill and other final Journey rewards. PC Gamer describes the Deathstill recipe as allowing players to convert dead bodies into water at their base.
