How to Create a 24/7 YouTube Lo-Fi Radio Channel With an Animated Pixel Art Scene

Build an original pixel-art scene, loop it with cleared music in OBS, connect to YouTube Live, and prepare for copyright checks, long-run failures and replay limits.

To run a 24/7 YouTube lo-fi radio channel, make an original animated pixel-art scene, use music you have permission to livestream, and send both through an encoder such as OBS to a YouTube Live broadcast. OBS can loop local media, but a computer-based setup depends on your computer, power and internet connection staying available. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and its automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours—not a single continuous 24-hour broadcast.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled and has no live-streaming restrictions. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16, and a channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check the current YouTube live-stream eligibility guidance.
  • An original animated pixel-art scene and audio files in formats supported by your encoder.
  • Rights that cover every piece of music and other third-party material in the live stream, including recordings and compositions. Check whether the license also covers territories, archives and rights-management requirements.
  • An encoder, such as OBS, a stable internet connection with sufficient upload capacity, and access to YouTube Live Control Room.

YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility for necessary rights on the person providing the content. For a channel intended to run continuously, prepare the artwork and playlist before launching and decide how you will respond if the source, connection or stream stops.

How do I loop a pixel art video on a YouTube livestream?

1. Make a seamless, original scene

Build an animation that can repeat without an obvious jump: check the first and last frames, moving elements and any lighting or weather effects. Keep the scene original or confirm that you have permission for every asset you use, including artwork, fonts and overlays. OBS documents supported media formats, but does not prescribe a pixel-art resolution or frame rate; choose export settings that suit your project and encoder.

2. Add the animated file in OBS

  1. Open OBS and create a scene for the radio broadcast.
  2. In the scene’s Sources panel, add a Media Source and select your local animation file.
  3. Enable Loop in the Media Source properties so the file starts again after playback ends.
  4. Add the music source or sources you have cleared for livestream use. Arrange the scene and any title or status overlays, then check that OBS is sending the intended audio.
  5. Play the scene locally long enough to check the loop transition, audio level and audio transitions. OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM as supported video formats for Media Source; audio formats include MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

If you use separate video and audio files, check that they stay synchronized and that neither source stops when its file reaches the end. A looping picture with silent or unintended audio is still a failed broadcast.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule a broadcast.
  2. Open the encoder setup details and copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  3. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in the scene, share it publicly or include it in a screenshot. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
  4. Start sending the stream from OBS and wait for YouTube’s preview. Check the picture and audio there before starting the broadcast or announcing that it is live. YouTube’s live-stream tips explain its preview and preparation guidance.

For a scheduled channel, confirm that the broadcast settings and watch page are correct before the first public launch. Keep a separate, safe record of the stream configuration, but do not store or expose the stream key where viewers can find it.

Set encoder quality and test the broadcast

Use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for supported codecs and recommended settings. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval. Choose an upload bitrate your connection can sustain; test at the intended resolution and quality rather than assuming that a speed test alone proves a 24-hour connection will remain stable.

  • Test a representative segment with the same kind of movement and audio as the planned stream.
  • Check the YouTube preview for picture, sound and access to the watch page.
  • Watch OBS for dropped frames and confirm the media source continues to play and loop.
  • Check the stream on the devices and connections your audience is likely to use.
  • Monitor stream health and audio and video quality while live; YouTube recommends ongoing monitoring, not just a pre-launch check.

These checks reduce avoidable setup errors; they cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation. A local encoder can stop if the computer, power, internet connection, source files or operator attention fail.

What music can I use in a 24/7 lo-fi livestream?

Use music only when your permission or license covers the actual live-stream use. Confirm the rights for both the sound recording and the composition, and check any limits on territory, duration, archiving or monetization. Keep the license and permission records accessible.

YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning; continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. If a music owner uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your channel before launch. A license by itself may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.

Do not assume that a track available through YouTube Creator Music is licensed for a live radio stream: YouTube’s usage terms limit its licensed and revenue-sharing tracks to long-form videos, not live streams or Shorts. Check the terms for the particular music source and rights holder.

Plan for long broadcasts and replays

YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one continuous broadcast lasting 24 hours or more will produce a complete replay. If preserving the programming matters, plan a separate recording or archive workflow and confirm its storage, rights and operational requirements before going live.

For a locally run setup, someone or something must be able to respond to a stalled source, encoder, computer or connection. Test your restart procedure, keep source files available, and decide how to communicate interruptions. YouTube’s technical and eligibility policies can change, so check its current guidance before launch.

Make the channel’s originality clear

A looping animation or playlist is not automatically eligible for monetization. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy update describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content” and says it is ineligible for monetization. Its reused-content review is channel-wide and separate from copyright review. Make your authorship and meaningful original production evident across the channel, but do not treat that as a guarantee of approval. Live-stream ads and fan-funding features have their own eligibility and configuration conditions for channels in the Partner Program.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause What to check
YouTube does not show an incoming stream The broadcast is not receiving the encoder feed, or its connection details are incorrect. Confirm the broadcast is created, OBS is sending to the correct server URL, and the stream key matches. Keep the key private; replace it if exposed.
Picture loops but the music stops The audio file or source is not configured to repeat, or the wrong audio source is being sent. Check the audio source’s playback and loop settings, OBS audio meters and the YouTube preview.
Playback stutters or drops frames The chosen bitrate may exceed sustainable upload capacity, or the local system or connection may be struggling. Check OBS dropped frames and YouTube stream health; test at a bitrate and resolution your connection can sustain, using YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
The live stream is interrupted after a music match A third-party recording or composition was detected, or the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Review the notice, rights documentation and license scope; contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting before resuming the track.
The replay is missing or incomplete The broadcast exceeded the under-12-hour automatic archive condition, or another archive issue occurred. Do not rely on YouTube to provide a full archive of a continuous 24-hour stream. Use a separate recording or replay plan if a complete archive is required.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the YouTube stream to keep running without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs from the cloud.
  • Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding.
  • Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account.

Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The product is the same on every plan; only the billing period changes. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start the free day.
