Use a YouTube livestream as the channel’s continuous radio destination and a Premiere for a scheduled, shared viewing event such as a launch, new mix, or special program. You can send viewers from an ended livestream to a Premiere with Live Redirect, but a Premiere is not itself a 24/7 broadcast. What a Premiere does—and what it does not do
A Premiere is a scheduled upload that viewers watch together when its countdown ends. Its public watch page is available in advance, so people can share it, set reminders, comment, and chat. After playback, the video remains on the channel as a regular upload. It suits a station launch, new mix, seasonal lineup, guest set, or recorded special—not an ongoing radio feed.
To create one, upload the finished video in YouTube Studio, set its visibility to Public, schedule the date and time, select “Set as Premiere,” and configure the countdown. Shorts cannot be Premieres, and Premiere output above 1080p is not supported. YouTube says scheduling at least 24 hours ahead gives viewers around the world an opportunity to see the thumbnail in their subscriptions feed. A reminder notification is sent about 30 minutes before the Premiere and again when it starts. YouTube’s Premiere instructions cover the creation flow and current options.
Run the 24/7 radio feed as a livestream
For a live radio feed made from prerecorded music or programs, use an encoder workflow: YouTube receives the outgoing audio and video from software or a hardware encoder, while the channel’s scheduled or active livestream provides the watch page. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming; it does not require a particular encoder brand or model.

- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a livestream. Scheduling is useful when you want to promote the watch page in advance.
- Configure the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder. The key functions like a password for the stream, so keep it private. For encrypted transport, select the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room and use it with the stream key.
- Test before relying on the feed. Start with a private or unlisted test if appropriate. Preview in Live Control Room and check sound, picture, watch-page access, and mobile playback. Prepare the encoder in advance, leave upload-bandwidth headroom, monitor stream quality, and test any backup or failover arrangement you have.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Confirm that the encoder is sending to the intended stream and that the public watch page plays correctly. Keep a separate local recording if you need a dependable copy of the full program.
YouTube’s encoder livestream guidance explains the stream URL and key workflow, while its live encoder settings page covers platform recommendations. Use settings appropriate to your encoder and source; the cited workflow does not make a specific bitrate or encoder model mandatory.
Send viewers from the livestream to a Premiere
Live Redirect is a handoff between events. Set up the Premiere first, then select it as the destination for the livestream’s redirect. When the livestream ends, eligible viewers are sent to the Premiere; tell them they may need to wait a few seconds for the player to reload.

- Create and schedule the Premiere, making sure its watch page and start time are correct.
- In YouTube Studio, open the livestream’s Live content settings and edit its customization or redirect setting.
- Choose the Premiere as the redirect destination and save the change.
- Promote the Premiere watch page in the livestream description, channel description, community posts, and pinned chat so viewers know where the special program will appear.
YouTube currently lists more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes as eligibility requirements for sending a Live Redirect. Check the current Live Redirect requirements and setup instructions, since feature interfaces and eligibility can change.
Plan around archive and rewind limits
A single stream lasting 24 hours is not a safe way to guarantee a complete replay. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but a local recording is still the sensible backup when preserving the full broadcast matters. YouTube’s live stream archive guidance explains the limit and recommends keeping a local archive.

DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a livestream, but YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If rewind and replay matter, consider ending and restarting planned sessions before that threshold and recording locally at the same time. Shorter sessions do not guarantee against interruptions or other platform issues.
Clear music rights before going live
The channel operator is responsible for having the rights needed for the broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms require necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance rights), and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and confirm your own licenses cover the uses and territories relevant to your channel.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if the matched content continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Archived streams may also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast.
- Confirm that rights cover both the sound recording and the composition, as applicable.
- Check that the license covers livestream use, territories, and any archive or replay you intend to offer.
- If you have a license and still receive a live interruption, contact the relevant rights owner about allowlisting; do not assume that possession of a license automatically changes Content ID handling.
Platform documentation cannot determine whether a particular channel’s license is sufficient or establish local legal obligations. Resolve those questions with the relevant rights holders or qualified counsel before broadcasting.
