To stop silence between songs on a 24/7 YouTube radio stream, first find out whether the gap is already in your playlist output or appears later in the encoder-to-YouTube path. If it is in the source, fix playback transitions or the audio files; if the source is continuous, inspect the encoder connection and stream delivery. A 24/7 schedule alone does not guarantee uninterrupted sound.
Find where the silence starts
A song-boundary pause and a dropped stream segment can sound alike to a listener, but they need different fixes. Use this diagnostic split: listen to or record the playlist output before it reaches the encoder, then compare it with the audio being sent and the stream viewers receive. This is a practical way to isolate the fault, not a formal YouTube diagnostic procedure.
- Listen before encoding. Monitor or record the player’s output across several song changes. If the silence is present there, troubleshoot the playlist, player, transition behavior, or files.
- Check the signal at the encoder. If the pre-encoder output is continuous, verify that the encoder is receiving continuous audio and review its status and logs.
- Check the viewer-side stream. If the encoder has uninterrupted audio but viewers hear gaps, investigate the connection and delivery to YouTube, including segment-upload failures where applicable.
Test a full playlist cycle and a deliberately interrupted network connection before relying on an unattended setup. Monitor both the source output and the viewer-side stream, and arrange alerts for silence or encoder/network failure. The sources cited here do not specify a particular silence-detection tool.
Fix gaps in the playlist or audio files
Inspect transitions in the player
Use a playlist or playout method that supports continuous or gapless playback, and check its transition settings for pauses, fades, or other intentional spacing. Do not assume that a playlist labeled “continuous” guarantees gapless output: confirm it by listening to the actual audio signal at song boundaries. The available YouTube and OBS guidance does not establish that a particular OBS playlist configuration guarantees gapless playback.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the ends and starts of tracks
Listen to the tail of one song and the opening of the next. Silence may be part of the recording itself, or an edit may leave a silent tail or head. If so, prepare corrected files or adjust the playout transition while preserving the intended musical ending and opening. Distinguish deliberate pauses or fades from accidental dead air before changing them.
Keep a continuous audio feed going to the encoder
The encoder needs to receive audio throughout the broadcast, not just a schedule or a list of tracks. Verify the signal that actually reaches it, especially during transitions and when a playlist ends or restarts. If silence begins before the encoder, changing YouTube’s ingestion protocol will not repair the source transition.

Check encoder and YouTube delivery when the source is clean
Review connection stability and logs
YouTube’s encoder setup requires the broadcaster to enter the Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. Review the encoder’s connection status and logs when the source audio remains continuous but the stream does not. YouTube’s DASH guide states that a failed media-segment upload corresponds to a gap in the video stream; it recommends retries using randomized binary exponential backoff and signaling the operator when failures repeat. Apply that advice to DASH-based systems, not blindly to other protocols. YouTube’s DASH ingestion guidance describes the segment and retry requirements.
Choose ingestion settings for the protocol, not as a gapless-playback fix
YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide requires muxed audio and video in M2TS, supports H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio, and specifies one audio track. It describes HLS media segments lasting one to four seconds. These are ingestion constraints, not settings that make songs transition without silence. YouTube Help notes that HLS has higher latency than continuous RTMP; select a protocol and settings supported by your encoder and appropriate to your latency needs, rather than expecting a protocol change to fix pauses already present in the playlist. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance.

For DASH, YouTube recommends target segments between one and five seconds as a trade-off between ingestion performance and latency. That recommendation concerns delivery, not the gap between two tracks. If your system uses DASH, check its retry handling and alerts for repeated segment-upload failures against the DASH guide.
Check OBS and scheduled-broadcast behavior
If you use OBS with YouTube, review the current broadcast and reconnect controls. The OBS guide says that auto-stop disables the possibility of reconnecting later to continue that broadcast; with auto-stop disabled, later reconnection is possible. It also cautions that a broadcast can eventually end after multiple hours without input. Confirm how auto-start, auto-stop, reconnects, and prolonged loss of input behave in your own current setup before leaving it unattended. The OBS guide to streaming to YouTube is marked as a work in progress, so interface details may change.

Plan long-running broadcasts and archives separately
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish a maximum livestream duration. If you need archives of a long-running radio broadcast, plan for that requirement separately from keeping the live audio continuous. See YouTube’s encoder setup and live-stream guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep the broadcast recoverable and monitored
“24/7” describes the intended schedule, not proof that audio is reaching viewers continuously. Monitor the source output and the viewer-side stream, and set up alerts for silence or encoder/network failure. Test a complete playlist cycle and a forced network interruption so you can see how your player, encoder, and YouTube event behave under the conditions you expect to encounter.

Continuous playback also depends on a valid broadcast lifecycle. Check the current YouTube and encoder controls for automatic start and stop, reconnect behavior, and what happens after prolonged loss of input. YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not say that longer broadcasts are automatically archived in the same way.
Keep music rights separate from playback continuity
A recording that plays successfully is not necessarily cleared for a livestream. You need rights that cover the music’s use in a public live broadcast; owning a copy or having permission to play it privately does not by itself establish livestream rights. A vendor’s YouTube integration guidance warns that copyright violations may lead YouTube to terminate streams or restrict public broadcasting. Treat music licensing as a separate check from solving audio gaps.
Choose a local or cloud setup based on the failure you need to avoid
A local computer and encoder let you manage the playlist and inspect the machine’s output and logs directly, but continuity depends on the local setup remaining available. A hosted or cloud encoder can keep playout off a home computer, but service continuity, recovery behavior, terms, and monitoring should be evaluated for the specific provider. The cited platform guidance does not provide a verified head-to-head reliability or pricing comparison for these approaches.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo sends the uploaded quality as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded-video playback to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
